Both opening bands played for to long and started to late. The first one was worse than the second, offering some instrumental hippie psych rock crap that was nothing but pointless.
USSA took the stage at around 11:30pm which was more than an our later than I had hoped for. Oh well… I didn’t let it ruin my mood. Despite the low turn out Barker and the rest of the gang seemed to have a very good time, joking around here and there. The live presentation definitly added some momentum to the songs. The myspace tracks didn’t really win me over, I couldn’t make anything of them. On stage though these songs turned into a hell of a noise rock erruption. They played for about an hour including one encore after I told Barker that I didn’t come out here all the way from Bushwick for this to be over so soon. Naturally my statement wasn’t the main reason for them to chop out one more but Barker thought it was funny as Bushwick is like 5 bike minutes away from the club. And it earned me a pad on the shoulder by a true hero of my late late teenage days.

Bottomline: Nothing but awesome
Well crap. Would’ve liked to known you were there, could’ve said hello.
No, there weren’t 20 people. It was probably double that. I actually didn’t mind the first opener, but the second was really bad. Like Drain STH-bad. Great show, and I liked the Foetus cover at the end. Cheap merch, too, so if you see this show (already cheap in itself) you’ll get to see some true talent. And I might add, the guys are extremely gracious to meet as well.
Made Out Of Babies compared to Drain STH!!! Have you lost your mind or what? Are you really so closed-minded music-wise?
I did organize one of their shows here in France 18 months ago.
This band has a lot more in common with Unsane or Jesus Lizard and the last album was produced by Steve Albini.
Do we really have to read such kind of stupidity on this board?
In my defense, I never heard their records. I would definitely give them a chance by doing that, I never ever blow off an opening band simply by their live performance…but I do admit that their set was bad. The poor vocal mixing done by the sound guy didn’t help, either.

Relax.
well, if you think their club europa set was bad you should have seen them a few weeks earlier at the east river amphitheater w/Dalek. THAT was bad. it was almost terrible enough to make me not go see USSA because I didn’t wanna suffer through one of their sets again. with that in mind I actually have to say that made out of babies were only half as bad as I was expecting them to be. that doesn’t necessarily make it a good show but the level of annoyance was kept moderately low, so that’s fine with me. some stuff sounded like Siouxsie others a bit like Neurosis and the majority like a band opening up a big festival at noon for 5 years straight without ever making it anywhere. I can deal with those few good moments and ignore the rest. but the bass player and his overly theatrical poses I can not…
Saw them in Chicago on fruday night. Awesome stage presence. Heavy. The crowd loved it. I would highly recommend people to check them out. I had dinner with the band prior to the show and they’re all top class guys. Paul seemed extremely happy and stress free. He was having a good time and tremendous fun.
Duane was also into it. Let’s hope for a Tomahawk/USSA tour. Tomahawk is missing a bassist
Holy cow what a great fuckin show in Milwaukee! The band was so tight and they had such a great stage presence! The music live is just so hardcore!
The entire band was so approachable and cool - even joking with individuals in the crowd during the show - was a weird punk rock family like atmosphere. They have made Me catgoat and our friend Nick big fans! We bought tshirts and CDs like the good little fans we are.
All instruments and vocals were dead on! The vocalist (an unknown according to myspace) was awesome! He like the rest of the band was soooo into the music! He reminded me of Mike Patton a lot! The whole band was really into it and like anything Paul touches - you can hear him in all the music. I cant describe it - umm its just the Paul Barker sound I guess
