The Blood Of Hereos

“King Solodawn’s Mines”

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0397501/

I honestly didn’t even know about this one. Apparently there was another version of “King Solomon’s Mines” done in 2004 as a TV 2-part miniseries starring Patrick Swayze. I definitely gotta find this.

I love those cheesy 80’s King Solomon films with that low-rent bearded Chuck Norris knockoff. There was another called “Allen Quartermain and the Lost City of Gold”, I believe, and I can’t remember which was first and which was the sequel. They were both awesome, though (B-level ripoffs surfing the wake of the Indiana Jones movies).

Yeah, it was Richard Chamberlain in those King Solomon’s Mines shows, and Sharon Stone (i think), starting off wearing trousers which, by the end, had turned into tiny hotpants.

There was one with Chuck that was kinda like it as well, him and Louis Gossett Jr in Firewalker. If i recall right Sonny Landham from Predator played some kind of Inca priest bad guy possibly. By God we’ve seen a serious amount of bad films on this board!

Lou Gossett Jr. is AWESOME!!!

I feel like getting an “Iron Eagle” DVD now! (Which was totally NOT riding the coattails of Top Gun, I should note. No, Sir! Completely coincidental timing, it was!)

Yeah, he really is. I loved him in An Officer and a Gentleman and Enemy Mine. I got a good chuckle in Dolph Lundgren’s Punisher film when Louis Gossett’s been captured and has to go to the toilet, saying “I’m sure your boss won’t appreciate a yellow stain on his leather chair”. He asks the bad guy to untie his hands. The guy refuses and he says “you gonna handle the equipment for me?”

He’s a good actor, also really enjoyed him in Midnight Sting (as it was known in the UK), i think in the US it’s called Diggsville, him and James Woods as a boxer and his promoter respectively. Well worth checking out.

What the hell happened to Lou Gossett Jr.? He was like the Sam Jackson of the '80s and then he up and disappeared.

He’s a pumpkin farmer now…

No wait, that’s Jim Martin from Faith No More. I’m so confused…

He showed up recently on an episode of the latest season of Boardwalk Empire…I was surprised as shit to see him…

Does he still look the same? He always seemed to be a real ageless kind of guy.

Heck yeah! DIGGSTOWN is great!

He is definitely showing his age but still looked pretty good…great actor…but can we all just pretend like Jaws 3D never happened…has there ever been a more disappointing 3D sequence in the history of film then that final frame of Jaws breaking through the glass? I think not…

Oh yep I saw Spacehunter in 3D. That was when we were grasping at straws in the hope we’d get another film as awesome as Empire Strikes Back. Spacehunter surprisingly wasn’t it.

Heck yeah! DIGGSTOWN is great!

YES IT IS! my old roommate back in college was a fan and we ended up watching that movie and cheering… quite loudly.

classy flick that one.

as for all this Allan Quatermain conversation…

the pulp novels are pretty rad. its a shame that the most of the movies made out of the books were done in a knock-off Indiana Jones style, because it is quite clear that Indiana Jones as a character borrows a lot from Allan Quatermain and similar classics, (like Doc the fuck Savage!)

Totes…they tried to say my all-time fav show as a kid Tales Of The Gold Monkey was an Indiana Jones knock off too…except it’s script was written before Raiders Of The Lost Ark!

True. The Gold Monkey and Quartermain stories existed pre-Raiders, but we can’t deny that putting them to film was inspired by the success of Indy.

I like Lou Gossett Jr. but Iron Eagle was terrible. One reason you don’t see him much anymore is something like 75+ years old.

Shit yeah, i just looked him up, he was born in 1936!

Iron Eagle was terrible.

You just shut your mouth.
You hear me?
Just shut your damn dirty mouth!!!

I’m surprised no one mentioned “The Ice Pirates” on this thread. SPACE HERPES!

oh yeah, obviously. haha.

Oh man Ice Pirates was class. When we finally got it on video (it was always out on hire) we watched it over and over again. The only thing I remember I remember from that film is the big fight scene where it goes fast forward and they become totally old.
