What are you listening to right now?

Type-O-Negative - slow,deep and hard

SOW - Sick

I love Danzig IV, it’s actually probably my favorite by him though that opinion might get me strung up by my neck in some parts.

IV always holds the 3rd spot for me but no stringing by me either. to each their own.

OLD - The Musical Dimensions of Sleastak
The Rolling Stones - Aftermath (UK)
Led Zeppelin - III

Led Zeppelin - III

My favorite. I love a rock album that includes a song about the simple pleasures of taking your dog for a walk.

Mary-Jane - Brigit’s Daughter

The Neon Judgement - Blood & Thunder

The Blood of Heroes-s/t
Beatundercontrol-In Dub
Bill Laswell-Invisible Design 2

aerosmith - get your wings
quiet riot - metal health
johnny crash - neighbourhood threat

aerosmith - get your wings

I discovered this album because of Danzig’s cover of “Lord of the Thighs”. I always hated Aerosmith, but this album completely changed my attitude.

I listened to a couple tracks last night and watched some videos.
I wasn’t really impressed musically or anything. Kind of low grade monster mash rock. I certainly didn’t hate it, but it’s not something I need to buy.

I like the cheap horror/camp image and vibe they’ve got and could see how a live show would be a lot of fun. If they were playing somewhere I was at I’d certainly rock out with them.

You might dig an old kooky horror band out of LA from the 80’s and early 90’s called HAUNTED GARAGE (fronted by the legendary Dukey Flyswatter). They were more guitar-driven and punk/metal, but had that goofy horror theme and wild stage thing going.

Kind of a low-budget halfbreed of GWAR and Green Jello or something.

thanks gonna checkem out now

Sounds like a band I know called Mannequin Planet. If I wanted to be nice, I’d call them “shock rock.” If I wanted to be honest, I’d call then mediocre at best, or crap depending on my mood…

Well, yeah, that’s why I was noting that the live setting is kind of integral to a lot of such acts. Take away the fake decapitations, the fog machines, and the booze and drugs and you’re kind of stuck with crap.

The ones that truly transcend that . . . . well, they’ve mostly already done so. Alice Cooper, GWAR, etc. . .

More recently I’d put Ghost in that camp - you don’t have to know that they dress like satanic cultists to enjoy the band (but it doesn’t hurt). Apart from the costumes, their show is very straightforward, though.

I don’t give a shit what anyone says,I fucking love Ghost…

I think they’re great.
I honestly don’t understand why they catch so much flack. They’re really one of the VERY few new metal acts that actually sound fresh and original to me. And their schtick is really great. It’s done in such a way that there’s a weird dark humor to it but not in a terribly cheesy goofball way. While they do seem grounded and don’t take “themselves” overly seriously, they do take their ART very seriously, and that only makes for a wonderful experience as far as I’m concerned.
