I totally disagree. TIger Woods should apologize, and he should be held to a higher standard. He made a billion dollars (yes a billion) last year because people looked up to him and admired him.
No way! He made a billion dollars cause a corporation needed a face that common folk could associate with their product. That has nothing directly to do with the public, it’s the choice some company made with their advertising $$
He has let down not only his family, but his business partners who paid him gobs of money to promote their business/products.
exactly!! the public was no where in your list so his apologies should extend to his family and his business associates and not to the public.
All he is is an employee. when you fuck up at work you get fired that’s between you and your bosses and the apology you owe your family for getting fired… somebody gets fired from work they don’t owe the customers an apology. (I would argue Gatorade and Nike do though. they chose to use a promiscuous black man to sell their shit? How offensive is that?)
They trusted him to keep his image and reputation clean, which is why he got the endorsements in the first place.
Well, I’m sure it went further than “trust.” I’m sure keeping a clean image was written into his contract and in light of his image now the companies are able to easily terminate the contracts. (which many, if not all, did.)
We shoud not care as a society, but we do. Yes he is a golfer but his status was for being more than a golfer. YOu are a billionaire because you let us look into your life on a daiy basis.
Hardly, unless his life only consists of scripted 20 second commercials… he was paid to “let us see” very specific scripted milliseconds of his life.
He no longer has those contracts that allow us to see those scripted segments and is therefore no longer obligated to show us any bit of his life, scripted or otherwise.
Look at John Daly. He will never has the success Tiger did because he was so unapologetic about his shortcomings. And he was a damn good golfer when he started out.
that’s cause he was a drug addict and an asshole and, while a decent golfer, had no where near the game of Woods or the consistency! with these factors in place no company really wanted to touch him, so consequently he’s not mega rich, does he owe us all an apology for that? I think not.
Its like winning the lotterey and complaining about the taxes.
I don’t see the connection. ??
The scrutinty of your personal life now comes with the terriory.
I think that’s bullshit. Tiger is only public because he’s paid to be public. Now that he’s not being paid he has no further obligation… If he’s gonna stay on Nike’s or Gatorade’s pay roll then yeah he should be doing some damage control issuing apologies or what not but since they dropped him I think he doesn’t owe anyone (Public wise) so much as a glance!
