What the fuck. . ?
What the fuck what???
WTF Kanye West.
Surely you jest.
(I did not mean to rhyme)
No.
This year I have decided to embrace the new…
WTF Kanye West.

I’ll never get the Kanye thing either…I’ve tried but it’s just not for me…his voice bugs the shit out of me…and don’t get me started on the horrible inclusion of loads of repugnant auto-tune…blech…do not want…
I like Kanye…his music is hit & miss with me but at least he’s putting out against the grain records as far as mainstream Rap/R’n’B goes.
Also the other thing he’s got going for him is he’s mad as a cut snake. Whether or not he actually knows it he’s quite a funny personality when interviewed. The other night we caught the Stones Throw Records documentary film Our Vinyl Weighs A Ton…in it Kanye talks about the late & all-time legendary iconic producer J Dilla…he described J Dilla’s music as listening to great pussy…the whole cinema cracked up.
I really like Kanye. Although I’m not really a big rap fan like Peligro, I will gladly make an exception in this case. Guy is hilarious and the music always fresh and interesting. Seems like he is not afraid to reinvent himself at random. In that way you never really know what you are going to get next.
Yeezus was fantastic and My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy almost (but not quite) as good.

There’s a megaton load of “Rap” that well and truly craps over Kanye’s productions…You guys just don’t bother looking.
I’m just sayin…
Kanye is a cool and crazy cat though which is totally refreshing in the banal & mediocre world of mainstream rap/r’n’b.
Yes. Hip hop is a genre I really need to explore. That’s why I started with the obvious.
Yes. Hip hop is a genre I really need to explore.
It’s totally worth it. It houses some absolutely brilliant recordings that lead down the path of untold other gems from numerous other genres.
I’ve never understood how someone who likes Industrial etc can simply disregard Hip Hop. Hip Hop has much heavier drums and bass lines. It samples the cream of the crop of drum breaks, basslines and if the producer is true to the game he will manipulate these samples into something unique and kick-ass. I can only assume these people are intimidated by emcees who beat their chest and boast about their conquests while forgetting the true art form. I compare these so called emcees to pro wrestling…it’s all bullshit and for show. Schoolly D was a gangster…Pitbull is not. It’s not all about gangster rap…it’s about clever syncopated rhymes, great lyrics, incredible music and turntable/studio mastery…but most importantly…a knowledge of the history of Hip Hop art form is essential from the artist.
And if you don’t emcees…there are a ton of instrumental albums. J Dilla’s Donuts is one of the greatest Hip Hop albums of all time.
But yeah…Peilgro loves Hip Hop…he just didn’t know it for many years! Haha
Do you like Madvillain?

Totally…Madlib is the Lee Perry of Hip Hop. He could produce Vanilla Ice and make him sound friggin awesome.

Listen to this man…quality post…
The Freddie Gibbs record is great. Madlib is in extremely fine style. Freddie is on a straight up gangster tip and had the production been executed by some other cat I’ve gotta be honest I probably would not have been too interested. However…Madlib absolutely shines bright in this one.
I haven’t got that box set you mention. I may have to at the very least buy it, pop it on iTunes and sell it (my go to hustle on music I want that is not on vinyl or that I want on my iPod).
The Stones Throw Records doco film Our Vinyl Weighs A Ton is a must view for Madlib fans…lots of insight into the man and his art.
