So Marilyn Manson did a cover of "Stigmata"

This guy, am I right?

You are right.

Big Manson fan and apologist but this kind of blows. I remember reading he was doing this and just had to ask why, because it’s not like there’s any way he can adapt it to his style without it already sounding similar to the original and/or something he’s already done. Puzzled as to why he’s doing this now and not decades ago, too.

He should stick to darkening up pop songs. His cover of “You’re So Vain” from only just a few years ago still gets a lot of plays for me. If it’s already dark and heavy then what’s the point of retreading that?

This is pretty boring and unecessary, he ususally has good covers. I still buy all of Manson’s stuff

Yeah, unnecessary sums it up pretty well…

Surgical Meth Machine could cover Stigmata and come up with something more distinct from the original.

Not impressed.

Their version of Sweet Dreams is one of the best covers of all time in my book. He completely gutted the song and re-did it from a different point of view.

Unfortunately that’s not the case with their other covers. Literally they all sound just like the original, only re-performed by Manson and his band. It just seems like a cash grab rather than an artistic statement.

Sweet Dreams cover doesn’t hold a candle to their I Put a Spell on You

Yeah, not good.
It’s a boring version. Because it’s on a movie soundtrack and a weak cover it reminded me of the mediocre cover of Nick Cave’s red right hand in bellboy 2 (I don’t know who did it, but it sucks).

Hmmm, why don’t we take a great song and use a cover that’s soooooo much worse in our soundtrack? Sounds like a good idea, right? I wonder how many people were involved in the decision making process who said: “Yes, this.”

Puffy Brian sings karaoke Stigmata. The music sounds like ministry could be playing it, but the vocals… the vocals are so bad. I agree with whoever said he needed to change it up. Maybe he coulda gone acoustic or turned it into a slow ballad kinda “something i can never have” esque. Instead its just marilyn singing along with his favorite tunes… [:|]

too close to the original.

and speaking of stigmata. i think one of the best versions of this song is from the “Necronomicon”, with the Fuck x50, ending.

Karaoke is exactly accurate.

You can just see the graphic that says ‘“Stigmata” in the style of Ministry’ and then shows graphics of flowers and Asian cities behind the lyrics.

I really like the MM cover of “Down In The Park” by Gary Numan.

Just got back from seeing ATOMIC BLONDE and lo and behold there’s already a thread about this. Really disappointed they used a cover since the entire movie uses 80’s originals and this one stuck out like a sore thumb. There are two other 80’s covers, but at least they played their originals first.

Cynical asshole me wondered if Al J. asked for too much money for the original or couldn’t bear the thought of the “Book Club” getting any more money. Maybe the filmmakers budget ran out for music licensing and figured nobody would know the difference with a by-the-numbers cover lesser known 80’s song (in context with the rest of the soundtrack anyway).

The guy who directed this movie is really good friends with Marilyn. That’s why Marilyn is all over the John Wick soundtrack too.

Haha this fucking sucks. You couldn’t even be arsed to emulate all the production effects from 30 fucking years ago? Come on man.

Yeah, I just listened.
It wasn’t bad or good.
It was just . . . . unnecessary.

Like someone else said, it was Ministry karaoke for an aging turd bag.

I couldnt help but giggle at him trying to emulate Jourgensens growling HAHA!

Grade A diarrhea.

But then again Ministry’s not the easiest band to cover. Jourgensen’s vocals are elite level vocality. You’re gonna sound stupid trying to emulate Al’s delivery.

I’m a huge fan of both acts and even I was like…what…why?

I agree, it seems decades late and unnecessary.

Vocals are a drunk one take wonder.

This would have been more at home on an old Spooky Kids demo…

I don’t think they really have much in common anymore.
Manson’s found his own swagger in my opinion.

The band was tight and pretty awesome all the way from the initial Spooky Kids demos until the Holy Wood album.

I like some of the post Holy Wood material, but to me they are solo albums from the singer Marilyn Manson. Definitely not band efforts, and it shows.
