Ah yes SPK FTW, good call 1002. I went with DEO purely from a sample stand point what with severing heads and burning bodies, Harold and Cindy is a good deal spookier or perhaps Legion as that one is about the devil.
Just thought of Unsolved Mysteries theme.
Lustmord
Raison D’etre
Yen Pox
Archon Satani
Inanna
Sophia
Protagonist
In Slaughter Natives
Phallas Dei (Pontifex Maximus)
Pessary
Controlled Bleeding (Poisoner)
Zos Kia (Secret Eye of LAYLAH)
I will find last year’s Halloween playlist and post…
Since there are so many suggestions, if any of you have yours in 192kbps and can e-mail them to me to help me out that’d be great. gonna try to narrow it to 2 disks with possibly a bonus disk.
Black Sabbath - Black Sabbath
Black Sabbath - Paranoid
Black Sabbath - Master Of Reality
Black Sabbath - Voume 4
Black Sabbath - Sabbath Bloody Sabbath
Black Sabbath - Sabotage
All you’ll ever need.
This is EXACTLY what I played last Halloween. Good call. [cool]
About “Cleanse, Fold, & Manipulate”… I didn’t like this record for the longest time, but it’s really grown on me over the past few months.
Thinking about playing the Halo album “Guattari: From the West Flows Grey Ash and Pestilence” this year. The whole record basically goes from Streetcleaner-era Godflesh to something that sounds like a mix of a horror movie score and a Merzbow record mixed together and slowed down a whole mess.
Check out the song “Perpetual Rust” for a good example.
I blasted Khanate’s ‘Capture & Release’ last year at the kiddies. Oddly, kids are mostly too ‘OMG CANDY’ to give a rip, but parents look shaken.
Diamanda Galas’ “Plague Mass” is the scariest album ever recorded, but its subject matter may be too real for Halloween.
Heh… People might get a kick outta “Days of Swine & Roses.”
diamanda. good one. but she was even scary to look at.
SPK - Zahmia Lemanni (1985 world music-ish album with a dark gothic vibe. Sounds a little bit dated but still does the job nicely on those dark, rainy evenings!)
king diamond…halloween. how could u guys miss this one.[tongue]
hallows eve stuff from 86.
i concur.
No doubt.
I’m so spinning “Abigail” this year.

Thank you for turning me on to this brilliant artist. I am totally obsessed with her shit right now. Never heard of her, checked her out on a whim after being intrigued by the title ‘Plague Mass’. I’m really into it. Don’t know where to begin though. I like the more experimental side. Don’t really want to hear the stuff just with her and piano. Where do I start?
EDIT: As for the subject matter, I think as long as you can’t make out the lyrics and the vibe is right, it’s cool.

Couldn’t disagree more. Halloween has a whole aesthetic and vibe to it. Black Sabbath is dark, and some of their stuff could work, but a song like “War Pigs” just does not fit the holiday.
Something like Whitehouse, for example, is really dark and heavy, but just doesn’t fit the aesthetic at all.
Pink Anvil’s ‘Halloween Party’ is perfect. Mixes campiness and Halloween samples with darker subject matter and heavier musical elements.
Other artists/albums/songs that come to mind:
Sunn 0))) - ‘Black One’
Skinny Puppy - ‘Cleanse, Fold, Manipulate’ (instrumentals)
Nurse With Wound - ‘Homotopy to Marie’
Hair Police - ‘Constantly Terrified’
Wolf Eyes - ‘Human Animal’
Bauhaus - “Bela Lugosi’s Dead”
Throbbing Gristle - “Hamburger Lady”
Screamin’ Jay Hawkins/Arthur Brown/Diamanda Galas/Marilyn Manson - “I Put a Spell on You” (all good covers)
Modest Mussorgsky - “The Hut on Hen’s Legs (Baba Yaga)”
Psychic TV - “Catalan”
Rob Zombie - “House of 1,000 Corpses”
Also Laibach’s ‘REKAPITULACIJA 1980-1984’ album contains some truly haunting shit. One song in particular uses a lot of samples from the movie ‘Psycho’. I forget the name cuz all the titles are in whatever language…
Some of the album is too overtly political. But a lot of it is really fucking dark and works with the aesthetic.
And of course for the campy/cheesy side you have shit like the soundtrack to Nightmare Before Christmas, “The Monster Mash” etc.

Well, the whole Plague Mass concert is about AIDS. I’d feel kind of guilty using it for something as trivial as a Halloween party.
Anyway, I haven’t heard all of her stuff, but you should check out the three albums that preceded the live Plague Mass album - they were collected in a single package as the Masque of the Red Death trilogy. Schrei X is so experimental that I find in unlistenable. So that sounds like something you might be into! There’s some cool stuff on her collaboration with John Paul Jones, but that album appears to be out of print.
I’m intrigued by this woman as well. I may pick up a copy of that Live CD. You guys give it such a + review!

I also find Sunn O)))'s HELL-O)))-WEEN is really good too.
I haven’t been on my main pc in a few days, I’ll get as much of those as I can today and narrow it down some more. I’ve been meaning to find Halloween Party anyway.
Damn artists and their awesome long songs. I could make an epic box set with all this material.
