YUM

This album probably wasn’t authorized. Angie lurks this board and so she was just as surprised as everyone else but by now she has sent cease and desist letters to the peeps trying to release this album… I will be shocked if it comes out. Would love to know what source they’re remastering this from.

Holy Shit! When Ministry was mentioned in the hi-fi mastering engineer-guru (Steve Hoffman) music forum, most respondents mentioned With Sympathy as being their favorite Ministry release. They’d be appalled at such a poor source for remastering.

In another discussion about a Sex Pistols box set remaster, someone tracked down all the production notes for finding the best source. Without original master tapes, CD-Rs from fans, personal DATs from recording engineers and even cassettes were used.

Yeah, I’m pretty sure that was a joke, man.

It was a joke.

But back in the day when I was buying bootlegs there were plenty worse than that on the market.

The original reissue label (American Beat) was moved to a specialty label called Collector’s Choice, a division of Sony. Once that happened, Sony apparently decided not to release WS, but retained the rights. It’s possible they decided to sell the licensing to another label, if the price was right. This comes from a a friend of an ex-employee at AB.

…and why would Al and Angie bother, if the album - according to Al - is not considered part of his back catalogue? I would think Al is past whatever bitterness came from the Arista experience by now.

$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

…Maybe. He had a lawsuit with Arista because he owed another record…I would say pretty much any and all rights to it were sold or defaulted on by him.

It’s so hard to know what the story is with crap like this and hard also to separate actual information from “Al bein’ Al and talkin’ a bunch of trash which may or may not have any bearing on reality”.

I remember in a recent (meaning in the past 5 years sometime) interview where he was asked about WS and he said that he had the rights to it and had destroyed the masters, etc. etc. Well, if that is true (that he has sole rights to it) then someone is making illegal pressings.

But . . . . did Al REALLY spend a bunch of money, time and energy securing the rights to something so he could destroy it and ensure LESS future income? I don’t know. It sounds pretty counter-intuitive to me, but Al’s never really been known as a business-first sort of fella.

I recently came across With Sympathy on vinyl for $10. picked it up, along with Faith No More’s We Care Alot for only $5 in mint condition!

I found WS on vinyl for $8, listened to it once and gave it to my buddy for his birthday. Wish I’d kept it, he doesn’t even have a record player. Picked up the Work For Love 12" on record store day this year for $10.

But MAN. That Faith No More? JEALOUS.

You’re not too smart are you? Stupid pot head. Just cause somethings up on amazon doesn’t mean its actually going to be for sale. This has happened before. If you’d have read the other posters before m youd’ve known that WS was up for sale before on amazon but was never actually sold cause it got pulled, moron

I don’t know about that one, but I do remember the stink that was made when FIX was up on Amazon 3 YEARS AGO . . . more than 2 years before it even had its first screening, and long before any DVD’s would ever be pressed.

there is a nominal fee to list something on amazon, and you can make your own pre-order for it. so a lot of people see it as an easy way to run a scam. you just list something, say that you are pre-ordering, set up a paypal account or any other easy account, pull in some money, and then by the time you are caught you can all but disappear.

its just a part of the horrors of digital money.

that aside, LP copies of WS are mad cheap on amazon… haha. i think ima have to pick up a copy.

the vinyl sounded great. pick it up if you like the album. wouldn’t mind tracking down other early Ministry vinyl if I come across it.

Get Cold Life, either release. It’s slammin.

BTW, the Psalm 69 live album was on Amazon for probably TEN YEARS before it finally got pulled. Remember, the Ipecac planned release?

Never trust Amazon.
