a big ol’ stream of noise aimed specifically at those who take themselves way too seriously.

Wow. Just because you don’t “get it”, the people who enjoy this kind of thing must be pretentious, right?
Obviously.

Swans and Michael Gira are badass. It’s a toss up on who I like more though, them or Angels Of Light…

So angry!
No, No, I get it.
<grmpy strolls away laughing>
Listening now. Sounds really cool.
Gira seems determined to bring Swans further into sprawling jam territory, so I’m with it.
2 hours! I doubt I’ll ever even listen to it in full, but if this is what he wants…
With ‘The Seer’ I thought it was good but would have benefitted a lot from editing and pruning, and I see this album being similar.
Still I enjoyed this new track immensely from top to bottom so who knows maybe he’ll pull it off this time!

I noticed on Wikipedia that the song length of one of the new album tracks is 34 minutes, so I’m guessing this time around Gira wasn’t really aiming on being more concise.
Albums that are as sprawling as The Seer really take some patience to fully immerse yourself in. This one I doubt will be any different. But with an artist like Gira it’s well worth the effort. He certainly doesn’t skimp on the violent melodrama. I’d like to be the fly on the wall when that guy sits on the therapist’s couch and unwinds. It’s a wonder he’s never killed anyone. Can’t imagine what his childhood was like.
As much as I like/love Swans, it’s really hard to go past the indie folky era of the early 90s for me. The reunion albums have been good but are something of a step down in terms of song writing ability. He’s become a tad too self indulgent in his old age. Still, I have little doubt that To Be Kind will end up making my end of year greatest albums list, if this new track is anything to go by.

Yeah that’s what I’m saying. I totally “get” ‘The Seer’. It’s a good album that’s just too long and could have benefitted from pruning to be a great album.

But it’s not even that noisy through most of it. It’s actually kind of a funk track.
I was thinking the same thing. Not particularly heavy or weird. Grmpysmrf’s comment was making me scratch my head.

I didn’t even listen to it. I just thought it would be fun to take a big ol’ shit on something that Peligro likes, the same way he shits all over the things that other people like.
It was great to see him go into defensive mode just like everybody else does when he does his thing!

LOL
In all honestly I’ve been rather critical of the last few Swans albums and I’ve dumped plenty of “shit” on enough “experimental” albums over the years to fill a school bus.
<wipes away tear>
This new track is ok but not great, tbh.
The new tune is brilliant. I’ve been super excited for this release since seeing them last year pummel Edinburgh with a set that was 80% material from this upcoming LP. The new material is groove driven monsters!!! The new tune had a surprising amount of electronic tinkering.
Swans rule and there is NO ONE on the planet who delivers a more punishing jaw dropping live show. When you see them live you see another side of rock’n’roll.
I was lucky enough to catch them back in 1991 and even though by that stage they had evolved into a somewhat more melodic venture, it was still heavy enough to blow mind. I will never forget experiencing the 10 minute version they did of Kill The Child. Changed my life. You are right, their really is nothing else like them. The only bands I have seen that came anywhere close were Ministry and The Jesus Lizard - both of whom I managed to catch in 1993.

ha ha. maybe posted to another board but not on this one.
everything you post here is “the stuff I like is better than anything you all like.” but whatev… it’s cool. as long as you shed a tear over it, we’re good.
I liked the Seer quite a bit, but I’m into a lot of side-long krautrock songs, and this seemed to me to be Swans doing that.
The new track sounds pretty good, but not great. It might work better in context of the album. Wonder how much Rieflin has to do with some of the electronics sounds there.
Eh I liked it well enough. I’ll be picking this new album up no hesitations. I’m a completest so I’ll probably end up buying both the vinyl and the cd version, just like I did with the rather awesome last release.
I hope this one is more “electronic-y” and experimental and a bit lighter on the extended jams etc.
Some of the live versions of the new tracks are floating around youtube and are well worth checking out.

If I remember correctly, you are always yammering on about how “this sucks” and “that sucks” when someone mentions a band or artist you dislike. For instance when we talked about the new Soundgarden that came out a while back, your response: “Soundgarden suck and Chris Cornell sucks”. So why single out Peligro? He is no more pretentious than anyone else here who is passionate about something.
Also, Slash sucks.
