And for the record - yeah I thought that was pretty shit too.
Fair to say my expectations are low for this even though I am a pretty big Soundgarden fan and have been since about 1993 when I first heard them as a musically clueless 16 year old. Since then I never gave up on the band, never got bored of them, never let their albums collect dust on the shelf. Bought all the merchandise. Bought all the rarities. Hell, I even bought the odd Audioslave cd just to hear THAT voice again.
But I’m finding it hard to get excited over this. Just doesn’t feel right and that average as all hell audio snippet doess little to calm my fears.
That’s not enough to really judge it but to be honest I was expecting something worse. Am I right in thinking there was a new Soundgarden song released recently or it was on a movie or something? Anyway I heard it and it was crap. This snippet doesn’t sound as crap.
I like the way Ben looks though, like a fat bum who doesn’t give a shit.
I don’t think there was a need for Soundgarden to come back but I’ll still give it a whirl when it comes out and if I get to see them play live I won’t turn it down. I’ve only experienced Soundgarden songs live through Audioslave.
Regardless everyone brace for a slew of “Soundgarden fucking rock, dude!”, “Grunge is back, dude!” and so forth
i agree with the earlier love of the superunknown album. i love that fucking thing. i think it should be pre installed on peoples mp3 players along with independent worm saloon. i’m not even really that huge of a fan of SG, but i got it also when i was young and formative, and it still sounds awesome to me today. there’s only like 2 tracks that are kinda weak like 4th of july and such.
i have this awesome 7" picture disc single with an acoustic version of the day i tried to live and some other track on it and that is also awesome. i was smart and “taped” it so i wouldn’t have to play it and work out the image from use.
My brother once had this really cool, heavy version of ‘Fell On Black Days’ taped off the radio in the mid 90s which I then unfortunately taped over making a copy of PJ’s No Code

Can’t even begin to stomach Cornell’s voice. It’s like the feeling of nails on a chalkboard. The only song to date that involve him that I like is Promise on Slash’s solo effort.
and I can tolerate black hole sun and rusty cage and that is pretty much it.

This will be a let down for anyone expecting another “Superunknown”. That album captured a cultural moment for a lot of people. It also came out nearly twenty years ago. To expect this band to come out with something equal to their best works is naïve at best, ignorant at worst.
Much love for Kim Thayil and his magic bag of guitar tones/scales. I’m curious if any influence from hanging with his Southern Lord homies will be heard here. Can’t say I’m clinging onto any hope for Cornell though his voice is still very listenable. Maybe the producer will have the decency to level it with the instruments unlike Audioslave/solo where it’s front and center.
