True!
I imagine he’s understandably nervous when fans accost him at shows.
When I met Al in 2004 we talked a bit about Jello. I hadn’t said anything about him (I think it’s rude and douchey, actually, to meet a celebrity or rockstar and to ask them instead about another celebrity or rockstar that I like better) but Al mentioned it since I was wearing my LARD jacket which also has a bunch of DK patches on it.
Al was actually almost apologetic about it. “Sorry, Man, Jello’s not gonna be at this gig. He was at the Hollywood show, though.” He then started telling me about how Jello said he was sick . . . and he told me that Jello always thinks he’s sick and is a big hypochondriac. I can’t remember if Al mentioned it or I read it somewhere, but supposedly Jello is also a big germaphobe. I thought that was kind of odd considering his style of performance, diving out into the crowd and being pawed by 100’s of filthy punkrock dirtbags.

Also odd considering he flips through the used record bins to add to that massive record colection of his. Record stores are dirty!
I always just thought his wearing latex gloves on stage was just to be weird, but maybe there’s actually a purpose behind it. I wonder if he wears the gloves while looking through old vinyl too.
hey, more power to Al. it won’t be my thing but if it’s what he wants to do and makes him happy, then good for him.
[reply]LARD: Back around July or so Jello was in LA and they were all working together and supposedly put some tracks down. When and if it all ever gets pressed . . . . well, time will tell. We’ll probably get the remiXXX album for it before the original tracks ever get released.
Is the lineup for the Lard recording the same as the Ministry lineup?[/reply]
Sorry, I just saw this.
I wasn’t following closely, but I would think so, or an abridged version thereof. The only ones I know for certain are Jello, Al, and Sin.

Another cover?

Personally, I think it’s a cool choice for a cover and for all we really know it’s for a b-side.
I’m kinda interested in SMM, though I expect it to sound like ‘punch in the face’ and ‘Mikey’s Middle finger.’
I like Gates of Steel and it’s a genuinely surprising cover choice. First thing that has me interested in this project.
We’ll see.
I’m morbidly fascinated.
But as a DEVO fan, I’m shitting my pants in fear of what’s to come.

Yeah, I’m really not expecting this to be a quality project.
That said, it’s a good outside-the-box choice for a cover song, so I gotta give 'em that.
I love DEVO…

“Al’s new album in its entirety”
Has to be SMM, yes?

Yes. For the low-low price of $30 you can admire Al’s record-playing skills . . . . including the Surgical Meth Machine.[i]
I’m surprised it’s that close to being finished.
Also: Between this and the leather daddy event in SF, it looks like Al is going to be Mr DJ from now on.
Guys, I think we decided we would call this “Surgical Meh Machine.” Who came up with that one?
Honestly, I’m hopeful just because it appears it’s a project that’s actually going to happen. With a Devo cover.
I’m excited because . . . . I’ve not heard anything from it, and have no idea what it is or what it will sound like.
The initial, “fastest record ever” jibber jabber made me kind of dismiss it, but when has Al ever actually put something out that matched (for better or worse) the smoke he was blowing about it?
I like how it’s, up to now, been a total mystery. Will it suck? Maybe. But I hope it’s something really cool.

It seems like he recorded the full thing in a couple of weeks after talking about it for a while. I’ll be interested in hearing how it turns out, whoever the engineer was (Sammy?) mentioned that Al had done some crazy guitar solos.
Yeah, I’m interested too.
I loved the track “Fear (Is Big Business)”, so if it’s fast insanity like that, I’m sure I’ll dig it.
