Spooky Tricks come out on May 6th.
That sample I posted is one of the songs that got cut from the DVD. They got wrapped up in a documentary about the history of Wax Trax, so Retrospectacle got put on the back burner. They’re also being perfectionists with Retro. I guess we’ll have to call it the Chinese Democracy of DVD releases.
I think they’re held up with licensing. It’s one thing to pay a bunch of bands to play a show. It’s another to film that show and sell it as a DVD. That’s a transference of medium and requires separate deals. You’d think they’d have secured permission prior to filming, but sometimes this shit takes a while. And they probably started editing and such assuming everything will fall into place.
I bet the bands are asking for too much in licensing fees, and the producers realize the market is very limited for a release like this. Julia Nash isn’t running some massive record label that can reallocate some funds for this project from another, more successful venture. She’s shilling shirts and stuff, but it’s probably not enough.
And who knows, maybe Al and Sasha are gunking up the works. They were pretty pissed about the event happening in the first place, maybe they’re not signing off at all. You’d think they’d just take the easy money, but we know how spiteful one of them is at least.
Either way, I bet it never sees the light of day. Sadly.
Well here’s a little sample:

I look fwd to hearing it, though am I the only one who hasn’t enjoyed their records since A Crime For All Seasons? Not that even that record was that great, but it wasn’t horrible.
Something since the nineties ended, I find TKK kind of…empty

Yeah, I haven’t really loved one of their albums since Sexplosion, honestly. I don’t think the major label shift did them any favors. The next two albums were ok and Crime was fine, but nothing I’ve heard since wins me love for them. Which is strange because I See Good Spirits, Confessions and Sexplosion were all fucking awesome, and Confessions is one of the peaks of the whole Wax Trax era.
You guys gotta give Death Threat a chance then if you haven’t. That’s probably the best record they’ve done in over a decade.
EDIT: In fact it may have been one of you who recommended it to me. Like I said before, the 2000’s weren’t a great time for them. The Filthiest Show In Town was an ok attempt at updating the Sexplosion sound, but Death Threat just kicked all sorts of ass for me. Really wish they hadn’t neglected that album on the last tour.

I know this may not be new news to many fans, but it is definitely worth noting. Let’s talk about some My Life With The Thrill Kill Kult and their new record and upcoming tour.
We have heard the new Spooky Tricks release and I can tell you first hand that this is awesome! In my humble opinion, this totally has the same TKK energy and campy darkness from their early Wax Trax era. I believe the scheduled tour promises to dig deep into their catalog complete with some fan favorite hidden gems.
If you miss this one, you may just be kicking yourself later.
Snippets don’t really prove anything one way or another.
I’ll reserve judgement until I hear a full song.
Review of Spooky Tricks.

Lots of RevCo comparisons here.
I’ll just base my judgment off the name of the tour.
Gay.
The name of the album/tour isn’t very original, but I have a feeling this is gonna be a damn good show. They’re playing some of the Inferno Xpress material, and other deep cuts as well.
The much anticipated 13th album, “Spooky Tricks” consist of 11 plus one tracks and it’s one hell of a hour of vivid diving into the sound of the 70’s electronic music with a touch of 80’s acid and psychedelia, but with a fresh breath of consistence and sound witch place back this legendary band to the top of the modern dance acts.
Was that review fed through a translator several times? That’s one sentence up there, and it doesn’t make any sense.
That’s pretty bad English now that I’ve taken a second look.
