What are you listening to right now?

[reply]
Eighties > On a Plain.

Simple as that.

Just came home with Stayte’s “Abandon in the Amber.” Looking forward to this bad boy.

Come As You Are, not On a Plain.

FUCK.

Thanks for the clarification.

Either way, though, I’m still right. [:)]

background soundtracks to the flint movies. actually programmed my phone to wake me up in the morning with a piece of that.

God I hope that’s not a lie!

listening: Theory of Ruin (Counter-Culture Nosebleed & Frontline Posterchild)

Right on, Theory of Ruin. Counter-culture Nosebleed is pretty awesome, it’s a shame they got no attention. How’s the other one?

I watched the Ian Curtis movie Control again the other night (great flick), and just got the news on Depeche’s 2009 album and tour, so I’m in a Joy Division/DM mood tonight. Been listening to a lot of the more obscure stuff off of Construction Time Again and A Broken Frame, and of course, cranking the Violator tracks.

1002 - It’s good man. Frontline Posterchild is an EP. another 5 tracks of goodness. I have a 7" as well, pre-Counter that I never see listed anywhere, but came out on Elastic records. Sadly, I don’t have a table up to spin a copy off to mp3 currently. Someday tho

YOU SON OF A BITCH. [laugh]

grmpysmrf, I spun “Abandon in the Amber” a few times, and I must say, it IS a very solid album. I couldn’t help but think that Josh and Clayton simply made a better Orgy (who aren’t terribly bad either). I can definitely hear how they influenced the new RevCo album.

My only real complaint, though, is that none of the individual tracks jump out at me. A single track from this disc would probably be forgettable, but strangely, all of them together make it work. I had that same issue with the latest Paradise Lost album. Excellent as a whole, but an individual track kinda loses something.

That said, this disc is hella fun to paint to. [cool]

Currently spinning a used copy of Pigface’s “Notes From Thee Underground” I picked up the other day. Pisses me off that 75% of this disc is on “Preaching to the Perverted,” but it’s still good.

Some of you who are fans of “Mind”-era Ministry will probably dig it.

Have you seen the ‘Joy Division’ documentary from this year? Its even better than ‘Control’ and arguably the best music documentary ever.

Trailer:

did get a copy of the other joy division movie, and yeah it’s really great. ian curtis dancing is about as creepy as creepy gets. you kinda wait to see if he starts foaming at the mouth or something.

Haven’t seen it yet, but plan to. If it’s better than Control, I can’t wait. I also like 24 Hour Party People, though the second half of the movie really drags…way too much time spent on the friggin’ Happy Mondays (I like Pills 'N Thrills, but c’mon).

The trailer’s on my Control DVD, but thanks for the link.

Nice, didn’t know about that early 7". Gonna track down Frontline Posterchild now. Hey, when I YouTube Theory of Ruin, I see a lot of videos for Nailbomb and Fudge Tunnel, what’s the connection with these bands? Ex-members?

Fudge Tunnel & Nailbomb both have Alex Newport (guitar/vox). Frankly, that you know Theory of Ruin and don’t know Fudge Tunnel floors me. Awesome stuff.

Nailbomb (Newport & Max Calavera [Sepultura/Soulfly]) did one studio lp: Point Blank & one live album titled ‘Proud to commit commercial suicide’ which also had 2 studio outtakes tacked on the one live show.

Fudge Tunnel was Alex’s first group, they have a pretty decent discography with 3 studio albums an odds & sods record & 3 eps + plus a couple of compliation appearances. If you like ToR, you’ll prolly like this.

Alex in between FT and starting ToR mostly did production work, but also spit out at least one release under the name ‘Son Of Crackpipe’. The one disc I have isn’t anything special tho. =/

I discovered ToR by accident. Some guy mentioned them while reviewing a Killing Joke album on Amazon. He hyped them up, so I checked them out, and really liked what I heard. I have heard of Fudge Tunnel before, but never heard their music.
