fucking vultures, man.
I live about 40 miles south of Houston and it’s been raining here since last Thursday. Wal-Mart and at least two schools are completely flooded, the highways are blocked off, 911 is only working sporadically, and the rain may not end until Labor Day…
fucking vultures, man.
“Yeah, tell us about how the kids are suffering.” Ridiculous.
seriously, put down the cameras and the mics and call some people that can bring in supplies for these people. You work for CNN for christ’s sake, you know these people that can make it happen. Interviews later. Help now. common sense at any fucking time.
Yeah, mainstream media is horrible. On one hand, I see the point of the interviewee but also, if the media did not interview those in need, it may be hard for others to see what they are going through (and donate, etc, etc).

Please stay safe - hope all becomes well very quick

Yeah, but all that can be achieved without sticking a camera in some poor face asking ridiculous questions where the answers are already evident.
Lol I love when reporters get pwned. I remember a similar thing happening to Don Lemon of CNN during the Ferguson protests.
Maybe the woman who was interviewed got some extra help for being asked a stupid question on TV. If so, maybe the interview was helpful to her.
Incredible. So, she gets “extra help” cause she was one of the “lucky” few to have a camera thrust in her face? It’s probably like winning the lotto. She should be elated. She’ll probably be slapped with a fine from the FCC for swearing on tv
And, as viewers, we got to see how distressed some of these people are.
YaY for us we “get to” see someone at their worst. Nobody “needs” to see that.
I have personally been affected by a hurricane, although not that extent, and know that until it happens to you and you are dealing with a torn up house, it doesn’t really hit home.
First off, let me say, nice pun. but more importantly thank you for confirming what I’ve said for years. most normal people don’t have to have some terrible shit happen to them in order to have sympathy and/or empathy for those being affected.
I’ve noticed most conservatives (and yes this a is conservative liberal issue) don’t give a fuck about other people’s problems unless they themselves have experienced it. Case in point. republicans wanted an amendment banning gay marriage. oh, but dick cheney has a gay daughter… “well, I guess they’re not all bad.” My big republican uncle doesn’t like gay people until his wife joins the rowing team where they’re all gay… “there’s nothing wrong with gay people they’re just different…” yeah? no shit… guess what. They’re actually not even “different.” They all need the same things that everyone else does.
Republicans are all “pro gun rights” until they’re a victim of some gun violence that their gun didn’t solve and then “some laws ought to be passed to address this bullshit.”
Texas (and New Jersey) slams a big middle finger up the ass of New Orleans when a spending bill was introduced to help New Orleans, with senators voting NO on the spending bill. Now, here comes a state of republicans devastated by the same destructive hurricane. But guess what Texas wants now? Oh wow, what a shock, a spending bill from the government. This is a state filled with the “don’t tread on me,” and “Government is the problem,” and “Corey the fucking well digger whose all about doing your shit yourself and not getting ‘hand outs’ from the government” people. Imagine that. The people who want to “do everything themselves” want the irresponsible government, who should never collect taxes, to use Tax money to fix their shit.
The list goes on and on and now we have sympathy from you for the hurricane victims probably because as illustrated above “it happened to me.”
It wasn’t polite to stick the camera in the woman’s face but the point that the reporter wanted to make was made: these people are very hurt right now and need some major help.
Again, very easily done with just rolling the camera with what is going on. no need for an interview to personify what were all already seeing.

Well Florida is under a state of emergency now and I am about to get butt fucked by Hurricane Irma…shit.
Well Florida is under a state of emergency now and I am about to get butt fucked by Hurricane Irma…shit.
Good luck, man. I hope you make it through unscathed.
Thanks Grmps…not looking good for me…looks like we are gonna take a direct hit with 140 mph winds…fuck
Holy fuck now its a Cat 5 storm…if Miami takes a direct hit I could potentially lose everything…this is not good
First off . . . all my love and prayers to any Prongers directly or indirectly hurt by these dickhead storms and hurricanes and whatnot. It’s fucking terrible, and even for people who have decent protections built in (insurance, savings, etc.) it is horribly traumatic and brutally devastating.
Back to the topic at hand . . . reporting on trauma/disasters . . .
Everyone handles things differently. I think for some people in such situations that get asked to share some experiences and thoughts on air it can be a bit cathartic and actually help them focus and get moving forward. Others have no interest in sharing on TV or may even feel that they are “exploited” when asked to do so.
The reporting team wasn’t ready for THAT type of response, even though I’m sure they were looking for SOME of it to a degree (people with heightened emotions, heartache, etc.). I think they go into a bit of an autopilot mode where they are tasked to “go in, shoot this, ask this, do this, etc.” and they are not always the best at actually HEARING what is being said to them. Hearing the human part and reacting appropriately.
When asked to get the microphone out of her face I just don’t think anyone really HEARD her loud and clear about what was being said . . . and confusion is quite normal and expected, especially since the lady was still talking to them instead of just turning around and leaving (again, it’s hard for anyone to say what the right move in such a situation is since it’s not so easy to pre-plan how we act in such a crisis).
And, yeah . . . in “defense” of the media in general, they’ve got a no-win hand dealt all the time. They either get down in the shit and show this stuff up front and personal, which comes with criticism from people who may think they’re exploiting others (and really, is the news ever NOT exploiting people) but . . . if they don’t do such reporting and putting such human faces to the horror, they will (and in my opinion, kind of should) get blasted for being cold and not giving proper attention/ coverage.
What we saw was not anything to get up in arms about. We saw some less-than-seasoned reporters catch a faceful of real humanity that they were either unprepared or untrained for. And it’s good that we see that humanity. We caught her desperation, her pain, her frustration. ALL of it. That shit speaks a lot louder than figures, graphs, and swirly colors on a map.
I get a little irritated at a lot of people during such crises. Primarily I get pissed off at people on the Internet who have something shitty to say about anyone and everyone, while not doing a damn thing to actually help.
I saw so many blasts and memes shitting on Joel Osteen for not giving a major public donation or converting his mansion to a refugee center or something . . . okay, so be it. But my response is always the same . . . what have YOU done? What have YOU given? Everyone is so ready to tell other people what THEY should be doing with their time and money. That’s a silly and selfish way to behave.
Don’t like seeing the kids starving? Go make some sandwiches and feed them. Want people to have blood when needed? Donate some of your own. And offer some bone marrow or other shit too if you ever plan on making that complaint. And for tragedies like this where so many of us are far away . . . . money still talks. No, not all charities are as efficient as others (I usually prefer Salvation Army as they’ve got a great track record for being DOERS and for the largest percentage of contributions actually converting to ground support) but if I’m fucked by a hurricane or something I’d rather people open up their wallets even knowing 50 cents on the dollar will eventually come to help me and my homies than sit around with their thumbs up their asses and shouting at people on Facebook.
Anyway, for anyone affected I wish all the best for them. And for those on the outside, I hope they will have some compassion, patience, generosity, and understanding of anyone closer to or right in the middle of such madness.
Holy fuck now its a Cat 5 storm…if Miami takes a direct hit I could potentially lose everything…this is not good
Cross r fingers & toes…hope it turns out ok.

I think the problem with Olsteen is this guy is s’posed to be out their repin’ for the Lord and he’s telling the flock “fuck off.”
Meanwhile [url http://ktla.com/2017/08/29/houstons-mattress-mack-opens-furniture-filled-stores-to-flood-victims/] This guy is doing what he can in the middle of it all NOT telling people to fuck off.
Most people don’t have the means to help and they don’t think of donating blood or food (which is an excellent suggestion) but we’re shown people like olsteen with way more than he needs or can spend being an asshole with it and it begs for comment.
Not sure if it’s true or not but I’v seen reports he broke out the donation baskets, trying to get the refugees to “donate” (see charge) the people for staying in his church.
“Jesus hates to ask, but you gonna have this weeks rent?”
People criticized Osteen because he’s very rich, is based in Houston, is a preacher for a religion that theoretically puts great value in helping the unfortunate, and has an enormous church that could fit lots of people that he didn’t want to open up to people displaced by flooding (until public pressure forced him into it).
