Songs for Halloween

Okay, I gathered some ideas for something like this last year but didn’t go through with it. I’m going to make a 1 or 2 if I need more length Halloween mix cd and put it up for download.

So list spooky vibed songs and they will be considered.

I had a decent list last year but I’m going to have to remember them again. So far I’m thinking

Sunn O))) / Boris - Etna
Godflesh - Streetcleaner
Burzum - Det Som En Gang Var
A Type O Negative track, debating on black #1, or all hallows eve, or haunted
Rob Zombie - House of 1000 Corpses(considering)
Black Sabbath - Black Sabbath(considering)
Fantômas - Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer(or maybe a different one from director’s cut)
Melvins - Dies Irea(considering because of the shining connection, I’ll have to listen and see if it can hit the vibe)
A Skinny Puppy song maybe?
Ministry - Leper(maybe?) or Scarecrow(maybe)
Melvins / Lustmord - Idolatros Apostate(considering)
Kayo Dot - On Limpid Form
The Halloween movie theme
Considering a song from Sink’s Hexagon
Unsolved Mysteries theme
Dr. Dre & Ice Cube - Natural Born Killaz

Anything off of Danzig Black Aria I
-notably, “Overature Of The Rebels Angels”

I did this last year and have the list at home. I’ll get back to this with what I came up with then.

Whats the deal with Halloween?
And yes, Im serious. Im Polish and never experienced this holiday. Is the vibe supposed to be authentically creepy (like say, Controlled Bleeding) or somewhat campy? If the latter, then by all means go with the Alice Coopers, Rob Zombies, Type 0 Negatives, Danzig/Misfits and Biles of the world…

Depends on what kind of Halloween party you want to throw. Really it’s a kids’ holiday co-opted by adults. I love it, of course, as do Al “Everyday Is Halloween” Jourgensen and Paul “Halloween Party” Barker.

" i put a spell on you" screamin’ jay hawkins.

well as far as albums go… october rust fits the whole fall season perfectly. i think the first rob zombie album would be the best for the spooky zombie music. as far as godflesh, just put znoybis and bigot on repeat

realistically it’s teaching the youth to learn to pan-handle door to door- they dress up in scary costumes (although over the years it has just evolved into any kind of costumes) knock on doors and say"trick or treat" and the people hand out candy.

Historically it’s a Christian event (even though “good” Christians try to distance themselves from it as it is “The Devil’s Holiday”) used to frighten demons out of their villages. So they would dress up as scary creatures/monsters to cleanse their town.

EXcellent Suggestion!! the only cover that even comes close to doing that song justice is the Marilyn Manson Cover that’s on “Smells Like Children”
Naysayers Flame me all you want! I’m wearing my asbestos Underwear!!!

I accidentally said “Alter” instead of “Etna”, fixed.

And keep the suggestions coming. I’ll be downloading them and suggestions from a couple other places.

Well, horror always mixes the two up pretty much. I like the former but campy works sometimes. I don’t see how you figure TON in that one, but the movie Night of the Demons is great for Halloween in that vein.

Good point about October Rust. That’s why it’s so hard to choose between there’s. They have quite a few songs with halloween references. I’ll probably just pick 2 and go with it. Somebody else also suggested a diff RZ tune from that album. I’ll give them a listen.

I have a Halloween laser light show that I project onto the side of my house. It is somewhat synchronized with a sound effect record. It’s very cheesey and low quality but the novelty of it is cool, I guess.

Definitely cool. I’d check it out if I was in the area. Ambiance and vibes are the key. I’m pissed. I went to spencer’s last month to get a decent strobe light and I had to settle for their small $20 one. Now I go back and they have a much bigger one for $30. I wonder if I can box up the one I bought and get store credit back.

And hahaha, I forgot all about Everyday is Halloween, sweet!

Type O is of course a necessity, id go with either ‘Bloody Kisses’, ‘Suspended in Dusk’ or ‘Haunted’

King Crimson: ‘Devil’s Triangle’
Marilyn Manson: ‘Cryptorchid’
Aphex Twin: ‘Come to Daddy’
Ministry: ‘Grace’ or ‘Dream Song’
Tom Waits: ‘Dave the Butcher’
David Lynch & Marek Zebrowski: ‘Polish Night Music No.1’ (from INLAND EMPIRE)
Brad Fiedel: ‘Garage Chase’ (from Terminator)
Popol Vuh: ‘Bruder des Schattens’ (the first 2 mins anyway)
Einsterzende Neubauten: ‘Armenia’ (or all of Drawing for Patient O.T.)

and A Perfect Circle’s cover of ‘Imagine’… a song so bad it can only be horrifying.

So I’m looking at a 2 disk thing right now. I’m considering making a couple of song edits for time, like the Burzum one is 14 minutes, I’m considering shortening that down and editing the dj solo thing out of Everday is Halloween because it’s so out of place for this. Is that a good idea or should I just leave the songs as is?

Skinny Puppy - Draining Faces and The Mourn, both from Cleanse, Fold and Manipulate - play those out the window to keep the kids away.

1002

Misry tomb By Sam Hain! ON the Final Descent ALbum!

always thought of “Grace” and “Corrosion” as scary, what with the people screaming in the background and the voice over saying “Doomsday the final battle!”

Skinny Puppy - Shadow Cast, Draining Faces and the Mourn - is it just me or is this one of the most overlooked albums in the Puppy catalogue. First album I bought of theirs when it was released although I already had Mind:TPI, Bites, and Remission on tape. This was the first one that Dwayne contributed to all the songs, and the eerie vibe over the whole album rivals that of say Last Rights imho.

As far as Halloween songs go I usually stick with some of the obvious ones

Siouxsie and the Banshees - Halloween
Samhain - Novembers Fire - or Halloween II
Skinny Puppy - any of the ones already mentioned, or Icebreaker
Kerovnian - The Worm of the Broken Urn - this is pretty disturbing
Misfits - _____ (insert any song here)
Godflesh - Streetcleaner or Rats
Severed Heads - Dead Eyes Opened
Christian Death - Death Wish

This is all I can think of right off hand for now…

Room With A View + You and Me and Rainbows by The Tear Garden. Hell, throw on all of Tired Eyes for that matter.

Yes, Icebreaker, another spooky Puppy track, good call ChemicalMeat. Maybe a different Sevs song…Harold and Cindy Hospital?

Just thought of a winner:

SPK - Leichenschrei

1002

Black Sabbath - Black Sabbath
Black Sabbath - Paranoid
Black Sabbath - Master Of Reality
Black Sabbath - Voume 4
Black Sabbath - Sabbath Bloody Sabbath
Black Sabbath - Sabotage

All you’ll ever need.
