Still blasting EL-P’s Cancer 4 Cure and I don’t understand why this album wasn’t way more popular. Also, a few Cass McCombs albums and EMA’s debut - really looking forward to her upcoming album.

i wish i could like these guys more. i REALLY dont like the vocalist’s voice, but i LOVE the music.
as for underground hiphop, have you ever listened to Sage Francis and Brother Ali?[/reply]
I can totally understand why the vocalist would be a turn off for some people and quite honestly the vocals are my least favorite part (which is a shame because the lyrics are pretty decent). The music is really something though. I suppose mixing those vox with such epic and sometimes melancholic music is what makes them great? I don’t know.
Yeah, I’ve heard a bit from both. Nothing that caught my attention though. Any recommendations?

Cancer for Cure fucking rules, dude…we went and saw El-P(with Killer Mike opening) down here at a club with a wicked sound system and he did Cancer for Cure in it’s entirety(and a couple of classics for encore)…it was overwhelmingly great…the sub-bass was so deep I thought I was going to shit my pants…catch him live if you ever get the chance…
If you like C4C you will like the new one he did with Killer Mike as well…
Some great tracks on there, some awful ones too. “My name is Mr Touchwick”… yes. Quite. The good stuff more than makes up for David’s annoying role-playing nonsense though.

I really like Outside…the best of the 90s output for sure…

Yeah, i probably overstated how much i disliked parts of it, the music is really great, i just don’t care for Bowie’s attempts at an arty-farty storyline on the album, it falls flat and makes me chuckle. Did you ever hear the Hallo Spaceboy with Bowie and Pet Shop Boys? I seem to remember it being a pretty good version.

Yeah,I have that single around here somewhere…I can picture the cover of it…I like that mix also…there are a couple of others on there as well…
and I get what you mean about the conceptual angle but still a nice record…
As much as I like Bowie’s Outside, there is certainly a bloated, aggrandizing quality to the album that at times leaves a sour taste in the mouth. Maybe a case of too many yes men? I’m not sure someone like Bowie would handle being taken aside and told: David, as talented as you are, you are not such the genius that everything you touch will instantly turn gold. You need to pull your head out here.
10 minutes could have been cut from that album without so much as blinking an eyelid.
I only have the first two discs because that’s all that’s available commercially for download. If anyone happens to have mp3s of the remix discs, I’d be in your debt…
I think Outside is some of Bowie’s best work, but it does have it’s weird moments. To think it was supposed to be a 5 part concept album, hence the 1 before Outside.
The list is impressive: Slash, Paul Gilbert and Randy Castillo all served their term in this band at one point or another, and their one and only full-length has Castillo on drums and Gilbert on guitar, siding along with Yngwie Malmsteen’s replacement in Steeler, Kurt James. With such a star-studded cast, it seemed hard to fail…and yet, Black Sheep did.

Lots of bands have done that. Release an album and call it “…” - Part 1. Only Part 1 doesn’t sell so good and so Part 2 never materializes. Which makes it all the more awkward. Perhaps they should test the waters first.

I know I’m late but just saw this and you are one lucky son of a bitch. I’d give my left one to see him do that whole album live. “Stay Down” live would be incredible.
And I loved Run the Jewels. Guy has been on a roll. Him and Killer Mike are supposed to be releasing a part 2 this year. If it’s as good as the last one or half as good as Cancer for Cure I’ll… be very happy.
This was discussed in some detail a while back but at the time I ignored it and thought you were all jive talkin’ monkeys for mentioning at the time, however…
I decided to give that Kanye West Yeezus a go. Bought it for $9.00 over the weekend. And let me say…
BEST. DECISION. EVER.
Absolutely love it. Which is really a big deal for me as I just do not “get” hip hop - PERIOD.
But 'm totally digging the hell out off this thing. The cold, clinical industrial feel of the music mixed with the off kilter rapping of Kanye works like a charm for me. Reminds me of those Larry Clark films like Kids or Bully for some reason. can readily picture those kids, aimlessly walking the streets or driving in their cars and listening to this shit while they cruise for trouble. It has that “dark” underbelly of society feel to it.
I have listened to bits and pieces of West’s other albums and while 'm not really sure that I’ll be investing in them any time soon, I can honestly say this has been the find of the year so far for me.
