The End Of NIN

“lazy effort” is a kind interpretation.

“Adios Puta Madres” seemed appropriate by the effort he gave for the last tour and so on. Was certainly a nice “fuck you” of a final tour…

Correction: The Wiltern was 38 songs - Down In the Park was played on the piano by M. Garson prior G. Numan singing it.

I flew out to CA with one set of Palladium tickets in my name and ended up going to all four shows. Will post up the pictures later from the following vantage points:

Palladium - the sweetest spot in the GA balcony
Echoplex - between the soundboard and orchestra left bar
Fonda - front row balcony
Wiltern - pit (I was standing in front of JMJ)

I would rank the shows in this order: Fonda, Palladium, Wiltern, and Echoplex with the first three being the best by far.

Oh, we ran into the band members from IO Echo on their way to their vehicle when we were on the way back to our car.

I need to sleep now because I feel like I haven’t slept in ten days!

How’d you like the Wiltern for a nice intimate show? I’ve been to the wiltern for several shows. I met Slash there. It’s a really nice and cozy venue. Did you make it to Amoeba?
Late,
grmpysmrf

anybody got a pic of the limited edition pin the sold at only the lvery last show?

There are plenty of Wiltern audio/video/photo links here: http://forum.nin.com/bb/read.php?21,859474,page=1 Note: we were the urban camping boat people.

Here is a link to Eric’s Wiltern HD video with synced audio from the back of the center of the pit: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ly3ZD-64o9k Eric stayed in the hotel with us on the extended portion of the trip (Wiltern for Fonda ticket trade). He also has the entire Fonda show from the first row of the balcony.

The sound in the pit is alright, but it is not as great as it would be if I had been in the middle of the floor or the balcony. Since I was right in front of JMJ, the bass came across the strongest. Since only 250 people of 2200 are allowed in the pit, I will say that we had plenty of room and it was nice to not have 1000’s of people crushing me so I cannot breath, resting their arms on my shoulders, hitting me in the head, clawing, and getting me full of their sweat while standing second row behind the rail.

My trip-mate’s cousin was in town playing the Whiskey (Hollow Point: http://www.myspace.com/hollowpointmpls). We met him (and his bandmates) down at Guitar Center on Sunset and then we went to Amoeba. My trip-mate picked up several Wax Vinyls for his Wax Trax! collection. I looked at several things, but I didn’t buy because I can find them cheaper on the net. The store reminds me of the set up we had here in Orlando at the Virgin Megastore. They were comparable in size.

Porkspam: If the Wiltern had a pin, I didn’t see it when I purchased my event t-shirt (I had tunnel vision at that point). As far as I know, the Palladium show is the only show that had a limited edition pin. People had to pick up their tickets between 1 and 5 pm to receive it. I’ll take a photo of the Palladium pin and put it with the pics of the four event t-shirts.

Smurf: Our most interesting cross-section-of-L.A. experience was going to the Hollywood Ralph’s on Sunset between 8 and 9 pm on Tuesday evening!

Edited to add link to HD video with synced audio.

Special guests Danny Lohner, Eric Avery, Dillinger Escape Plan, Gary Numan, and Health.

Glad to see Lohner and Trent don’t have any bad blood

Some here might disagree with me but I don’t see the big deal with Gary Numan; bar a select few songs most of his stuff I just can’t get into. I think it’s a step down for Reznor to pay him such homage at the “twilight” of his own vastly superior act. Yes I know he was an influence but beyond PHM I think Gary Numan has precious little to do with NIN, bar the odd cover.

It’s a personal thing I guess for Trent so I’m not going to say anymore but I am going to have another drink.

You can listen to Pretty Hate Machine and honestly say Numan didn’t have an influence on that album? You can listen to The Downward Spiral and see some of that influence there as well, but by that point Trent was moving on and really creating his own thing.

Numan was original for the fact that while others were starting to do synth pop albums with melodies and same lyrical messages, Numan was going the dark, goth route that people like Depeche Mode, NIN, and Ministry followed. Twitch could surely be influenced, possibly even With Sympathy and the singles around that time.

If Trent to have invited Al onstage, and someone would’ve asked the same question. Trent was obviously influenced by him as well.

Funny you should mention Al. Someone had on a “The Land of Rape and Honey” t-shirt at the Wiltern and TR made comment about it. Here is the link to the video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yQpOE5Q2_rc

Maybe GN is not a big deal to you, but Metal was incredible with him signing it at the Palladium show.

This show was a 580-person, low-ceiling sweatbox/sauna with really horrible sight lines if you were not in the pit - and pretty much the entire floor was a pit at times. TR complained about the lack of air conditioning and wrung the sweat out of his shirt out over the top of a guitar.

Gary Numan’s done amazing work and I cannot imagine “Closer” would have existed as it did w/o his influence, that main synthline is so Gary. “Down in the Park” is one of my favorite ever pop songs and would have loved to see Gary sing it w/NIN live!

Numan’s fantastic. There were a lot of synth-pop bands in back in the day, but nothing quite like him. Critics hated him at the time, but he got the last laugh.

My point exactly!

And I got the chance to hear NIN’s show in NYC, the first one where they decided to play TDS in it’s entirety. Amazing.

We knew when they started to play Heresy at the Palladium that he had lied about never playing TDS again and we all went crazy.

For those of us who were at the Palladium, we can’t thank the Webster enough for charging too much for filming! [:P]

Seriously, the film crew at Webster Hall wanted an exorbitant amount of money to film the show.

I transferred my pics over - now to upload, rotate, and delete the over/underexposures.

Was TR promoting fans to film/record this whole “final” tour or just that one show?

HD Video is changing the face of the bootleg, not just NIN, but I have seen some absolutely amazing boots shot in HD starting to come out, I think it must be official until I realise there’s a bit too much swaying and focus on wierd stuff. I have a collection of the worst (due to rarity) quality boots…if only HD had been around since the 80’s… 70’s… 60’s? [laugh]

Yes, fan video, audio, and photo were encouraged for all ten Wave Goodbye Club Tour shows.
