Sound Familiar?

Never noticed this somehow, but there it is. Synchronicity or borrowing? This was out the year after the Revco 12". No idea if it was recorded earlier, but it’s used as a background sound in exactly the same fashion.

yea, someone posted that here a little while back. I don’t remember who it was that posted it though.

They just used a Fairlight too.

Also this album is much better than previous.

Here’s the original thread, bisquitodoom. The download links for the samples are still active.

Yeah, I missed that one somehow. Does make for a cool song.

On that same subject, I’ve noticed another probably Fairlight stock sample that has been used by Kate Bush and The Cars that is on Twitch, “Where You At Now”. Hard to describe the sample (it’s kind of an orchestra hit sample), but if you listen to Kate Bush’s “The Dreaming” here right at 3:49 you hear it:

I can’t remember the Cars song that had the same sample, but it seems like it was an obscure non-album track. Of course, there was a Cars/Ministry connection back in the day…

Why the fuck am I now learning about Keith Emerson passing?
Anyways, watching The Crow 11:03 into the film. Sounds familiar.
Of course who does the soundtrack. Dope sample . Love the SPK cut.

That’s the one. Gad, I love the Fairlight…

I am also hearing similar sounds between The Psych Furs “Love My Way” and the refrain of “I’ll Do Anything For You”. It would kind of make sense since Vince Ely worked with Al.

Right at about 2:11 or so

Isn’t the orch hit used in “Hello Again”? It was all Fairlight, Jupiter 8 Linn/DMX and DX7 in those days…

I read that Mutt Lange used the very LinnDrum machine on Heartbeat City that was used for most of Pyromania. …and Thomas Dolby played keyboards on Pyromania, credited as Booker T. Boffin since he was on Capitol Records at the time. I had to keep that trivia in my back pocket in Jr. High when stoners would give me shit about listening to new wave and pop.

Completely unrelated, Don Henley was in the same studio as Pat Benatar when she was recording “Love Is A Battlefield”. He loved the LinnDrum track so much, he asked if he could ‘steal’ the rhythm/tempo of the drum track for a new song he was writing called “Boys of Summer”.

Maybe we need a music trivia thread on here…

James Brown sampled for “Halloween”, but I think this has been posted before:

That’s used in the Schwarzenegger movie Raw Deal too, when a carload of bad guys crash into a petrol tanker [:)]

Didn’t Thomas Dolby also perform on Foreigner’s “4” album? Perhaps he was Mutt Lange’s go-to synth guy in the studio.

Yeah, he was credited as “Tom Dolby” on ‘4’, and basically played all the main synth parts (most notably, “Waiting For A Girl Like You” and “Urgent”).

Yes, now that I think about it, you’re right! Not such an obscure track after all…but that’s the one.

Paul Young’s “I Want To Tear Your Playhouse Down” - I think that made good use of “orch5” as well.

Ok, here’s another one I never noticed. The bassline for Quick fix (https://youtu.be/NYKiD03kVGw) that kicks in at 0:30 is from my favorite 23 Skidoo song https://youtu.be/0yKqrgPcfho. Can’t believe I never noticed that before.

Found another song with those tibet samples.

Not related to Ministry or the Fairlight…

For years, I never made the connection between Depeche Mode and Pink Floyd. DM sampled and looped the echoing bass guitar in the beginning of Floyd’s “One Of These Days” for the Violator track, “Clean”.
