Top 10 of 2000's (so far)

Actually, considering the next decade starts in 2011, there is still plenty of time left to make a list like this.

No, just a few months. 2009 is the last year of this decade. 2011 will be the second year of the 2010s. So best get list making, there’s not much time.

jupitreas is right. Because you start counting decades with 1, not 0.

Am I missing something? I’ve never come across the categorisation of decades starting with the 1 year as opposed to the 0 year and ending on the 9 year before.

Was 2000 part of the 1990s?

Top of my head, no particular order:

The Cure - Bloodflowers
Editors - The Back Room
Killing Joke - s/t
Simple Minds - Graffiti Soul
Laibach - WAT
Rush - Snakes & Arrows
Peter Gabriel - Up
A Perfect Circle - Mer de Noms
Theory Of Ruin - Counter-Culture Nosebleed
The Damage Manual - s/t

1002

Looks like there’s a double-standard here - someone decided that the first decade AD should have only 9 years but the first century should have 100. I can’t seem to find out who got to make this decision.

I’ll also throw in the Grace Jones album “Hurricane” seeing as Sly & Robbie, Brian Eno, Tricky and Banksy all had a hand in making it kick-ass.

After traveling through Bristol, I was wondering if Grace Jones was making some sort of a comeback. That explains it, especially with the Banksy connection. I may have to check that out…

Yeah check it out as it’s solid stuff…

The last Brian Eno vocal album was also very good.

I forgot about that one.

It was quite good, so is the Byrne/Eno one from this year.

I think maybe he meant that one. And yeah that album was fantastic too…count it!

Santogold’s album…count that one too! Probably best pop album of 2000s.

It is really good, though I’ll put MIA’s “Arular” above it as pop record of the decade. I think it was far more consistent than “Kala”

best Pop album of the decade is Pop Levi’s Never Never Love, hands down. no one has done Pop this good since early Prince or Marc Bolan. seriously.

I prefered Kala myself. Especially the Blaqstarr produced tracks.

I must admit I prefered MIA’s stuff to the Santogold album upon the first few listens…after a year of the Santogold album being out now I much prefer it to the MIA ones. I just find it to be more solid.

As for Pop Levi…I haven’t heard that particular album. I have the Black Magic one and am not that fussed with it really although it does have a few camp numbers on it.

And just to continue my current attack on Peligro (for old times sake and because it’s my point of view)

…but there wasn’t a plethora of great music this decade in my opinion.

Whitehouse - Asceticists 2006
(never heard of it - must suck)

Scott Walker - The Drift
(never heard of it - must suck)

Flaming Lips - Yoshimi Battles The Pink Robots
(lost it a long time ago)

Animal Collective - Merriweather Post Pavillion
(you still buy this?)

Coil - Musick To Play In The Dark 2
(will check out)

Wolf Eyes - Burned Mind
(can’t stand anything by these guys)

Sunn O))) - White 2
(absolute shite - this band is overrated by far)

Nurse With Wound - Salt Marie Celeste
(never heard of it - must suck)

Einsturzende Neubauten - The Jewels
(never could get into them)

Faust/Nurse With Wound - Disconnected
(never heard of it - must suck)

Aaron Dilloway - Rotting Nepal
(never heard of it - must suck)

Iannis Xennakis - Persepolis Remixes
(never heard of it - must suck)

Grails - Doomsdayers Holiday
(never heard of it - must suck)

Secret Chiefs 3 - Book Of Horizons
(never heard of it - must suck)

Troum - AIWS
(never heard of it - must suck)

New Risen Throne - Whispers Of The Approaching Wastefulness
(never heard of it - must suck)

Prurient - Cocaine Death
(never heard of it - must suck)

John Zorn - Film Works XIX: The Rain Horse
(never heard of it - must suck)

Fennesz - Black Sea
(who cares about this guy and his laptop? I can make a better LP than him in one hour and using only one note)

Ulver - Shadows Of The Sun
(never heard of it - must suck)

Jim O’Rourke - I’m Happy And I’m Singing And A 1,2,3,4
(never heard of it - must suck)

Nurse With Wound - Huffin’ Rag Blues
(never heard of it - must suck)

Tool - Lateralus
(glorified shite - lost it after aenima - only 4 good tracks and none of you would agree with me anyways)

PJ Harvey - Stories From The City, Stories From The Sea
(you pussy, LOL)

Ginnungagap - Remeindre
(never heard of it - must suck)

Current 93 - The Inmost Light Trilogy
(never heard of it - must suck)

Now don’t get me wrong. I scour at least 10 different forums and at least 20 different news sites every day to check out what I can to keep abreast of things but none of this is remarkable or even thought of in passing in the places I go. The only thing I found of consequence in this post is that I seem to have missed a Coil album sometime. But I don’t find Coil to be ultra-innovative so while I might check it out I seriously doubt it would even be worth that much time unless it’s LSD 2.

Krowe

You are way off base! the Peligro I now would NEVER admit to not knowing of a band, let alone 20 of 'em.

I don’t really understand your point. I will say that Peligro’s list seems more geared towards experimental than mine would have been — I certainly don’t think that Prurient album for example is anything special and I agree Sunn 0))) is criminally overrated in underground music circles— but some of those are gems and you should check them out.

If you think ‘Lateralus’ or ‘Burned Mind’ suck, even after smoking a joint and listening to them alone in a dark room, then I simply disagree with you on every level. I think both are brilliant records and totally unique and different.

I’m defending myself on all sides here:

So…You ‘scour at least 10 different forums’ and you have NEVER heard of Nurse With Wound or Faust or Scott Walker or Current 93 !!! I’m at a loss to counterattack that revelation. Especially the bit about Neubauten.

It is not something I would brag about. But feel free to.

Um…I’m not sure I really care if you haven’t heard of the bands/artists I mentioned in my list. I’m all the more happy for you. Do you think I come here and talk up the music I like to impress people and make you feel small? Hardly. In fact, I seem to have completely overlooked the point of your post - unless of course it was in jest…in which case I salute you. Two thumbs up.

BTW not liking Sunn O))) is punishable by flogging in some eastern European nations. And don’t even get me started on your Whitehouse ‘diss’.

He’s not serious. He’s just busting Peligro’s balls the way Peligro often busts others. I thought it was kinda funny, really. Got say, in Peligro’s defense though, he’s grown much when it comes to not being so abrasive about the tastes of others. Look at his response to my “This is not music” post in the “I got 'em” thread. We’re seeing a new kindler gentler Peligro. [;)]
