The With Sympathy re-issue lives again..

[reply]
The singer is Doreen Chanter, IIRC?

Thanks…she’s in the Roger Waters videos released in 84 & 87.[/reply]

I’m assuming because I wasn’t at the session. It sticks in my memory because her resume is pretty impressive.

Going to order mine this week. I agree with Gila that there should be more remixes. A near 80 minute version would be awesome.

Just ordered my copy. [cool]

My copy just showed up…here’s what I think:

The cover looks nicer, not as washed out looking like the 92’ CD.

The overall sound is slightly crispier and “punchier”. Not necessarily an big improvement, but a welcome one.

It’s nice to have some of the 12" material properly mastered and on CD. The unreleased Revenge remix is good and I have no idea why they didn’t include it on the Revenge 12" single.

Overall, well worth the $10. [cool]

The Ministry FB page has been paying alot of attention to this era, possible re-issue coming (hopefully). There is still some unreleased 83 stuff that would make for a cool box set.

What is left from that period that could be released? The WFL remixes would also be nice to have remastered and included.

There’s a few things they could throw into a nice collector’s edition:

-The 2012 remastered album w/Walk In The Park and the 12" Mixes, that came out on CD a while ago.
-The 7" & Dub mixes (which have never been released digitally)
-The song that “A Walk In The Park” is a dub of. I’m pretty sure it was called “Foxhole Trot”.
-She’s Got A Cause-Early version with alternate lyrics
-The Richard Skinner interview
-The Palladium show that has “Hardman” and “So So Life”
-The First Ave show that was pro-filmed (I’m still hopeful that the master tapes exist)
-WXRT taped the 7/2/83 show, they are the same group that recorded the Chicago 5/2/82 show that Cleo later released. So I’m hopeful that the 83 show exists as well.
-They played a high profile event at Comisky Park that year, something has to exist for that.
-I’ve never seen any, but I would guess there’s some video interviews floating around out there.

One can dream I guess.

It seemed like the clip of the 1983 First Avenue show that appeared in “Industrial Accident” was high quality. Perhaps Julia has the master tapes?

So, now that Al has woken up from a 30 year rage coma and seen that a lot of people like this shit AND are willing to pay good money for it… is he going to change his tune and actually start taking credit for it, or will he still say that it was all just the studio thugs putting guns to his head and telling him what to do?
Aside from digging “Revenge” I never cared for “With Sympathy” anyway, and don’t particularly care what happens to it or if Al ever acknowledges/embraces it. I just like the entertainment that it provides us Ministry lifers as it’s been kind of a controversial topic since . . . forever.

If you read the interview from the other day that someone posted elsewhere in here, his opinion seems to have evolved into more of a “They’re OK songs, but it could’ve been much better without label interference.”

The most recent comment from Al is the “the record is fine”, which is nice to hear after all these years.

Well said. When you think about it, Al probably had no way of knowing 35 years ago if his music was resonating with the fans…other than record sales and airplay, and he clearly didn’t care about either. I think he may have enjoyed the live shows more than he lets on, because he has great stage presence and connects with his audience - regardless of the era or phase of Ministry.

Sure he knew and cared. The band opened for quite a few big acts in '82 and '83 and went over really well. And he was quoted as saying that he wanted the band to be as big as Chic and have a number 1 song. So he was very interested in becoming successful and had every reason to believe that it was possible. He was just, dare I say it, intimidated. And being heavily in debt didn’t help.

Thank you for providing the additional insight, and I agree. Perhaps what I was trying to say is that the clips from 1982-1984 on YouTube are clearly resonating with many fans of the original Ministry lineup. I am one of those fans. Whenever Al decided to “change” directions, I wonder if he really believed he could control the narrative, bury the past, and any fans of the original lineup would just vanish as if it never happened.

I’ve clearly spent too much time thinking about it…

I sometimes wonder if Al’s disgust with that era is genuine or some sort of genius marketing to build interest in it. Maybe both lol.

And now there’s a “With Sympathy” tribute band…

No joke - I would love to see this With Sympathy tribute act

Haven’t been able to find any audio or video from these guys. I’m interested in seeing what songs they play and their overall presentation.

There are a few clips on Instagram from a performance they did around Halloween. Looked like a younger group of musicians. Fun to see a new generation catching on.
