[reply]Metallica - Freeze Em All

Live bootleg?[/reply]

Yeah, if you consider an mp3 download from Metallica’s official site to be a “bootleg.” It was free, and it’s actually not bad. A short set recorded in Antarctica, there’s nary a post-Black Album song to be found. I recommend it. I also recommend Preparation H, if you have hemmorhoids. (I don’t know if you have hemmorhoids, I just thought I’d throw that in there. It’s Sunday night.)

Evil Blizzard - everybody come to church cd

There was some post in this thread with funny turkish heavy metal band but I can’t find it and don’t remember the bandname. Does anybody remember it?

You could always browse through [url http://www.metal-archives.com/lists/TR]Metal Archives’ list of Turkish bands and do a process of elimination thing; although it might take some time…there are a full 470 bands to choose from…

Lovin’ the dirt-cheap used CD prices (wish I could say the same for the $35 vinyls) at my local music mart. Latest trip there yielded:

  • the John Carpenter ‘lost themes’ remix album
  • Rhys Chatham ‘An Angel Moves Too Fast To See’
  • Muslimgauze ‘Veiled Sisters’

also spinning lots of Throbbing Gristle ‘2nd Annual Report’ and the surprisingly good live re-make of it; have been reading J.G. Ballard’s complete run of short stories and both of those are ideal background music.

I love when good music complements whatever I’m reading. Right now I’m plowing through Stephen King’s “Dark Tower” series for the second time and grooving on The Cult and Earth as effective background music. (Ennio Morricone would be better, but I get sick of him after a couple of songs.)

Been getting into a lot of country lately. Tons of George Jones, Whitey Morgan, Waylon Jennings spinning 'round these parts.

You can’t beat a bit of classic country music. Some of the best guitar playing i’ve ever heard was in country music. I love that chicken pickin’ style.

Waylon is rad! George Jones too! I’m not familiar with Whitey Morgan. I’ll have to look him up. I love Johnny Cash, Kenny Rogers, Dolly Parton, Willie Nelson, David Allen Coe, ALL of the Hank Williamses . . .

Love Waylon Jennings, Waylon was my nickname within a group of friends. We all chose names from the Highwaymen supergroup.

Veiled Sisters is amazing, probably my favorite Muslimgauze.

2nd Annual and 32 Annual are both good too and perfect Ballard listening accompaniment. Have you read the 33 1/3 book on Jazz Funk Greats? I really enjoyed that book and I read it while listening to Jazz Funk over and over until it damaged my brain.

My np is Cluster “Soweiso” such nice pastoral electronics. I’m big in into Cluster but this is probably my favorite by them.

Yes, it’s up there for me with the percussive tour de force of “Hand of Fatima”: not recommended listening for people who get irritated by repetition of any kind, but excellent if you believe a little bit of trancing out / self-hypnosis can take you on a journey.

I have read Daniels’ book - really well done with some memorable images (particularly the opening bit about the pink sludge of the rendering plant, and how that forever after summed up the ‘industrial decay’ ethos for him). It’s a shame that recent album he did in which he attempts to steer black metal away from its intolerant roots was so awkward; because his is one of the best "33 1/3"s I’ve read…until of course T4L gets his Psalm 69 book published :stuck_out_tongue:

A couple of country songs I keep coming back to:

Johnny Cash “The Junkie and the Juicehead Minus Me”: has to be one of the best-written lyric sheets ever to deal with shattered dreams, and that sudden realization that one isn’t as hot shit as they thought they were.

Willie Nelson “Blue Eyes Cryin’ In The Rain” from Red Headed Stranger: the gold standard for a tear-jerker ballad. Sincere, stripped-down, and orders of magnitude more effective than any ‘country-politan’ crap of the day.

My favorite Willie song is “Angel Flying to Close The Ground”. When he plucks those bottom bass notes it just punches me right in the sack.

Baron Rojo - Metalmorphosis
Marduk - Those Of The Unlight
Ministry - Twelve Inch Singles (Disc 2)
Primus - Miscellaneous Debris
Emperor - Emperor/Wrath Of The Tyrant

And a lot of Mayhem!

Whitey Morgan and the 78’s are a newer band i think, but they have a outlaw country sound and it’s old school as shit i tells ya.

Highly recommend Whitey

I haven’t really been listening to much of anything other than DANZIG and ALICE COOPER lately.

This last week “Raise Your Fist and Yell” (Alice) and Danzig IV have been getting a lot of play.

I tried listening to that PROBOT album this morning – the one that Dave Grohl made with like 12 guest vocalists. There are a couple tracks that sound really great still (Cronos’ “Centuries of Sin” and Lemmy’s “Shake Your Blood”, as prime example), but most of it just sounds . . . I don’t know, I guess like Dave Grohl made a metal album and asked a bunch of guys to sing on it. The Wino track “Emerald Law” has such a badass rolling bass-heavy intro, but it kind of falls flat even.

Anyway . . . back to Alice and Danzig.

I am going to try and find my Iron Maiden “Book of Souls” and get up to speed with the new tracks before April so I can be ready to sing along with Bruce. Other than that, yeah, I don’t really care to listen to anything else.

I love Danzig IV, it’s actually probably my favorite by him though that opinion might get me strung up by my neck in some parts.

Not by me.
I love it. It’s always a contender for top spot, along with II and III. Danzig I always has the 4th place locked down solid.
