Trax! Box Q & A

Damn, I was willing to make some kind of trade for the disc if people were gonna get sent new ones…

The photo of the disc was enough. Should be sent out in about a week.

Well, that one track is still two songs playing at the same time, so they should still be sending replacement discs.

This just in from Cleo:

Regarding track 13 on the same disc, “Where Are You At Now” (as opposed to “Where You At Now” from Twitch) is not a mistake and is exactly as it is labeled in the master hard drive we received from Al. It’s another version of Nature Of Love that may have been set to be released at some point under that title, but never was.

Well, that’s a shame. I was really hoping to hear some alternate version of that song from Twitch.

I’ve come to love that song so much more because it is the very link itself between Twitch-era Ministry and the “hard and fast” LORAH-era Ministry, as evidenced by the live performances they did of it on the Twitch tour where it was sped up and turned into a blistering, screaming storm of a song that left the audience stunned. Kinda wish Al had recorded a fast studio version to match the live one.

Mine arrived today. First impression… the packaging is apt, being neither too creepy nor too trashy. Fit and finish are great.

I rushed immediately to the live Detroit tracks. I knew that Cleo would either paid close attention or just mastered what they were given. My experience is that the Detroit recordings floating around are sharp in pitch, and therefore too fast tempo-wise. Sadly, this is also the case with the Trax! Box Set.

They do sound fuller than the Detroit stuff in my archive so I’ll likely dump then in an editor and pitch/tempo correct them.

Haven’t had time to listen to much else. Can’t wait to compare my copy of the On Broadway show with the vinyl. That’s next.

They certainly sound better than the bootlegs that have been floating around. Al introduces “What Is The Reason” as being a new one. That little snippet is definitely missing from the bootleg version, so these came form a different source, not sure if they came directly from Al or not.

The On Broadway show has someone introducing the band (which is missing from the bootleg version) and it sounds much cleaner than the bootleg version.

Overall, I’m very pleased with the set. It seems Cleo talked to the right people and got the best possible quality out of the unreleased stuff.

The book also mentions the different set lists for the shows. Hopefully that’s a hint of things to come. I’m really hoping they release the 82 Chicago show at the very least. It would be a sin to not release those 5 unique songs.

WXRT DJ introduced the show. XRT was the sponsor and the show aired at a later date. Most of the boots out there are copies of cassettes recorded from the FM broadcast.

I’ve heard a rip of the master and the intro is included.

I am noticing a couple of strange fade-ins on YGDSOB, at the start of In The Neck and TV Mind. I can barely hear Chris say “Shut the fuck up” and the first drum beat is missing. Chris’ “TV Mind” yell also fades in at the start. Did they maybe trim some audio to fit Stainless Steel Providers at the end? The length of the CD is 1:18:09.

Quite possibly. I know the Ryko re-issue was two discs. I’ve never owned the album prior to getting Trax! Box, so hopefully someone else here can answer that for you.

never knew he pumped chris in the ass

wonder if thats legit tho? would he really sign ws?

[reply]self-annoyed sounds like a steadier destruction… you can hear al’s ‘yelled’ vocals in its nascent stages. they made the right call ditching it, though, but it could have easily worked as a PTP song.

Agree completely. I feel also, the female backing vox are not quite totally in synch and the track is a bit too repetitive for its own good. Still so cool to hear something like this unearthed.[/reply]

as opposed to the 4 or 5 other repetitive songs on that album? lol. Love this track, I think the album would’ve benefited from having this on there (assuming this is a lorah reject).

Self Annoyed is the highlight of the set, if you ask me.
It’s running through my head right now.

Just listened to this…sounds great…that is Ogre on vox, correct? Sorry if it’s been mentioned previously in the thread, didn’t have time to read all of it…

Nah, it’s Al.

The other golden nugget in the set IMO is The Game Is Over.

I wonder if there are more Ministry songs from 1987.

Wow ok…Sounds like Ogre big time…great track…

I’m enjoying “Same Old Scene”. Great interpretation of the Roxy Music track. Trying to figure out (just based on listening) who also contributed:

Al - vocals, keyboards, synths, guitar
Brad - bass (really stands out on this track)
Shay - backing vocals (at least I think I hear female backing vocals)
Drums - could have been Stevo, but it sounds programmed (perhaps the same drum machine used later for Halloween - sounds very similar)

Never thought this would see the light of day. Awesome!

I’m gonna stay in this evening and get out the box and read the book and listen to the tunes. Should be fun. I’ll be spinning them on my “music nerd” NAD cd player.

I have to admit, I only bought the early trax CD when they re-released that stuff a while back. honestly, I wasn’t motivated to get it really, nor the others. Not sure why. I think I may even have the mono version (how do you tell that again?).

Anyway, there’s this whole batch of new minstry tunes that i am digesting. I’m hoping te book will inform me of all the ins and outs of them.

My “Ministry and side projects time” began when I got Land of Rape and Honey, which I bought before Mind was released. Then i happened upon the stainless steel CD single, and it all began. So I discovered and have a lot of these tunes from buying them when they were released.

I may hit you guys up for info after i go through the box.

This is fun!
