Quite possibly the best Danzig project in 25 years. I shit thee not. I haven’t heard him give this much of a fuck since “4.”
I’ve heard it’s really bad. the chief complaint is that his vocals are buried in the mix. I have to wait til tomorrow (Or maybe today it is after midnight- Guess I’ll head over to amazon and see in a minute) to get my amazon rip of it. The CD and Vinyl won’t be here for another week.
This Danzig thing wears thin in a hurry. It’s basically a novelty record. Can’t imagine listening to it more than once.
I agree, I’m only half way through and it was easy to switch over to the new ministry single. I’m really disappointed with it. I don’t have the same gripes that I was reading about his vocals being buried in the mix but his voice certainly isn’t as full as it usually sounds. Also, I was expecting alternate takes on the Elvis tracks, and while I’m not really familiar with Elvis’ catalog, these tracks are so sparse and thin I can’t imagine that the music is anything but note for note copies of the original. Black Laden Crown is still a far superior record. For as much as this project was hyped it is a bit of a dud so far.
I understand where you’re coming from, but I love it. I think it’s got more heart than “Black Laden Crown,” or anything of equally recent vintage. Stripping everything down to the basics gives him more room to fuck up, and although he often falls flat on his face (“Fever” is pretty boring), the effort is worth almost 90% of the end product. I’m gonna go listen to it again.
Well, it will get more than one spin from me, but yeah, I think it definitely has a shelf life that will end far sooner than Skeletons did. If I never listen to Skeletons again my life will still be complete. You know what I mean? I think that time will come sooner with this Elvis release.
I’ll say it. I may have been a bit quick to judge the Danzig Elvis. It’s really growing on me. each spin I give it it gets better. I’m really digging pocket full of rainbows.
I’m starting to hear the minimalist music has a real quality to it
And Tommy Victor’s guitar is squeal-free! Good album all around.
Yeah that’s twice Danzig has thrown me now. I came on here when I heard devil on HWY 9 panning that track saying that Danzig had just lost it complete with shitty album cover. then I got the CD and it was really good (I still maintain what was released on youtube was a different mix of that track) but yeah, I’m really digging Elvis. and yes Tommy Victor is squeal free, I didn’t know it was possible.
You ever listen to any original Elvis? He was actually pretty good. Even the campy stuff has its moments. You can tell, if you come at it with the bullshit of Graceland and dying on the toilet removed, why he was considered one of the best acts of all time.
Elvis was a hero to most
But he never meant shit to me you see
Straight up racist that sucker was
Simple and plain
Mother fuck him and John Wayne
That was funny when Chuck D later said he really had no proof that Elvis was racist and it just fit right for the song…
Lol what? What did he do
The dude was Bowie before Bowie. A chameleon. Dude could sing any genre blues, rock n roll, country, gospel. Good luck finding someone who could do that again at such a high level.
