Well it’s hardly worthy of 40 big ones - but so far it’s certainly a damn sight more worthy than that Iron Man 3 schmozzle I was gullible enough to shell out for.
I’ve grown to appreciate a good portion of the Load/ReLoad albums.
Eh. Never gave them a chance.
I still hate St. Anger.
Aha. Go on…
And I think Death Magnetic is GREAT.
Good. Keep going…
There were other scattered things spread throughout that time too . . . Garage, Inc. (I think it rules)
It does rule - ok we’re almost there…
I have NEVER owned the Black Album. It’s just not a priority for me. I don’t hate it. I just don’t really connect with it too much.
Oh…so close. It is VERY worthy. Apart from the first two tracks which ruin it somewhat, it is very much classic - even that ballad that every “hardcore” fan hates is ok. It is also contains My Friend Of Misery, The Unforgiven, The God That Failed and The Struggle Within which are some of their best material.
one thing that remains constant throughout Metallica’s entire career is that when they play LIVE they are absolutely untouchable.
I know you will never agree with this - EVER - but that’s what makes Tool so darn great. As good as their studio albums are it is the live Tool experience that sets them apart from any other band on this planet. If I had a time machine and could go back to 1973 and see Led Zeppelin at Madison Square Gardens I’d STILL probably choose a Tool gig over that otherworldly experience.
But I guess you’ll never find that out for yrself, ol’ chap…
The Metallica film was pretty amazing, i loved it. Load and Reload and S&M are still crap though, St Anger is ok, everything else is great.
*Oh, and Iron Man 3 was shite too.
J, did you get to see it in the theatre or only on a home set?
Why would anyone waste their time with S&M when Apocalyptica does that shit a gazillion times better?

I watched a pirate copy at home, with a few magic mushrooms. It was amaaaaazing! I watched it again a week later just to make sure i wasn’t hallucinating that it’d been so good, it was great 2nd time round too [:)] I’m gonna grab the blu ray when i get a chance, the final scene was fantastic, the 4 of them playing Orion (spoiler) with the kid watching them. It was just so well made, the camera work was amazing. I wish there had been a bit more of the narrative as well, i think it could have stood up to being an hour longer, with more concert footage as well. Great film, it sounded like it’d be a total folly, Metallica doing something so weird, but was actually a triumph, unlike S&M and Lulu.
NICE! I’m glad to see I’m not the only one that enjoyed this flick.
At the theatre I saw it at I went out to the lobby to speak with the management after about 15 minutes of play to complain that it wasn’t loud enough. They obliged and turned it up a few notches.
It still wasn’t loud enough so I went back again after some time and told them we could barely hear it and to just crank it up. She kind of shook her head as the other guy laughed, “Yeah, it’s never LOUD enough for everyone in the Metallica theatre. I’ll see what we can do. We can’t go much higher because it’ll blow the speakers.”
When I came back the second time and the sound got a very noticeable boost during one of the songs I got quite a cheer from the audience.
Haha, excellent, i’m sure it must have been amazing seeing it in the cinema. Oh, i was really impressed with it, i love Pink Floyd: The Wall and stuff like that, anything that combines a bit of a weird story/visuals with music i love is always of interest. It did the impossible and made the whole band actually seem cool. I loved Hetfield’s car at the start, with flames shooting out the exhausts. I’ve been liking Hetfield a lot more recently between this and the Guitar Centre video i saw. Actually, here it is.

Here’s the Hammett one, slightly less cool.
the final scene was fantastic, the 4 of them playing Orion (spoiler) with the kid watching them.
It was a nice touch but I thought it fell way short of “fantastic”.
Overall a decent enough film. I was a bit surprised. Bought it on blu ray having never bothered at the cinema. At first I thought I’d regret buying the thing - as Peligro pointed out it’s fairly pricey. But it more than met my expectations with its brash and bold visual style and flashy pyrotechnics. The live version of Master Of Puppets completely blew me away. I guess they’ve still got it in them.
But the story? Yeah I could have done without that to an extent as it pretty much went nowhere.

Maybe you had to have magic mushrooms for the full effect [:)]
It was better than I thought it would be. At times it was very good, other times it was as cheesey as I had feared. I’d give it a high 6 out of 10.
One surprising thing, the film was a flop. A huge flop at the box office. i was always of the opinion that this thing was huge. Or maybe they just spent millions advertising the film and so it just gave the impression that it was doing well.
But no, it was a flop:
Maybe cinema goers were to busy watching the “genius” films of M Night Shamalamadingdong?
And that’s why you had to pay $40 for the bluray.
I never saw it advertised, truth be told. the only reason I know about this thing is because of this board. I still have no desire to watch it, let alone throw down 40 dollars on a copy of it.

You can get it from $10.89 on Amazon, it’s well worth it.
Why would anyone waste their time with S&M when Apocalyptica does that shit a gazillion times better?
because of No Leaf Clover.
that song is fucking deadly.

Still no need for S&M

RAD!
but i mean, this is like 10 years after the fact. to be fair.
but still…
RAD.
[EDIT] upon closer inspection… shit… James’ voice sounds WAY better on S&M then it does here…
[:)]
I’m too much of a shit talker, I actually like the symphony on S&M and I kick Metallica out of the sound whenever I put that DVD on. That was the main reason I bought the DVD. I didn’t bother with the CD cause it didn’t have that symphony only option.
I have no interest in watching this however…I did read a very positive review for the film somewhere.
