Bands that you cannot stand but begrudgingly admit that one particular album of theirs is stellar?
First one that comes to mind for me is Rio by Duran Duran.
Then probably Shabooh Shoobah by INXS

I like heaps of those old 80s synth pop/rock albums - Icehouse, Tears For Fears etc.
Brings back alot of good memories.

I dunno if the few of you who claim to only like pussy early Ministry are just fucking with us or not, but honestly I don’t see what this board could possibly hold for you.
Assuming that the post-Syd Barrett Pink Floyd is a different band than the original Pink Floyd…I’d have to say “Dark Side of the Moon”.
Because all the Syd Barrett era PF is quite good.
What self-respecting synth player can’t get into Wish You Were Here?
Wish you were here is great… almost on par with Dark Side I’d say.
And I know I’ll get flamed for this as I did before, but I’d say Siamese Dream by the Pumpkins falls into the Terrible bands with ONE great album category.

I find WYWH quite ponderous. Besides, I’ve always thought myself as more of a guitarist who tries to play keyboards once in a while.
And I know I’ll get flamed for this as I did before, but I’d say Siamese Dream by the Pumpkins falls into the Terrible bands with ONE great album category.
Won’t flame you for it, but will give you that Siamese Dream is better than anything else the Pumpkins put out but wouldn’t classify it as “great” just listenable.

The only redeeming moments on that album are moments of the SOYCD suite and (when I’m feeling mellow) the title song. I never quite understood why it’s always thought of as one of Floyd’s higher works. Animals is WAY more entertaining.
Their early work was a little too new wave for my tastes, but when ‘Sports’ came out in '83…
