MINISTRY interview
Hard Attack/channel 27, June 28 @ 8 pm ET
If anyone wants to listen, just sign up for a free 3-day trial and check it out. That would be a good time to play a shot game. Take a drink everytime Al mentions or is asked about Bush.
And judging by his recent output rate this new album will be out in over half a year…so we’ll have a derivative speed album that will be relevant for all of a couple of fucking months, before becoming the most pointless load of crap ever…
Shit I really am so bummed that Ministry is going out like this…
Listened to Animositisomina yesterday and found myself thinking ‘what if…’ for about the millionth time, wondering why the fuck Paul had to leave the band and then go on to do absolutely nothing with his skills…
God that album had so much potential. It seemed Ministry were really focused and, most importantly, trying out interesting new things. Al still seems focused, but he just isn’t exploring new ideas anymore.
I think Al is more interested in exploring the bottom of wine bottles than in making a final kick-ass Ministry album… I’m all for Bush-bashing, if the music is up to it [:P]

heh. here’s what al said about paul (from the post on pissarmy):
A two pages one where Al talks in details about his drugs addiction and how he decided to quit. Also a definitive answer about a possible comeback for Barker. Goes something like this:
Al: I never want to hear from THAT guy again. People thought he was Ministry ‘cos I was like Garbo, hiding in the suite, fucked up on smack, so someone had to do the interviews and he took it. He was just a fuckin’ bass player! Spinal Tap had something like two dozens of them!
MH: It was drummers…
Al: What EVER!
seems that al has a hidden big ego problem or something like that. shame it comes down to bitching among people who once were really “into it” (washam, connelly and rieflin, now it’s also al and paul probably).

Could somebody please enlighten me what is so innovative about Animositisomina? To me it just a repeat of what bands like Killing Joke, Mission Of Burma, Chrome etc. were doing decades ago. In comparison, the stuff on RGB and Mole is truly in a style that Ministry has created ie. “industrial” metal. I like Animositisomina as an album but I never considered it to be innovative in any way, actually I always thought it was really ‘retro’
i dont consider animositisomina to be innovative or anything. i consider it a “farewell” album in the ways of “these are the trackstyles we’ve done before and this is what we do best”. after that it’s just thrash metal, alas, pretty uninspiring and boring.
I finally picked up rio and I think its way to slayer like for my tastes. I like houses better than rio. Paul was the 2nd half of ministry and did carry Al through the late nineties. Can barely hear any basslines on rio. That it was funny and ironic the bass player on houses turned out to be a heroine addict.

that’s not exacly true, he was hired for the tour, and by the time he was in the band, bass was done for the most of the houses of the mole album, check out the credits, monte (the kicked out bassist) was playing only on 2 or 3 track or something. the rest of the bass stuff was played by al except wtv which was scaccia on bass.

Man…Al’s really sounding delusional these days.
Funny thing is, up through Animositisomina I always thought Paul was “just a fuckin’ bass player” – it wasn’t until after he left and Ministry started kind of sucking that I realized how much he had to do with the creative aspects of the band’s sound.
YeaH it’s ridiculous for Al Jourgensen to downplay Paul Barker’s role in the band like that…he clearly did so much of the songwriting for Ministry that he was definitely a key member…
Not to mention all the programming he did. And I’m sure he had more overall involvement in The Dark Side of the Spoon album than Al did. All the horn arrangements etc. were all Paul.
MINISTRY’s Al Jourgensen, Paul Raven, Tommy Victor and John Bechdel will invade the Sirius Satellite Radio studios for an exclusive interview with Hard Attack host Mario tonight (Wednesday, June 28) at 8:00 p.m. EST. Hear Al, Tommy, Raven and John go off on everything from cheap wine to the current administration to their latest ass-kickin’ release “Rio Grande Blood”. Hear tracks from both MINISTRY and Al’s other band REVOLTING COCKS, and thrash out to tunes from PRONG, SLIPKNOT, KILLING JOKE, RIGOR MORTIS and an obscure Al side project. Rebroadcasts: Sunday, July 2 at 3 p.m. ET and Thursday, July 6 at 6 p.m. ET.
So any guesses on what the obscure side project will be? Lard, PTP, Acid Horse, etc? Or something we actually haven’t heard before?
I’d also guess Buck Satan. After all these years, maybe we’ll finally hear this country masterpiece!
I’d die for some Lard, but I’m not counting on it. It seems to me that any inspiration in that direction was used on the latest Revco and Ministry discs, though I could be wrong. Another collaboration with Ian from Minor Threat would be welcome, ala Pailhead, but the only punk bone left in Al’s body is busy railing against THE MAN. Drat.
That’s the thing - a new Pailhead release would sound great even today. Shame that an EP and a 12" make up the entire discography. Should’ve been a full album somewhere between '88 and '92. Shoulda woulda coulda.
Funny thing is, up through Animositisomina I always thought Paul was “just a fuckin’ bass player” – it wasn’t until after he left and Ministry started kind of sucking that I realized how much he had to do with the creative aspects of the band’s sound.
I’ll second that! Never knew JUST how much of an influence Barker had over the band. I still like the new stuff. But Hind sight shows us, as it’s been stated, Barker’s Influence is noticably absent.

Pffft! Another genius and insightful post from none another than…
Y’know there are quite a few unsolved crimes out there that could benefit from yr rather intuitive powers of deduction, old Smuggs!
