The 80's Fav TV Show Thread!

Well where to start???

I think my fav would have to be “Tales Of The Golden Monkey”…anyone remember that one??? It was kind of an Indiana Jones rip-off except it was cool! I found the opening credits on youtube and wow what a flashback…i miss this show!

Another classic was “BJ And The Bear”…i’m sure this was an “Everyway But Loose” rip-off…instead of an Orangutan BJ’s pal was a chimp! BJ drove a Mac Truck with his pal Bear the Chimp and kicked bad guy ass! Here is the opening credits to that one…

The 80’s kicked ass!

Full House! NOT, it would have to be Star Trek: The Next Generation

BJ and the Bear was a 70s show but I remember it.

In that case this is now a “Fav 70’s 80’s TV Show” thread!!

i was young but remember watching a lot of Soap, and Alias Smith and Jones with my older brother. both from the 70s i think.

outside of cartoons i was all about miami vice and airwolf as a young kid.

The A Team
Knight Rider
Night Court

so many…

MIAMI VICE - 5 years of style over substance, and I ate up every minute of it. Also, the best soundtrack ever assembled for a TV show:

Brian Eno, The Cure, Dead Can Dance, Fields, Ministry (Stigmata), Propaganda, PIL, Shriekback, Tackhead, Jan Hammer’s instrumentals…just remarkable. Somehow they managed to relicense all the orignal music for the DVDs.

Also liked Crime Story w/Dennis Farina, though it went downhill pretty fast. USA’s Night Flight was a weekend staple, as was MTV’s 120 Minutes. Parker Lewis and Herman’s Head were funny, and who can forget The Young Ones? Oh yeah, Dr. Who - the Colin Baker years, Fawlty Towers and Monty Python (70’s, but I didn’t see them until the early 80’s).

Was Max Headroom in the 80s? I loved that one.

Does anyone remember that Mad Max style TV show starting the Australian guy who did the “Energizer, oi!” commercials? I remember that being really really bad. I was big into Remmington Steele back in the day and watched just about every crappy sitcom in the 80s, I was a TV addict. Now I haven’t had channels for close to a decade but Netflix keeps me in the quality shows (I love Lost).

green death - you’re thinking of Mark “Jacko” Jackson, and the show was called The Highwayman:

Looking into our Aussie friend a little further, I found this fantastic album cover, who wouldn’t want a copy of that record?

And here’s another little gem from Jacko:

That is one purty album cover…hoo boy!

He apparently has videos on YouTube, which I can’t see at work. He has a song called “My Brain Hurts”…how can that be ignored?!

I can totally relate to this topic.

As much as I am a fan of ‘noise’ shit like Whitehouse, Merzbow, Wolf Eyes, Kevin Drumm etc etc, I am also as much a closet fan of…eighties ‘family’ sitcoms!! Huge fan of Roseanne, The Wonder Years and especially Family Ties. I even have a Golden Girls box set dvd!

Nobody knows about this apart from you guys now. It’s a hush hush secret!!

I do remember Tales of the Golden Monkey Maggo, it was a great show one of my favorites. It may have been an Indiana Jones knockoff, but the south pacific setting was cool. We even had a book of the first episode in our public library.

I was a fan of the private eye/action/cop shows like Riptide (with the godawful pink helicopter), Simon & Simon, the Equalizer, Hunter & countless others. Anyone remember Sledgehammer? This was a Naked Gun type spoof of all the aforementioned cop drama shows that was pretty good. Now that most of my favorite cartoon series of the '80s are on DVD, maybe the studios will release soem of these classic shows.

Tales from the darkside, Cheers, Family Ties,
( I was 4 in 1980 and 13 in 89 so aside from school TV was a full time job) I remember watching mash with my parents; hated it at the time Love it now. WKRP in Cincinnati, Another one i hated but was forced to suffer through as a child. I haven’t seen it since I was a child so I don’t know if I’d like it now. Head of the class was ok .
THe Wonder years was a staple of my 6th and 7th grade years!
A team and knight rider were obviously there too!!

I still get chills thinking of that intro to Tales from the Darkside, good stuff.

Yeah Sledgehammer totally RULED!!! “Trust me…i know what i’m doing!” Bwhahahahahaha!!!

Equalizer was cool too!!!

As for Jacko…he was a pussy!!! Rugby League legend Mal Manenga slammed Jacko in a boxing match…check it here for a good laugh!!

Don’t forget the ultimate in funk…“Good Times”!!

the equilizer !!! hells yes! that intro totally captured the essence of the 80’s. at leat how I remember them growing up, graffitti and garbage everywhere! such a sense of hopelessness!!!
On a lighter side “crazy like a fox” was a pretty funny show! with jack warden. “What could possibly happen?”

Alf, because it was so stupid, bland and yet so wrong. The Howard the Duck of tv shows, so bad it becomes fabulous. And it was written by that junkie.

Seinfeld.

Well, it started being aired in 1989 so it is very much a 90s show, but since we are talking about sitcoms, might as well mention the best one ever made…
