Seen any good movies lately?

I root for the “bad guys” in “Karate Kid” too.
First off, Johnny is totally badass.
But second . . . Daniel-san is a little bitch and pretty much deserved every ass-whipping he ever got. The bastard really asked for it.

Anyway, about that screening you went to, Eureka . . . you mentioned some trivia portion at the end. Was this a little contest to see who is the best KK fan or was there someone from the movie hosting a Q&A or something?

Sounds rad either way. I love that flick.

If you get a question right, they give you a cupcake. When I saw The Shining at this place, they passed out REDRUM which may have been Red Velvet. This time we got Wax On Wax Off (2 small chocolate ones). The question I answered had something to do with The Next Karate Kid and it makes me quite happy that the film we would all like to forget finally has a purpose.

But back to the original film, I actually wanted my hair like Bobby (aka the guy that nearly put Daniel out of commission) when I was a kid. Johnny was also a good sport in the end, after taking that crane kick to the face. Part 3 was ridiculous with the torment of Daniel San. I still live by the Quicksilver Method to this day.

Sounds awesome.

There was some old theatre in Sacramento that we used to see special screenings at. I dressed up for the Superfly showing by wearing a leather suede vest, turtleneck, and a porn mustache.

And there was some crappy gore film we went to see that said on the flier “dress to KILL and save $2” . . . my buddy had Halloween makeup left over and on the drive over I tried to put on corpsepaint but I was so high that I eventually just ended up with my face completely blackened and looking like Ted Danson/ Al Jolson by the time we got there.

Watched:

The Gunman…Sean Penn it was okay…wouldn’t really recommend it.
Jurassic World. Really enjoyed it.
Get Hard. Funny. I liked it!

Gunnar, for some reason I picture you looking like Ted Danson in that movie with Macaulay Culkin…

Gunnar, for some reason I picture you looking like Ted Danson in that movie with Macaulay Culkin…

I originally pictured him as looking like Gilbert’s best friend in What’s Eating Gilbert Grape.

Now watching:

The Imitation Game

Waaaay better than I’d imagined it would be.

8/10

The other day I watched a documentary on Ornette Coleman, “Made in America,” from '83 or so.

I swear, that movie is like the anti-“Fix.” The whole thing radiates positivity, enthusiasm, intellectual curiosity, and determination to enjoy life. Pretty rare for a music doc of any genre, I recommend it for anyone sick of the usual “oh, we started doing dust, and then everything went out the window” type of musician confessional.

Also one of the better films out there to feature a William Burroughs ‘bit role.’

A Deadly Adoption - Will Ferrell, total crap, turned it off.
Get Hard - Will Ferrell, pretty funny.
Homefront - Jason Statham, very good, written by Stallone. Lots of good violence [:)]
Spy - Melissa McCarthy, Jude Law, Statham - actually really funny, really liked it.

I’ve seen loads of films recently, but can’t really remember many of them. Watched Mad Mad Fury Road again a couple of times recently too, still as great as it was the first time.

The 2013 Evil Dead remake.
Brutally gory and visceral, but also not any fun at all.

So I saw Terminator: Genisys last night and I pretty much agree with what acid cripple said about good action, the plot twist being lame, and Sarah Connor being lame as well. Terminator now has their equivalent of X-Men: Days of Future Past, and they also left room for a sequel. The whole time I was watching, I kept thinking the John Connor was also the leader of the Klean Kut Kids, but disappointed to find out that they’re not the same guy. Jason Clarke, while not a bad actor, couldn’t successfully lip synch his way through an Agent Orange song (with a hairdo akin to 80’s hair metal) if his life depended on it. I also kept thinking the new Sarah was also the hot terminator from The Sarah Connor Chronicals and how much the new Kyle Reese looks like this one porn star I used to see a lot of back in the early 00’s.

You know, that actually would’ve made a better film with the people I listed over those in the film.

Also, Arnold is more of a side character now, and the decision to play up the dynamic of Sarah and Kyle not getting along at first from the first film to 11 was rather hard to watch.

Ever since i was a kid i have hated Sarah Connor. Hated her! Especially in T2, being a “strong woman” is no excuse for being an annoying fuckwit who’s rude to everyone. I was always on Skynet’s side as far as she’s concerned.

Apparently Paramount have given the go-ahead to 2 more Terminators in this series no matter how this one does.

Everyone like funny stuff, hijinks, and blowing up robots.

I too was always a big Survival Research Laboratories fan…

My wife and I are gonna double date with my friend Joe and his wife on Saturday. We’re all going to see “Magic Mike XXL” together.

Then Joe and I are going down to join Grmpysmrf to see DANZIG.

I’m really not sure what, of all this, is the gayest part . . .

Creed: watched it a couple of times, loved it. Yet another Rocky film might put some people off and it does sound kinda silly - Rocky trains the illegitimate son of Apollo Creed - but it turned out to be uplifting and emotional and Stallone is fantastic, one of his very best performances.

The Hateful Eight: the new Tarantino film, normally i love his stuff but i didn’t like this one at all. Totally gratuitous overuse of the N-word, and if it bothers me it must be pretty bad. I normally don’t care about that sort of thing, but it’s so omnipresent that it feels like he’s revelling in it and it doesn’t feel like much fun any more. The characters are all arseholes too. Some good acting but it’s much too long and full of its own self-importance.

Mad Max: Fury Road - watched it yet again, still great.

Bone Tomahawk: another Kurt Russell western, as underwhelming as The Hateful Eight but only about half the length, which is good. Well-made but boring and kinda arty, cannibals kidnap some guy’s wife and some cowboy dudes try to track them down. Sounds much better than it actually is, believe me.

Star Wars: The Force Awakens: phenomenal. Loved it.

Die Hard: the original and still the best. I needed something impressive and Christmas-y to follow up Star Wars with, and this was it.

Spectre: good stuff, typical 007.

I also watched a few tv shows too, mostly for the 2nd time because i was at my parents’ house and my dad was looking for good stuff to watch.

Marvel’s Daredevil Series 1: Netflix, amazing show, watched for the second time, this time with my dad, who has now developed a taste for watching a full tv series back to back. Great action and great acting, especially from Vincent D’Onofrio (Private Pyle from Full Metal Jacket) as Wilson Fisk aka The Kingpin.

Marvel’s Jessica Jones Series 1: Another Netflix show, brilliant stuff, possibly even better than Daredevil and with Marvel’s best screen villain yet, played by David Tennant from Doctor Who.

Narcos Series 1: Netflix again, was watching it for the 2nd time. It’s about the rise of Pablo Escobar, who’s played by the main actor from the great Elite Squad movies, Wagner Moura. My dad loved it. Brilliant and very brutal.

Bosch Series 1: Amazon detective series, was watching it for the 2nd time too, another thumbs up from my dad.

Ash vs Evil Dead: very funny, Bruce Campbell is really good.

I’ve been watching loads of stuff recently, some of it terrible, some of it great, i can’t even remember most of it to be honest, this is just the stuff i could recall.

Completely disagree about The Hateful Eight…I saw it last night in 70 mm and loved every single second of it…beautifully shot with incredible attention to detail…I though it had some brilliant comedic moments also…and yeah, all the characters are bastards…I mean it’s called the Hateful Eight hahaha…I thought it was an epic masterpiece and I am glad I saw it in 70mm…they gave out cool little souveneir programs also…had a blast last night…

Ash vs Evil Dead might be the most fun I have ever had watching a tv show…so much greatness…
