Yeah,I did as well…and then saw them on that tour…they were on top of their game…

I think WCD was the album that got me into heavy/vaguely Goth-industrial music, and kickstarted my record/CD collecting habit. It’s a safe bet that were it not for that disc, I wouldn’t be posting here, and would be content listening to CCR and the Eagles for the rest of my life. (Not that that’s a bad thing.)

Tunes this week so far:

Joe Frawley - A Week of Fevers
Z-Ro - Melting the Crown
Slint - Spiderland remaster
Acacia Strain - Wormwood
Veil of Maya - Matriarch

KMFDM - What Do You Know Deutschland?

KMFDM - What Do You Know Deutschland?

I like that album a lot. I think it may have been my second or third KMFDM disc and it struck me as being much more different and genuinely creepier than the rest of their catalogue. Stuff like “Seig Seig” and “The Unrestrained Use of Excessive Force” is really jarring and menacing, especially alongside the goofier, clubbier tracks like “Zip” and “Itchy Bitchy.”

Man, old KMFDM is so cool. Everything 84-89 is so much fun.

I’m revisiting Don’t Blow Your Top now - that’s when they actually started sounding like KMFDM. What I like about those early records though, is they didn’t seem constrained by any specific style. They weren’t pumping out carbon copies, like they started doing in the mid '90s.

DBYT is creeping on me more and more. I’ve always liked it, but now I might REALLY like it. The title track is one of my favorite songs prolly of all time, but the “fuck it, let’s go NUTS with tape edits” vibe of the whole album is pretty insane. I have plans to cover DBYT as well as “What A Race.”

My favorite KMFDM is prolly UAIOE. I don’t care if the record is half material from WDYKD and half thefts from other bands. It’s super funky and sounds like nothing else on this planet. (FUN FACT: UAIOE at super high volume successfully broke two vases and a framed photo of my dad and his girlfriend.)

I should prolly listen to more KMFDM after I quit geeking out about cool things I’m gonna see in a couple months.

Playing this morning:

various power electronics stuff, but most notably Prurient
LiG - Chicks & Speed
FLA - Corroded Disorder
Rorschach Test - Unclean

SUPER-QUICK EDIT: I just remembered that my buddy found a Juke Joint Jezebel single in a Bookmans in Tucson. He bought it for me cuz it was like three bucks, tops. I open it up to rip and inside is a ticket stub from a KMFDM show in 1997. Hot damn.

1997 was the tour where Watts played with KMFDM and also opened as Pig, right?
I wore a leather jacket to the show 'cause I wanted to look like a badass. Turned out to be one of the big bonehead decisions of my life.

I saw them on one of their tours and Reiflin was playing bass…I have no idea what year that was…it’s all blending together at this point…

Yeah. My buddy found this with the Sin Sex and Salvation EP, which he also got me. I’m pretty sure they were from the same previous owner.

I’m currently still hype on LiG, but I’ve been big into Psykosonik lately. I found a used copy of Unlearn and bought it on a whim, and I’m pissed off that people like Filter and God Lives Underwater blew up and they didn’t, because Psykosonik did everything mid to late '90s lite-industrial rock did better.

PIG opened the east coast portion, while Rammstein opened the west coast.

I believe that would be 2002 and you’re lucky! They actually threw some PIG songs into the set on that tour.

Anyway, nice to see 80’s KMFDM getting some love. 84-86 and Extra Vol. 1 are must haves if you’re into that era. I almost bought Xtort with the last of my Amazon gift card.
