Sound is good.
Hans De Vante lineage is solid.
Hopefully Wempathy will pop in and give us the details.
my dime account erm “expired”.
can anyone share these somewhere?
Wow, I thought this might be an upgrade of some demos I already had, but I think these are all new to me. I’ll digest and post some thought later. I’d love Wemp’s take on these too.
Wemp - Not sure if you’re on Dime, but let me know if you need me to send them to you.

Mine did too…just re-register.
Checking it now.
The first two sound like the demos floating around but have perfect quality.
Same old Madness is really different. Different keys (higher note) used in the beginning and where it is used throughout the tune. Acoustic/rhythm guitar used and in different areas. Different lyrics in verse 2. The middle has the drum beat which is a little slower & Al’s vocals are the focus. The outro is all guitar playing. Sounds prettier than the demo released.
She’s Got a Cause sounds the same to me…no differences.
Revenge starts differentially with the keyboards & is a little slower. Same vocals added at the end from the demo that was just released. Haven’t heard this version but it isn’t much different than the demos floating around.
So my guess is that this was a demo from just after they signed to Arista or just before, because of the altered, less controversial lyrics for a couple songs. Must have been nefore the second half of the album was recorded though, as all of these songs dated from well before the WS sessions.
I haven’t listened to a lot of demos from this era. What lyrics did they change?
Can someone host these somewhere else for those of us not using Dime?
- Work For Love (3.51) - Same as the Short Version from the 12"

Judging from the list, and not having heard these yet…these seem to be material recorded at Chicago Recording Company roughly summer of '82. Iain Taylor behind the desk with his faithful assistant Tom Hanson engineering. At the time…it was planned that these would/could be part of an album…probably on Wax Trax.
Then Arista got a whiff and we all know what happened.
So subtract these songs from WS and what you’re left with are the songs that Al wrote in Boston during the WS sessions.
omg im digging that version of same old madness so much, the true gem of the bunch!
amazing

if you listen to the live versions (82-83), this is much closer to how they played it live - with guitar parts - minus the middle cutup vocal section.
which is just like that revenge remix that was released on WS 2012 rerelease - closer to how they played that song live.
fakkin cool!!!

I’m gonna back off my first impression and after hearing it…this stuff is definitely early Synchro Sound sessions.
A couple of things lead me to this conclusion…Brad’s bass in IWTTH for one…and the female voice in Revenge. I stand by the claim that a lot of the backing and rhythm tracks were from previous sessions in Chicago and then ‘enhanced’ at Synchro.
As for Same Old Madness, which sounds a lot better than the video version in my opinion…I think this version might have been worked up at Syncro using the original tracks as a foundation. Why it didn’t make it on to WS is anyone’s guess. Perhaps Wax Trax wouldn’t allow it since they undoubtably financed the original and still held the rights. Maybe it was being held back for a B-side that never happened? Who knows?

Thanks, gila!
This version of Same Old Madness is amazing.
same old madness sounds like a total re-recording. complete with drum machine, heh. it does sound like a 12" version though, so part of me thinks there must be yet another ‘normal’ version out there, somewhere…

merci, mon ami! <3
woulda fit right in on ‘early trax’ along with im falling (alternative version - btw anyone has info about that one??) and overkill.
Thanks guys! This really made my day!!! [cool]
As always, thank you Wemp for the info!

I’m pretty sure in this version of Same Old Madness the Reagan references are removed and “nuclear age” is changed to “modern age”. Also She’s Got A Cause originally had somewhat explicit lyrics, as seen here: http://prongs.org/ministry/lyrics/with_sympathy

There is a rumored demo tape of Al’s home recordings prior to the Wax Trax deal. I’m not 100% certain but I think the Early Trax versions of I’m Falling and Overkill come from this demo. I’m also certain there was a version of Cold Life on the same tape. Wax Trax liked the demo and had Al recut the songs in the studio.
Primental was added to the 12" at the last minute (hence why the original pressing doesn’t have it listed on the sleeve) so I doubt that song was on the demo, although it is possible. Overkill was a leftover Special Affect song, so that’s probably why it was excluded from the 12" as well.
Again, this is what I’ve been able to put together. If anyone has more info, feel free to share.
