Aggro Dr1ft by Harmony Korine
Fucking strange movie…if you can even call it a movie…the whole thing is filmed through a thermal lens…totally hallucinogenic nightmare… Some very funny moments also… regardless of what you think of it,there is nothing else like it…
I never liked this dude. His first movie, Kids, was so low effort it just really put me off, and then gummo was even worse. Just like an exploitive carnival sideshow.
I saw spring breakers and that was stupid too, but thankfully it was just normal stupid.
About 10-15 years ago I watched an interview with him and he was this smug, pretentious, asshole, rich kid. Talking about how everyone knew he was gonna be something when he was in high school and it’s only right that rich people who appreciate art fund his work… ugh, fuck that dirtbag!
I didn’t care for Kids, but in fairness he only wrote it. He didn’t direct it. I absolutely love Gummo and think it’s one of the funniest movies I’ve ever seen. Julien Donkey Boy is good, but difficult to watch. Trash Humpers is unwatchable, but I really enjoyed Spring Breakers. The Beach Bum was funny, but there was entirely too much awful Jimmy Buffet music. I doubt I’ll watch this new one, as even the stills I’ve seen give me a headache. Haha.
I’m pretty sure there was no script for gummo. he just set the camera down and filmed the locals.
That is true. There are only like 5 real actors in the movie, the rest were locals that were recruited. As for no script, we call that cinema verite.

That definitely seems exploitive. I’d love to know how much Korine made and how much he paid his performers for just being themselves.
I’m sure they made scale and I doubt anyone got rich making a movie that 6 to 12 people have seen.
If Gunnar still posted here, I know he would back me up on this one. Haha.

Ok, I take it all back.
according to IMDB budget was 1.3 Million and it grossed 116,000
LOL
Although, still I wonder how much Korine paid himself outta that 1.3 budget.
Well Korine is definitely an acquired taste but I like what he does…his stuff just appeals to me in some strange way…he doesn’t even consider this a film, really…it’s just some hallucinogenic experimental art project…this one is definitely a love it or hate it type of thing…I loved it but would definitely understand it not being someone’s cup of tea …

Kids was so so. Not a film I hated but not a film I’d ever watch again. Same with Gummo, however I do like it way more than Kids. Spring Breakers was better than I thought it would be. The only film of Koriine’s that I could arguably revisit more than once. The Beach Bum was boring. Just plain old boring. The very least he could have done was make it super, over the top weird and wacky. But he didn’t even do that. He just filmed some highly unlikeable people for an hour and a half and then called it a day. I read some early reviews and they raved about Martin Lawrence’s character and how funny he was. For the record he wasn’t funny at all. I usually like Jonah Hill but he was shithouse in that film.
Apparently Korine funds his art films by doing music videos for artists like Rhianna etc.
I thought Spring Breakers was amazing. Like a fever dream in movie form.

I watched Sinister. The horror flick starring Ethan Hawke.
Was told it was terrifying. Wasn’t even close. At best it was a rainy Saturday afternoon flick. Hard to believe folks found this film engaging, let alone scary.
Seen better no name, no budget flicks on Amazon Prime.
I give a 3.5 out of 10.
Furiosa was pretty fucking fantastic.

I’ve heard overwhelmingly great praise…gonna see it next weekend…
I’m going tomorrow night (I would have seen it on Thursday but I got waylaid by a terrible UTI; my bladder felt like it was made of concrete) and I expect good things. I’m a little dismayed at the box office numbers – it did NOT do well, despite fan adoration and critical praise, and that could spell problems for the continuation of the franchise.
It was an overall bad box office weekend…I think Furiosa barely edged out Garfield…
Unfortunately it was the worst Memorial Day weekend in decades. Sad because I plan to see Furiosa tomorrow and always want Miller’s Mad Max movies to be hits
Awaiting “Alien: Romulus” in August

Hoping they get it right.

Yeah, but the soundtrack is gold.
I didn’t think anybody but me had ever listened to Aghast, but there it was in that movie.
I saw Furiosa last night and wasn’t impressed. I can’t put my finger on it, honestly. Maybe too much story and not enough explosions. After the frenetic energy of “Fury Road,” a movie with a solid back story doesn’t feel appropriate. Should’ve been a streaming mini-series, honestly.
Full disclosure: I have restless leg syndrome, combined with occasional symptoms in my arms. (This is probably because of all the psych meds I’ve been on for 30 years, but I’m not going to sit still for a doctor long enough to find out.) Last night was BAD. So maybe that was why I didn’t like it too much.
