It’s pretty awesome to have a video of the first time you saw her. Those clothes are something else though. Wow.
Maybe I am not up on the hip terminology of today. I thought “fool” meant cool dude these days. Anyway, that’s the way I meant it. I think I heard Coolio say it in a video a couple of times.
in teh case you aren’t joking…
in North America the term fool = idiot.
Cringe-worthy? It’s 1981, the women are beautifu, the moment you first laid eyes on your future wife is digitally preserved for all eternity 31 years later AND the video kicks off to KW’s “Numbers”. Nothing to apologize for! That’s immeasurably awesome!
P.S. No royalties, alas, but Bob has his health, is still sane of mind, has a lovely, non-controlling wife, has all original toes intact, and isn’t pathetically pierced and tatted. Again, sounds like he’s doing just fine compared to Uncle Al!
You’re very kind. I find women of all era’s to be generally beautiful but the early 80’s club scene here in Chicago was actually very special. The show itself was a bit over the top, even the promoter agrees in retrospect, but there was no shortage of gorgeous women who weren’t shy about showing some flair and individuality. Hope this doesn’t sound like it’s coming from Grandpa Simpson but I actually find modern styles to be a bit blasé…everyone looks the same and stylish clothes are too easily accessable. We used to have to scour boutiques and second hand stores for clothes. These days people just go to Target. And they look it.
Sidenote: I counted at least 2 WaxTrax employees in the full video version. I wouldn’t be surprised if Al had been there that night too since he was dating the promoter’s best friend at the time. This would have been about a month prior to my first rehearsal with the band and 4 months before my first date with Cate.
Exciting times.
That’s awesome to have footage of the day you saw your wife to be for the first time.
Unfortunately I think no one had a camera the afternoon I met mine in bus 65
Got it today. I skipped to the Bonus Tracks.
Track 10 (5:07) - A Walk in the Park. The mix is very clean (Channel separation), sounds 50 times better to me.
Track 11 (7:09) - I Wanted to Tell (Extended version) is also very clean. I don’t recall this version but I’m sure I’ve heard it before.
Track 12 (6:18) - Revenge (Remix)
Unreleased
Long intro
Sounds a little different to my ears (keys & background vocals)…meaning the levels of certain tracks are higher.
In certain areas, the keyboard pitch sounds a bit higher…Am I hearing things?
There’s different lyrics towards the end of the song.
Ends differently… a slow ho…ho…ho.
Cool! Thanks for the info, I’ll be ordering my copy soon!

yep, the 2012 re-release of this album is louder. it’s not only like ~5dB louder, it’s also a tiny little bit compressed, as you can see here, with both tracks at the same volume adjustment:
http://gila.deathmask.net/screenshots/effigy.gif
which ain’t a bad thing, because there’s not even a hint of the plague that is commonly called loudness war, in fact, there’s like no clipping at all, which is great! to me, 2012 release sounds also just a bit brighter than original 1983.
now on to the content, original album we all know, and the two bonus tracks #10 and #11 were released on i wanted to tell her 12’’ single - which is very very nice to hear them without any pops and clicks. the revenge remix is nothing noteworthy, but still - very cool to have, i wonder if it’s actually genuine mix by ministry and not some bogus thing like those “cold trax”/“hot trax” remixes.
weakest point is that the disc has 22 minutes of unused space, and could also at least feature i wanted to tell her (tongue-tied mix) and work for love (extended version), maybe throw in couple more work for love versions - there were like fuckin’ 5 or 6 of them, but the winners were two short versions with different dialogue between al and a woman during the bridge. hillarious stuff.
but i wonder - has this with sympathy rerelease already sold more than relapse? [:)]
Received my copy yesterday. It sounds like a reissue of the original album as opposed to a true remastering from the original tapes. The dude credited with the remastering (Joe Gastwert) is the same person listed on the original Arista CD (circa 1990?) when “With Sympathy” was first released on CD.
The bonus tracks, however, do sound newly remastered. They sound great - particularly the “Revenge” remix in surround sound. Interesting that this appears to be under license from Sony Music UK. So, perhaps that’s why the “Work For Love” 12-inch mixes weren’t included - since those were Arista-only US promo releases.
Fun to add to the collection!
and yes, Wempathy deserves royalties…lots of 'em!
oh yeah, speaking of the bonus tracks again, when the re-release or remaster of WS was announced, the tracklisting had “Work For Love (Dub)” instead of “Revenge (Remix)” - on like almost every pre-order website.
and speaking of revenge remix - it indeed has different lyrics
the “far below, far below” verse is longer and has “far below is the place you know” line at 2:51 which is missing in the album version.
at 5:05 there’s something that sounds like a vox fuck up because he sings “there you were with a man one-one-no” instead of “once more”; preceeding lines of him walking in the bedroom hall and beatin’ 'round the bedroom door got replaced by “the corridor, yes, the corridor” in the album version.
in addition to that, the song has this break in the middle at 3:32, which they actually played live!!
The different lyrics were sung live in 82 as well.
i just checked and they were also in the demo version
This re-master hasn’t been brickwalled then ?
nop
Is the revenge remix more like this live version?

No, the Revenge remix is more like the 1983 live version. If you’ve seen the pro-shot video clip of the 1983 Minneapolis show, the remix sounds a lot like that version.

I’m almost certain that the live backing tracks for that song were culled from the remix. Makes sense because the remix was done post album, during rehearsals. WFL got a similar treatment.

So you knew about this remix Wemp? I never heard of it.
Are there any others remixes\unreleased tracks back then you can recall?? Noting what you shared on you tube.
I was just listening to the demo…Who’s the chick singing?

I wonder who is really getting royalties from this release.

I knew there were several extended versions worked up and that one of them became the basis for the live version during the '83 Tour. I might have even had the full version at one time to practice along to because the newly released remix didn’t seem like something I’d never heard before. All the bits sounded familiar, but I just assumed that it wasn’t new to everyone, so I didn’t think twice about it.
Different mixes of other songs? Nothing that I can remember but then I’m surprised as anyone when new stuff resurfaces. A couple of the songs I posted on my YouTube channel I had forgotten completely about until after a few listens. Then it kinda seeps back in.
The singer is Doreen Chanter, IIRC?
Just bought this for under 10 bucks on Amazon. There were quite a few available.
Late,

Thanks…she’s in the Roger Waters videos released in 84 & 87.
