I’ll take new Megadeth over new metallica any day.
It’s kind of a draw between old megadeth and old metallica

Neither new Medadeth nor new Metallica is listenable. I don’t think either band has put up out anything worth listening to in 25 years. That being said, having seen both bands quite a few times, Metallica > Megadeth live.[/reply]
Meh, to each his own, sir.

Salo (or 120 Days in Sodom) is revolting, and beautiful in its depravity… because it is making a point. not one so crass and simple as ‘watch out!’, or ‘dont just do what you are told’.
For days on end that movie haunted me. every where I would look in modern society I would see some resemblance to that movie. There’s so fucking much to it it overloads your brain.

Audition is the shit though. Not as disturbing as the other movies here, but also directed by Miike and one of my favorite movies still.
i absolutely hate Audition.
im a huge horror-hound, and i even write for a site as a reviewer. im always watching ‘dark’ films, and i can stomach almost anything. that said, i have no interest in films that aim to be debasing strictly to be debasing. movies that attempt to disgust and distress for no reason other than being the most disgusting they can be is just so… boring.
Audition, A Serbian Film, and a whole slew of other similarly minded films arent violent or visceral for any reason other than to win some sort of jerk-off contest.

oh i hate the while torture porn thing but i didn’ think audition was that bad. i mean there’s some cringy stuff at the end, like with the piano wire but it was kept to the last like 15 minutes and i’m more focused at the mindfuck way it’s put together. i think it uses violence minimally compared to the movies where torturing is the while base of the plot.

Agreed on Audition…great film…I never felt it ventured in to the realms of Hostel or those types of films…the violence enhanced the plot rather than being the main purpose of it…
Salo also holds extra interest for me because of the way it’s director was killed…I hear they are doing a movie on his life soon…
I hadnt heard that they were making a movie on his death. Should be decent. I remember seeing a mini biography on him several years back and they play up the whole he died violently and mysteriously angle. I think the gov mjt murdered him over salo. He died like a month after it came out. Anyway should be cool.

Yeah, grmps it going to be directed by Abel Ferrara and Willem Dafoe is going to play Pasolini…looking forward to it…I’ve told the story here before but I actually worked on a Ferrara production back in the 90’s…not one of his better films…the dude is a straight up madman…or at least he was at the time…My fave Ferrara movie is King of NY followed by Ms 45…

Wow, whic of his films did you work on? I love King of New York, great film. Ms 45 was good too. I haven’t watched any of his films he’s made in the past few years though.

Yeah,J…it was a mediocre film called The Blackout with Matthew Modine and Dennis Hopper …shot entirely in Miami…I did some production assistant work on it…I was psyched to see Hopper in action but he was never there on the days I worked…Claudia Schiffer was around though and she was super hot at the time…gorgeous woman, even more so up close…
My best Abel story is when I was in the back of a van/town car/limo type vehicle we were in, with him and some of the crew…in the middle of driving down Washington Ave he announces he wants some blow…he opens the door and just jumps out…nobody even knew what to do…he disappears down a side street…so after aimlessly driving for 20 min or so and wondering what to do he just pops back up on Ocean Dr as we are going by and hops in with an extra large pizza and a nice little 8-ball…true story…the dude was not easy to work with and was a bit unhinged but he sure was entertaining…
Haha, crazy. Great story!! Ferrara definitely seems unhinged at the best of times, and nowhere near the neighbourhood of being like a “normal” person. His performance in Driller Killer made me think that all that ranting and raving might not be too far from what he was like in real life.
I watched The Blackout, it was ok, not his greatest film. I liked the final scene of him swimming out into the ocen at night with U2’s track Miami playing. Did you meet Beatrice Dalle when you worked on the movie? I always thought she was fantastic, but it sounds like she has plenty of problems of her own…

Yeah his performance in Driller killer isn’t far off from what he is like in real life haha…yet,he is also very focused and intense when it comes to his films…not a very pleasant man, though…Beatrice Dalle wasn’t very pleasant either…she was a bit of a cunt quite frankly…but that was just the impression I got from the limited time I was in contact with her…could of just been a bad few days…
After i wrote that i just read a bit about her, she sounds like a fucking nutcase.
Dalle was arrested in 1991 for stealing jewelry in Paris; she received a fine for assaulting a traffic warden in 1998; she was also arrested in Miami in 1999 for cocaine possession. In 2001, while running the catwalk for the fashion designer Marco Coretti’s collection in Rome, she destroyed a haute couture dress worth douzins thousands euros.
In January, 2005, while making a film about prison life in Brest, Dalle met Guenaël Meziani, who was serving a 12-year prison sentence for assaulting and raping his ex-girlfriend. She married him after 24 one-hour visits with him, and spoke on his behalf at hearings for his early release. According to the newspaper Le Parisien, in May, 2009 just weeks after he was given a conditional release for good behavior, police were called to her flat in the Marais district of Paris because of a violent dispute in which Meziani allegedly threatened to kill her.
Have you worked on any other good movies, or with any other interesting characters? Are you still in that line of work?
Wow,i knew about her Miami arrest but I didn’t know about all that other shit…sheesh…
Definitely met many interesting characters on sets over the years…as for interesting movies, not as much…in the late 90’s I worked for a production company doing lots of stage set-up,production assistant,audio/video stuff etc…so we did The Blackout, and horrible film called the Pest with John Leguizamo and I worked on some stage sets for a film called Blood and Wine w/Jack Nicholson and Steven Dorff(Dorff was a prick, never even got close to Jack)…I’ve done loads of Spanish-Language films and some tv shows(most were cancelled or never made it off the ground)…
I was a part owner of a production company for many years also and we did various local stuff, everything from hip-hop dvd’s with Quincy Jones’ son to local concerts/commercials/tv shows to reality tv shows,(which I’m ashamed to admit since I consider them the scourge of society)…I still am in the industry,(though I no longer own my own company)… although these days I do mostly, live audio mixing while holding a boom mic and a good deal of post-production work…never really made it to top level productions but fuck it,it pays the bills…
Excellent, that sounds like a great line of work to be in, good for you! Certainly beats talking to asshole customers all day on a phone, hahaha. I remember that Leguizamo film, purely by reputation, it was supposed to be horribly bad, haha. Blood and Wine was a good film though, i liked it. I’m not surprised Dorff was a prick, he seemed to have an air of superiority about him in any interview i’ve seen.
Cool, sounds like you’ve had an interesting career to say the least!
Yeah, thanks man…it has it’s up’s and it’s down’s like any career I guess…I’ve definitely learned a great deal over the years…seen some sides to the industry I wish I’d never seen but I’m still a huge film fan…I haven’t let some of the nastier side demystify my love of the art form…tv is a whole other thing, though haha…and yeah Dorff definitely thinks he is better than you heh…
What asshole customers do you talk to on the phone,if you don’t mind me asking?..I’ve heard you make reference to that in the past but don’t know what you do…
Well, i’m unemployed now because i quit my last job, i worked in a bank’s credit card service department. One of my first calls was an old man ranting and raving for 45 minutes about a 1 penny interest charge on his credit card bill. He screamed at me for 45 minutes straight over a fucking penny.
I’ve worked in customer service for;
a phone company - “I never called these sex lines! Are you trying to say i’m a pervert? How dare you, i demand these calls to be removed from my bill!” “Ok sir, do you lve with anyone else who might have called them?” “Well, i have a 16 year old son, but he would NEVER call a sex line!”
a DIY company, who were terrible, deliveries never came on time, people had always removed their kitchens and bathrooms in anticipation of the new one arriving for installation. “I’ve got no way of cooking for mt family! I can’t get washed, i can’t use the toilet because YOU said it’d be delivered and i’ve torn the old ones out!”
a TV company that was just starting out and had serious tech problems, as well as dumbass customers who didn’t know how to use it "I never ordered the porn channels! What do you mean “did anyone else in our house order it?! Are you saying my husband is a pervert?!”
I’ve done a lot of that sort of shit, it’s very boring and lots of the customers are entitled pricks who think they can treat you like trash. Sometimes the customers are great and you feel awful because you can’t help them as you should be able to because of red tape. No matter what company i’ve worked for it always comes down to “I never ordered this, i’m not a pervert”, hahaha. The last one, the credit card job, i was talking to a customer who, when i looked at his account, had a refund on his card for a dildo and charges for a load of other kinky stuff. He was ok though, but lots of them are cunts. It just degrades your trust and respect for the general public. I’m never going to do another job like that, it’s depressing as fuck!
There was also a lot of anti-Irish sentiment and general racism from some of the customers - one i always remember was when i had to explain some ludicrous bit of red tape bullshit to a customer (who was an asshole already, making snide comments and thinking he was above dealing with a minion like me) and he went “Huh! That’s a bit Irish innit?”. I got really annoyed and demanded that he explain himself, he didn’t think he was saying anything wrong. You’d get people who were ok, but then started coming out with stuff like “I’m glad i’m not speaking to some fucking Paki again, i hate Pakis, don’t you?”.
Some of the people i worked with were trouble-making, hateful bastards, the people i worked for were sometimes absolute fuckheads who give me nothing to work with, but expected miracles in return. The clients who we all worked for were fucking dicks for the most part too. All round crap work, you’re lucky to have an interesting job!

This is the reason I now work for a family business - at least I have some control over who I work with.
I worked in the printing industry for a while (not as a printer but as a graphic art guy, preparing jobs for the printing plates) and that was an eye opener let me tell you. The working conditions were almost Dickensian. I worked for the biggest cunt to have ever existed on the face of the earth. If you made a mistake he would THROW the job bag in your direction - which basically meant “fix it now, you piece of shit” - and storm off. Every second word that came out of his mouth (or “it’s” mouth - I don’t even like referring to him as a person) was a variation of “fuck”. He would refer to girls he didn’t like as “sluts” (as in; “that fucking slut completely fucked up another job. I tell you I’m fucking sick of this shit” - really, really loudly, when it wasn’t even the poor girl’s fault!). If he didn’t like you he would tell someone else to tell you to do something when you were standing right next to him (as in; “Tell HIM to fucking do a better job next time!” ). It was disgraceful.
And unfortunately a lot of the employees weren’t much better. There was one guy there I had a problem with. Nothing serious but we just didn’t get along. But he was well liked by the others. So before I knew it nobody in the office was talking to me. I would get the cold shoulder and the room would go quiet whenever I walked in the room. Real high school stuff. Couldn’t wait to get out of there.
Bullying in high school is such an issue these days, but that’s nothing compared to what goes on in the workforce.
I am so depressed that I have to admit to seeing “The Pest”. My buddy and I used to watch movies all the time. He brought that one home one time and I STILL hate him for it. Truly one of the worst movies ever made.
