And the biggest nod to the group’s history and wild diversity was that it showed the video for the Revolting Cocks’ “I’m Not Gay.”
Now I’m all curious and stuff.

About being gay?
Ouch…
Ouch, indeed.

Uncle Al must be saving that super awesome career spanning set for that final Chicago show. I just know it.

Doubt it.
Wow, those are so harsh but entirely true. Those reviews are really on the mark. Ministry is dead (for now…and definitely in the U.S. for the time being, and soon in europe until that likely gets cancelled or shortened). I kinda feel like ranting about it a bit, but i’m not. I’m now just going to say and assume that ministry is dead and there’s nothing else to do it. And if it ever “reforms”, which i’m sure it will, it’ll just continue to be the walking, talking zombie that we’ve had since 04.
Stay down.
I’ll check out the new revco whenever that comes out, and i’ll likely check out Pailhead and Lard when those come about. But Al Jourgensen will never recieve another penny from me ever again.
Suppose I did rant a little, huh?
How boring would it be to play a set night after night in the exact same order? Plus old ass Al has got to be getting tired if he’s leaning up against the speakers while Burton sings.
Yep, those reviews nailed it. Sun Times and Tribune, too, ouch. Al might as well finish of the Chicago run with the same set…nothing will save face at this point. For Ministry to save any kind of ‘special’ set solely for Sunday would be the biggest insult of the whole tour.
Anyone here going tonight or tomorrow?

Wow this is like the dis Ministry site ! I was at The Thurs. show with three friends and we all LOVED it ! This is coming from a Chicago native who has been to every Cocks/ Ministry show ever in Chicago (aside from Filth Pig) which kinda sucked because most of the band showed up a my buds house after the show (No Al though) Ive even been to Wax Trax and had a beer with Al at the old Exit. Now Im realllly showing my age! Ive enjoyed seeing all the changes the band/bands had been through. Not all the stuff has been gems mind you ,but what band is? As far as “pro” reviews go, I have not read one good review since he left Chicago (I/E, Trib,Suntimes). If I paid attention to what those guys say Id be at a Milly Cyrus show or some shit ! I loved the show and hope to see him again in some shape or form.
i have been informed that the friday night setlist was the same.
Boo-hoo same setlist… Fuck that. Who cares. Did you have fun? Was it worth it seeing al play a show? Didn’t you think burton really added to the vibe? If you’ve been to past tours where they played all the old songs, why complain? You already saw they play those songs. He’s put out a few recent albums and wants to do that material. He’s made a big deal about the whole anti-bush trilogy and going out with W into the sunset. SO one would assume he’d play that stuff. The only thing that sucks is that people keep saying it was advertised as a collective of all the old and new… Which i never really understood where that came from. Yeah you may assume on his C-u-latour he’d play it all, but then that’d be more of an anniversary tour. The guys almost 50. I’m surprised he’s even able to do what he did at the NYC show for a guy his age. Especially after how he treated his body for all those years. And the line-up band wise is great. They played a tight set and that’s all that really matters. And then you get an encore where they loosen up and fuck around with a few covers and you all act like it’s like they fucking took a shit with the lid down in your bathroom.

More like a feeling of pissing on your shoes and running off with your money.
Christ, enough already. Peeps still give a shit about this thing???
To defend the quality of the show just coz Gramps Jourgensen is 92 yrs old is appalling. Tom Waits is like 100 years old and he still puts on a first rate show for somebody who’s hada rough + tumble life. As for this place being a Ministry “dis site”? Pfft. Hardly. I do have a negative attitude concerning the incessant pre-hype, and when I review a band’s concert or latest offering I compare their advertising of it with what they actually produced. I consider that only fair to the listeners or concert goers who bought tix or records because of the advertising. Other people (PA members ) may have become benumbed by 5 years of Ministry’s hyberbole, but I consider them accountable for not only what they produce but what they advertised it as being. During Nixon’s terms in office, journalists realized he had to be accountable not only for his actions, but also for what he was doing, specifically Cambodia and Watergate. Perhaps Ministry like Nixon ( or a Bush ) expect journalists to have a positive attitude and blindly accept everything they are told. Is this what one calls honesty?
I do not write my posts out of anger ( and most definitley not revenge ) but there is nothing unethical in expressing your emotional reaction to a show or band or record as well as analyzing it. We are dealing with music here - not mathematics. I feel it my duty here to not only point out the emotional content of anything but to indicate my emotional reaction to it - be it anger, lust, envy, joy, sorrow, humor, etc. In doing this, the impression that cold white typed words on a black background tends to give of absolute truth is dispelled and awareness that is just one person’s opinion is obtained. This is what I consider honesty.
In internet parlance- Quoted for Truth.
Yeah tom waits is old. But he’s not playing shows that are mostly from his popular albums from like 3 decades ago. I mean shit nighthawks at the diner was a great waits cd, but if i was him i’d shot myself if i was still playing those songs over and over. Why bother even making new music if the fans are just going to bitch and moan about the lack of the old stuff.
as richard pyror would say (channeled via eddie murphy) “have a coke, a smile and shut the fuck up”
i have been informed that the saturday show was not the same setlist, but no one told me how it varied yet. we shall see.
This argument is going in circles. If people don’t understand the set list issue by now, they never will. You just can’t assume that those unhappy with the set list have seen Ministry on every single tour going back to the 80’s. I don’t expect Ministry to play a completely different set every night, I just expect a little more variety from a band that has been around 27 years. Bands do rehearse other songs, and change up encores. The guy is skipping over five studio albums (not including WS) on a career-ending tour. That doesn’t leave much left to work with.
I don’t mind hearing new songs live, I expect it, but I guarantee you that over 50% of the fans want to hear the old stuff, too (esp. new fans). People are going to have expectations when you say it’s a “farewell tour”. Bands such as RUSH and The Cure do it the right way, they play every tour like it’s a farewell tour. The fans deserve better, esp. with today’s ticket prices.

i think it’s appalling that the tour was advertised the way it was. i don’t think i’ve mentioned that before because i didn’t care. i wasn’t planning on going unless i could jump into a perfect disguise and be afra’s “date”. al’s got to make that cash somehow, so why not with a hype.
yeah, celine dion, ballet companies, whatever have an audience that expects a certain rehearsed, refined, tuned up collection of STANDARDS.
if you have a rock band, or this particular rock band, nobody expects the same set of NEWER STANDARDS, and a bone thrown to the last suckers who believed the website offering of a retrospective.
i almost puked at the thought that the fence would be revived "frankenstein " style(nod to connelly). and not cool.
what’s next. a jimmy buffett style tour with al touting his radical chicken wire fence?
Just read over in the PA that they ran out of goodie bags for the VIP meet and greets in Chicago.
Killing Joke are doing a tour soon with the original line-up and they WILL be playing the classics…“always look on da briiight side of life!”[cool]
This was brought up before but i’ll just update it briefly. the cure have started their US tour a couple nights ago and so far have played 2 shows. There were 9 different tracks played just between those 2 shows. and i’d expect every night to be different. so it is doable even though most bands do stick to the same setlists most every show. but i’d be 100% fine with ministry’s current setlist if it wasn’t advertised as it was. at least the chicago press seemed to get things right. i’m just glad this tour is finally winding down so i won’t have to hear about it anymore.
now let’s hope barker DOES REALLY GET A “COVER BAND” TOGETHER to play all the stuff people have been wanting to hear.
ladies and gentlemen…THE HERMES PAN BAND!

Today marks the 5th anniversary I have seen Ministry live. I have only seen them once, in Atlanta in 2003, and I think the video of it speaks for itself.
I am glad I have not seen them since then. It’s a shame.
