Fire Of Unknown Origin is a great album. “Sole Survivor” is a really underrated track.
You ever read the Elric series by Michael Moorcock? Really dark sword-and-sorcery, especially considering when it was published…

Yeah I read a shitload of the Moorcock stuff…all of the Elric saga and Jerry Cornelius and Corum and a bunch of his stuff…mostly in high school but I went back to the Elric series and read them again in early 2000s…
And yep Sole Survivor was one of the tracks that was originally meant for Heavy Metal
…great album all around
Good to see a couple BOC fans. My fave track is probably Shadow of California from Revolution by Night.
Blue Oyster Cult fucking rules!

the new Genghis Tron
a LOT of Butthole Surfers
Jeff Beck - Guitar Shop
Great record with the always awesome Terry Bozzio on the skins…
Yeah I always found that artwork to be brilliant…
I don’t know what the style is called or who the artist is, but that style, especially in California, was so pervasive in the late 80’s. It was almost like Neo-Norman-Rockwell or something. It was kind of tedious in many cases (I think this was where Joe Camel really saw a resurgence too, haha) but really worked brilliantly on this record cover.
Mob Rules (2021 release)
Joe Camel hahaha…old dick and balls face himself…
Mob Rules is an all time classic metal record…

Hey Revco- have you heard the podcast that Steven Wilson and his partner in No-Man, Tim Bowness are doing? It is called The Album Years…basically they pick a year and they both pick some of their favorite albums from that year and discuss them…it is some intelligent, high IQ stuff…they both have a very deep knowledge and understanding of the history of music…they are both very concise and super articulate and the conversation moves rapidly…kind of a music lovers dream to hear these guys discuss music…they both have pretty broad palletes…I think there are like 12 episodes to date…highly recommended…
Guns N Roses - Chinese Democracy
I like it more now than I did the only other time I listened, when it streamed on Myspace in 2008.
Still not GREAT or anything, but not quite as dull as I remembered.
I actually think Chinese Democracy is great and in the long run it will be re-evaluated and viewed differently…I’m also a huge Buckethead and Brain fan so might be biased…I like it more than anything Axl has been involved in including Appetite…I know it isn’t a popular opinion but there it is…
I feel the same way. Chinese Democracy is incredibly underrated. HOWEVER – I do not think it should bear the GNR stamp. It should have been an Axl Rose solo joint, or something with another name. Brains & Buckets, I dunno.
I’ll have to revisit that one.
I rolled my eyes when it first came out and I actually bought a copy about 5 years ago when I found it in a 99 cent bin. I skipped through it and put it back in its case promptly, hahaha. It’s been well over
10 years since its release, so I can probably give it another chance now.
Hey QB…I’ve seen them advertised but no I haven’t sat through any of them yet!
I agree that it should have been labeled as an Axl solo record…under the GnR banner, he could have made the greatest masterpiece of all time and it was gonna get criticized harshly no matter what…especially after the whole saga of getting made, 13 years and a turnstile of producers and players…in the end a very good album was made that get a unfairly overlooked and imo is greatly undervalued…
