Seen any good movies lately?

Crank 2 : High Voltage
Amazingly over the top rediculous. Don’t expect a serious movie. Funny, stylishly hyperactive and the soundtrack from mike patton realy makes the movie flow at SUCH a better pace then it would have without it.

“Control.” Was pretty dope.

Crank 2 : High Voltage

I was gonna catch this in the theaters but i missed it. still may pick it up on bluray. the first one was great!

Trailer for the Herzog/Lynch collab ‘My Son My Son, What Have Ye Done’:

It was inevitable with both Herzog + Lynch that they would work a midget into the film. Looking forward to this.

Also trailer for ‘The Road’ looks better than the first version I saw:

Finally got around to watching Watchmen last night. Didn’t think much of it at all in the beginning but as it progressed it did get marginally better. Still, not really my kind of film though. Just sort of meanders for the most part…and the characters are all so dull, I never really cared for any sort of conclusion. It was all so muddled and thrown together.

Also saw the Last House On The Left remake.

Needless to say it was awful in every way imaginable.

The book is (as usual) better.
And has a better ending, too.

Just saw a movie called “murder Party” i think it was called. half horror movie, half indie comedy. makes fun of nyc artsie snobs. good movie to ren and alot of ice blood to make up for the comedy at the end

The Last House on the Left remake
Meh… okay I suppose if you have absolutely nothing else going on on a friday night .

I just had the misfortune of sitting through land of the lost (the new remake) terrible movie… well not terrible… it had about 2 funny scenes, both with matt lauer of all people, one at trhe end and one at the beginning. Now i sit through “year zero” then it’s “drag me to hell”. I usually Love it when netflix sends 3 movies at once

‘District 9’: Decent alien flick set in South Africa (much appreciated because of their accents when they say “FFFFFFFFFOOK”). Got a bit wobbly in the last 20 mins but a solid movie over all.

‘Zombieland’: Desperately shite zombie film. Dreadful writing, the actors looked like they didnt want to be there. Woody Harrelson was as cool as ever but he just seemed pissed off he was there.

‘Goodbye Uncle Tom/Addio Zio Tom’: Wow, what can I say? Lets just say I won’t forget it. A crazy, pseudo-documentary that depicts the ill treatment slaves endured before abolition. It was misinterpreted by some when it came out and was labelled one of the most racist films ever made. Much of it is certainly hard to watch but it is beautifully shot. Really well made, despite the harsh treatment the cast seem to get.

‘Katalin Varga’ a very grim but brilliantly made Romanian/Hungarian film. Supposedly it was made on £25,000 which is a great achievement in itself. The film depicts a mother who goes on a search for 2 rapists who raped her 11 years ago and fathered her only son. The whole film is set in rural Romania/Hungary, the actors and cinematography are brilliant. The music and sounds are also unnerving; it creates an almost industrial noise out of rural/farmyard sounds to deadly effect. Lots to ponder over it and it certainly is not a feel good film. Essential viewing.

Went on an animation kick a few days ago. Watched Heavy Metal, Fritz the Cat, Titan A.E., and a few episodes of Aeon Flux. Yee.

On the subject of fucked-up cartoons, my all time favorite film is an incredibly demented movie called Mutant Aliens. I’ve only seen it once in my life, but it was the craziest thing I’ve seen to this day. I love Bill Plympton’s stuff, but that takes the cake. Anyone else seen this ungodly abomination?

‘A Serious Man’

Quite an interesting film. Nothing much happens in it. The places are really grim and austere (1970s). Many funny moments and a now trademark Coen brothers sudden ending. Worth seeing. Probably enjoy it more if you’re Jewish, or maybe not.

Speaking of Coen bros. I just saw Burn After Reading… wasn’t bad, completely different to what I was expecting.

Malkovich’s character annoyed me though… maybe that was the point.

Watched “Big Man Japan” a week or so ago with one of the homies. It’s basically an absurd send-up of pretty much everything Godzilla/Rodan/Ultraman/Power Rangers/etc. out there with what is the greatest twist ending ever in the history of the motion picture.

As for wretched cinema, go see “Ninja Assassins.” Jesus Christ, I want a copy of that on audio, as pretty much everything in the movie can come off as the best innuendo ever.

Big Man Japan was a lot of fun. That ending is really out there. Moon with Sam Rockwell is the best film I’ve seen in awhile, good hard sci-fi theme. That one was directed by Duncan Bowie, David’s son.

Last night I watched The Wrestler with Mickey Rourke, a pretty decent flick with good performances. It is not a happy film by any means. I did not know it was directed by Darren Aronofsky with a soundtrack by his frequent collaborator PWEI’s Clint Mansell.

I think The Wrestler is Aronofsky’s best film by far.

+1

One of the best films of the decade for me. I smell a top 10 best films of the 00s coming on.

I really hope to getting around to watching Raise the Red Lantern later today. I watched the first minute of it and was hooked already but had to stop it the other day.

I’d love to see Red Cliff, whether it’s the shortened Western version or the 4 hour Asian version. That movie looks AWESOME.

Red Cliff is excellent, very surprising historical film from the normally contemporary John Woo. It is like watching a Dynasty Warriors game come to life, great epic action sequences. Try to catch the 4 hour version, it was split up into 2 films when I saw it months ago.

Seven Swords is also good, a bit more wire-fu fantasy, but I love stuff like that too.
