This was discussed in some detail a while back but at the time I ignored it and thought you were all jive talkin’ monkeys for mentioning at the time, however…
I decided to give that Kanye West Yeezus a go. Bought it for $9.00 over the weekend. And let me say…
BEST. DECISION. EVER.
Absolutely love it. Which is really a big deal for me as I just do not “get” hip hop - PERIOD.
But 'm totally digging the hell out off this thing. The cold, clinical industrial feel of the music mixed with the off kilter rapping of Kanye works like a charm for me. Reminds me of those Larry Clark films like Kids or Bully for some reason. can readily picture those kids, aimlessly walking the streets or driving in their cars and listening to this shit while they cruise for trouble. It has that “dark” underbelly of society feel to it.
I have listened to bits and pieces of West’s other albums and while 'm not really sure that I’ll be investing in them any time soon, I can honestly say this has been the find of the year so far for me.
Who would’ve thought?!?!
Me listening to Kanye West. But there you go.
9/10
I completely agree. I think it’s a great album. And I doubt anyone who’d give me shit about it has actually listened to the entire thing.
808’s and Heatbreak is awesome too. My Dark Twisted Fantasy has it’s moments (and when it does they’re awesome) but it just feels way too long.
This just came out via a Light In The Attic Records remastered reissue and it’s great! 60s gospel versions of Bob Dylan classics like Lay Lady Lay, All Along The Watch Tower, The Times They Are A Changing etc etc…features Gloria Jones of Tainted Love fame.
So, this new Triptykon album is truly mindblowing. i have already gone through it twice. a few of the songs, ‘Aurorae’ and ‘In The Sleep Of Death’ in particular almost broke me down.
the first album was bitter and hateful, and it was fitting for the title and for the emotions going in, but this one has a decidedly less sinister and more morose sound. it is darker, colder, more bleak.
i just cant get enough of the tones and the patterns on this one. im about to launch into it again. anyone on this forum who likes turgid, grim, and yet somehow triumphant extreme music needs to pick this one up.
VERY under-rated last album from The Floyd. I rate this one much higher than The Wall or even Wish You Were Here.
.
High Hopes is such a great song, i love Gilmour’s slide guitar on that towards the end of the song. I rate The Wall higher than any of their other stuff though, especially the stuff with Syd Barrett, which i really don’t like. Hippy bollocks. [:)]
Hard-core Floyd fans don’t rate The Wall…I think it’s great and definitely their most rockin record.
I’ve been binging on Melvins The Maggot…I hadn’t heard it for a few years. It’s absolutely their most ball tearing skull crushing Punk Rock/Heavy Metal opus. The Fleetwood Mac cover is glorious and the bass intro to Manky is brilliant…ESPECIALLY on a great set of speakers. And let us not forget Amazon Part 3 which just totally drills you into submission with one of my all-time favourite Buzzo riffs.

Yeah, they probably think there’s too much Waters on The Wall. I think the album and the film are absolute works of art, absolutely love them. I do like some of their other stuff as well (a lot), but The Wall is just total insanity, it captures Waters’ life, his regrets over his father’s death, the rock lifestyle, mental breakdown and all stuff that perfectly.
Yep…when I was 14 I thought I didn’t really need any other records after immersing myself in a The Wall. The film had a big impact on me too…it made me miss my childhood for some reason and get real nostalgic.
There is DEFINITELY way too much Waters on The Wall. I have listened to that album twice in my life (I own a copy as part of a box set). That was 20 years ago. Haven’t listened to it again since.
Thinking about buying The Division Bell today on Rekkid Store Day. I really dug Gilmour’s last solo album too.
