Wax Trax! Records Retrospectacle: 33 1/3 Year Anniversary

got 2 tix for me and the wife. should be a great time.

I’ll be there… looking forward to the show and meeting some of you bastards in person!

This will be the 4th or 5th reunion of one kind or another that I’ll have been to Metro for in the last 3 years. Folks sure is gettin’ nostalgic lately.

As the old saying goes:
“See you guys on April 15 & 16 at the Wax Trax! Records Retrospectacle: 33 1/3 Year Anniversary in Chicago. I’m looking forward to it.”

Are you flying in from Ireland to see this Mick? Damn homes, that’s dedication!

Whelp… seems like the show (2 day passes and VIP tix) are completely sold out now…

i knew it would. sorry bros, i had a guy refreshing like a mofo this morning… worked out.

goddamn i got stuck doing emergency work. hopefully someone boots it :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

See you guys in Chi!

I wish I could go ( I messed up my foot, so I’ve been & will be out of commission for a while.)…everyone have fun!

Wish I could go too. Had some medical shit, and now I’m having to make up for it (financially). Tempted to say “fuck it” and fly to Chicago though.

I saw this same KMFDM lineup (with Sascha and Ogre) in the late’90s, and I can’t imagine this being better. Saw Front 242 around the same time, and they were really disappointing. TKK hasn’t been worthwhile in ages. So I realized there were only three reasons for me to go - the Fix movie, meeting fellow Prongers, and Barker/Connelly/Van Acker.

But I will miss those three things.

Whelp… seems like the show (2 day passes and VIP tix) are completely sold out now…

Whaaat?! I’m at a bar and can’t check. But dammit, I am planning on going. By myself even.

242’s last truly great tour was the Tyranny tour in '91. I didn’t see the Up Evil/Evil Off tour, and the Re:Boot show was cool, but the songs were too heavily remixed. Saw them again in either 2000 or 2001 at a fetish ball, and it was not very good at all. I just watched the Moments In Budapest DVD recently, which was filmed on the Vintage Tour in 2008/2009. The band re-uses a lot of the old analogue sounds and samples from the early days, and the set list was very good (Commando Mix - awesome). The visual show was very modern and high-tech, but it was a huge step forward from the late '90s shows. I’m thinking their performance at Retrospectacle is not going to disappoint.

TKK were horrible and plagued with technical problems when they opened for Ministry (was that the Houses tour or RGB…), so hopefully they’re better this time around. Haven’t seen KMFDM since '94, but I enjoyed them then and in '90 opening the Mind tour.

Just watched YGDSOB again last night, and cannot wait to see 3/5 from that era playing together again. I know Rieflin’s been hanging around Robyn Hitchcock and Peter Buck these days, but Paul needs to get him on the horn and invite him out to bang the triggers one last time.

I saw 242 on the Up Evil era as they got on the Lollapalooza tour (I saw the L.A. stop) which would’ve been 1993, I think.

I blame circumstances partly (that kind of music just doesn’t translate well to a huge outdoor festival in the middle of the day – it’s gotta be dark and in a cramped, smoky club, as far as I’m concerned), but their set was really weak and not at all memorable.

Official statement from Al & Sasha

"A Statement From Al Jourgensen And Sascha Konietzko

This statement is being released in an effort to clarify the many concerns that have been expressed directly to us by our friends, fans, supporters and the media in regards to the Wax Trax! Records “Retrospectacle” being held in Chicago, IL, at the Metro on April 15 and 16, 2011.

We both wish to avoid any misunderstandings, miscommunication and misrepresentations regarding this event. To that effect we formally announce that the bands Ministry, KMFDM and Revolting Cocks will NOT be attending or performing at this event. Al Jourgensen was NEVER asked to participate, and Sascha Konietzko’s (and KMFDM’s) desire to participate and perform was DECLINED by the event organizers.

However, while we are both in no way associated with this event, we want to make it clear that we DO support the good works of the charity involved and honor the memory of Wax Trax! founders Jim Nash and Dannie Flesher.

Sincerely, AL JOURGENSEN, Founder & Leader of Ministry/RevCo (Revolting Cocks) and SASCHA KONIETZKO, Founder & Leader of KMFDM

Additionally please NOTE: The announcement that the film FIX: The Ministry Movie will be screened at the Chicago Music & Film Festival during the same time period as Retrospectacle is pre-mature and potentially false. Neither the proposed film nor the deals surrounding it have been finalized. For all official announcements and updates regarding FIX please refer to the 13th Planet Records Website (www.thirteenthplanet.com) or the Official Ministry Website (www.ministrymusic.org)."

These shall certainly be interesting developments.

Did Al really need to formally announce that Ministry wasn’t playing? What was he gonna do, break out Cold Life and Nature of Love and shock everyone? The only Ministry material on Wax Trax is the stuff he doesn’t play any more, well…unless you count the new ‘heavy’ version of Halloween. Same goes for the Cocks, really. The version of RevCo I’m going to see will be way more authentic than the fraud group he’s been producing the past several years. He has quite visibly distanced himself from his past (songs and musicians alike) over the years, so he doesn’t need to release a statement to clarify or justify anything, as far as I’m concerned. I take comfort in knowing that I won’t be subjected to a set list full of Last Sucker material, Ram Jam covers, and other songs that have no connection to Wax Trax. He’s not the dude in the Ray-Bans on the All Day 12" anymore… His statement is not surprising at all. Too bad, really, about how this has ultimately played out over the years for Ministry.

In all truth, I thought he addressed it all with more tact and dignity than I would have expected.

Sounds like they’re giving a red light for FIX right now…
