I don’t believe there’s been any discussion about Syria here. Was wondering, what’s your stance on the whole Syria mess, prongers?
Looks like Obama is really pushing for a war nobody wants.

Where’d you get this? He back peddled from military action to congressional approval.

Invading Syria would be like kicking a hornet’s nest out of a tree and having no plan of what to do once it hits the ground.
That said, I have very little sympathy for Bashar Hafez al-Assad and his government.
Yeah, I think it’s pretty retarded, actually. None of the other Arab nations want a strike. It’s gonna do us no good. It’ll likely just cause more trouble and chaos for Syria and, as always, we’ll be the bad guys (perhaps rightly so).
I listened to Obama’s speech on Saturday. He said we’re doing this without the support/ approval of the UN. He then said he was going to have debates/ votes with Congress. I thought that sounded like a really chickenshit way for him to try and do some pre-emptive blameshifting so that when we went through with this he’d put it on everyone else as well.
Never once did I hear him bring up what the Syrians want. Do they even want us to strike with burning death from above? I’m sure they’d love more weapons and supplies and ground support, but I’m not sure if they really want what Obama is planning.
Call me crazy, but I feel like Obama (whom I actually “like” overall as a president) has revealed a secret side of himself that is pretty generic, actually, for any US President.
I think anyone that wants to be President is by default kind of a megalomaniac, and I think one thing that almost all of them want is to lead a war or invasion. Their the Commander-in-Chief, and by God they’re gonna show it. They don’t just want to play around with a war or conflict that they inherited from the previous jerks. They want their own.
And I think that’s what Obama wants right now. It is the ultimate in God-complex masturbation. The rush that these people must get in being able to command 10’s of thousands of soldiers with their billion dollar death machines to lay waste to nations . . . . man, I can’t even wrap my head around it. I feel like a different person just shooting gun at a piece of paper.
Anyway, I’m not going to disagree with the “reason” for the currently planned retaliations. Some pricks are gassing their people . . . . uhh, yeah, gas attacks are bad, mmmkay? But if this is an outrage against all of humanity and an offense against God and nature . . . where are the other countries? How come we don’t have the support from the UN and the rest of our allies.
It just seems like a big stupid wank to me.

I agree completely.
I was watching this thing a few nights ago where they asked Syrian-Americans what they thought about this whole mess and what they thought the US should do. And a good chunk of them were for the US launching Strikes and ousting the Syrian regime. Later they were reporting from IN Syria asking civilians, and most of them were totally against it, scared shitless of a US strike. Opinions vary drastically. Obama’s really gotta take into account what the Syrian people want too, they gotta live there and deal with the shit that happens.
Never once did I hear him bring up what the Syrians want. Do they even want us to strike with burning death from above?
This is really the money shot for me. If they don’t want our help then take note from recent history, we will NOT be greeted as liberators.
I’m sure they’d love more weapons and supplies and ground support, but I’m not sure if they really want what Obama is planning.
We shouldn’t offer that anyway cause there’s no guarantee they won’t use it against us at some date later in the future.
The fact that the UN won’t support this, as well as no other countries should really be a large hint, no matter what congress says.

The most favorable headline I can imagine is…
“Turkish Special Ops Capture Maher al-Assad”
I think that would satisfy everyone.
I’m against getting involved with Syria for obvious reasons that have been mentioned already by pretty much anyone with half a brain.
Getting congressional approval isn’t very smart either. Because… well, look at motherfucking congress and the morons we have there.
Obama, I voted for your lying, lazy ass twice just because I had the slightest hope that one day, during a press conference, you’d reply to a major question about a major decision with, “Nope. Fuck that.” Now’s your chance, motherfucker. Fool me once… err…

HAHA!!! Yes. That too.

The house is all war hawks while the senate is not. Wonder how this will turn out…[rolleyes]

As I was watching a bunch of political chowderheads babbling tonight they were saying that “they want to get rid of Assad, but they want a regime change via diplomacy and not military action” (not an exact quote, sorry) and yet they were also saying that the strike’s purpose is to “deter Assad from using chemical weapons and to encourage him to step down” or some craziness.
WHAT!!! How in the heck on any planet does any of this even remotely make sense? We believe (rightly so) that there’s a big bad evil boogieman that’s holding the Syria by the balls, but instead of dropping a couple Green Berets and Navy Seals on the ground to put a bullet through this guy’s face and give the place back to the people (yeah, I know, easier said than done, but still), we’re just going to strafe the nation with missiles and bombs . . . killing buttloads of innocent civilians and destroying more property and infrastructure . . . and hope that the one guy in the country that we actually DO want dead “gets the message” and quits his post?
I’m gonna have to agree with 'ol Rumsfeld here and say that all this talk is idiotic. Either we invade and topple the regime completely . . . . or we stay the eff out and do nothing.
It just doesn’t make any sense to me and I’m getting angrier about it each day. At least I can draw a line (however curvy it may be) from US interests, security, protection, etc. to the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. But this one? Good grief. Could we not find a more random thing on the planet to decide to butt our noses into?
Oh, and I saw a report today that about 60% of Americans OPPOSE action in Syria. Only 35% support it.
This is just such an idiotic situation and it’s making me really hate Obama. I think this is going to be a really defining moment for him, and not in a good way.
yea, striking select targets to try and send a message to their govt makes lilttle sense. It’s like watching a big brother bully the little brother and all you do to help is throw pebbles at him. And it would just make life more unbearable there for the civilian population. If you really want to send a message you oust the fucker completely.

The poll I saw was higher than that.

Well, the first committee gave it the 'ol okey dokey.
We’ll see what happens next . . . .
yeah, i mean, i am pretty much against war/wars almost ALL the time, but especially here, when there are SO MANY other options to try that dont involve carpet bombing a whole nation…
this is why i didnt vote for obama.
Jill Stein all the way.

You better rethink your voting cause ALL republicans love to go to War!

I hope you understand that we do have the right to vote for candidates who are neither Republican nor Democrat.
We also have the right NOT to vote.
I didn’t vote for Obama either.
But I certainly didn’t vote for McCain.

Oooo McCain, I’m afraid he’d just neglect his presidential duties by playing poker on his phone, like he did at the Syria hearing. What a redneck LOL.
