Saw Adrian Sherwood Live On Friday Night...

Saw Adrian Sherwood live here in Edinburgh @ Voodoo Rooms on Friday and he was fucking AWESOME!

Heavy Dub Reggae set by Adrian at the controls was the ingrediants of the evening. He had a guy with him playing live percussion and a toaster called Ghetto Priest who came on later in the set. Ghettos Priest would spit out lyrics and Adrian Sherwood went to work on them with outrageous ehco and reverb effects that went on forever. Superb set.

I’ve got a few videos on my phone so will attempt to post them on here later.

Not sure if Adrian is heading to the States on this tour but if he is try get along to one.

Sherwood is doing an album with Lee Perry at the moment which will be out soon.

I’m sure most here know who the man is but if not…he produced Ministry’s Twitch and produced and mixed stuff for people ranging from Skinny Puppy, NIN and Depeche Mode through to Sinead O’Connor, Lee Perry and a shitload of others. He is a Jedi on the controls.

i’m pissin’ the pants right now.
and lee scratch perry is high on the list of those never seen and why not? not around at the time etc.
thanks.

Lee Perry still tours here in the UK and Europe. I’ve seen him probably about 3 or 4 times over the last 6 years. Once was with Mad Professor and the other times was him with a band. I remember the Mad Professor gig as Mad Professor did a devastatingly brutally loud Dub set then turned the volume right down when Perry did his set…the last time I saw Perry (a few months back) I was rather surprised as his band was very fucking loud. At over 70 something the man is still rockin.

Adrian was amazing. Alway has been and always will be.

give perry some robes, man. toss 'em onstage. kinda like james brown. the guy won’t quit and why would we want that.
sherwood has emerged from the woodwork, so to speak. awesome.

Oh Sherwood’s always been there…

Have you heard his last album “Becoming A Cliche”?That’s got some great shit on it…including a duet with Sherwood’s young daughter & Lee Perry! There’s a double disc of that album which features Dubbing A Cliche as well as the album.

Sounds awesome! Sherwood is a genius and I’d love to see him live. He always comes across like a cool guy in interviews too, very grounded.

I would give any, anything, anything to see Perry, Sherwood and Richard H. Kirk collaborate on…something Dub-related!

If Al wants to gain ANY respectability back (hah!), he’d drop the tired dumbed-down hillbilly/grandpa/anti-Bush schtick and collaborate with any of the above individuals pronoto.

Al keeps saying he wants closure for all of his side projects, so maybe he’ll call up RHK for a new Acid Horse album?

Has Kirk and Sherwood ever worked together? I used to be a huge fan of the Cabs and I don’t recall it happening, but maybe a remix somewhere?

I don’t recall any collaborations between Kirk & Sherwood. Kirk’s worked with Al, and Al’s worked with Sherwood but I’ve never known of anything of Kirk + Sherwood. It would be cool, though!

On a related note, the first new music from “Cabaret Voltaire” (still Kirk solo) is a pretty cool remix project that might be suggesting some new CV materialin the future:

Also of note for fans of the Cabbers:

Production & new vox from Mallinder on a track with Billie Ray Martin. Appears she’s doing a series of covers of CV tunes from the Crackdown album:

Wow, didn’t see that coming… Didn’t Kirk do a live show under the Cabaret Voltaire moniker a decade or so ago? I could be mis-remembering. I don’t know how I feel about CV becoming another of Kirk’s many solo projects so I hope Mal comes back, even if only in a support role.

The best era for CV was the Kirk/Mallinder/Watson trio.

Sherwood was responsible for a great deal of my favorite albums, so I owe it to myself to see the guy. Great news.

Has Kirk and Sherwood ever worked together? I used to be a huge fan of the Cabs and I don’t recall it happening, but maybe a remix somewhere?

Sherwood produced most of the album Code in um '87 and some remixes for the cabs (don’t argue and here to go). one of the rare times they used a “name” producer.

Sounds like a kick-ass show Toots. Sherwood is definitely the man. Best dub music ever played by a cracka, IMO.

I’ll definitely check him out if he tours the states.

Richard H Kirk did a pretty cool album with a guy called Peter Hope called “Hoodoo Talk”. Hope’s vocals sound like Tom Waits having a nervous breakdown…I thought his vocals were great and one song in particular “Cop Out” was slammin!

Here’s a few videos of Adrian Dubbing shit up!

I remember the “Don’t Argue” remixes now that you mention them. Pretty good stuff.

That Peter Hope & Richard H. Kirk album scared the hell out of me when I was 15. Good dark stuff.

DAMN, how did I forget about Code? Well, actually, I’m not surprised as that is the one CV album I do not own and from what I consider to definitely be their weakest period (IMHO). The only song I like from that era is “Hey Hey” and that’s a b-side.

But if you think about it, a non-Mal CV wouldn’t be that bad…hell, he had basically nothing whatsoever to do with that final trio of albums they released on Insinct (International Language, Plasticity, and the Conversation). Those were essentially Kirk solo affairs released under the CV banner and they were all superb efforts. Not sure if Mal had any hand in the writing/programming/production on those songs but none of them featured any vocals whatsoever.

Agreed that the best era for the Cabs was late 70s-early 80s. Aside from the Crackdown album, I think they sort of stumbled through the 80s trying to find their footing after Watson left…then they did some fantastic but overlooked material from '90-'94 (I consider Body & Soul + Groovy Laidback & Nasty guilty pleasures) and then broke up.

I agree that the last three CV releases were essentially Kirk solo and they were darned good but that was before he had dozens of solo identities out there. What is going to make CV distinct from Electronic Eye or Vasco Demento or Al Jabr, etc. etc. etc.? I’d rather CV remain “pure” (or as pure as any project that released “Groovy Laid Back and Nasty” can be). Not that I wouldn’t pick up new material… Let’s just hope that the covers aren’t don’t by Kirk on his Microsoft Photosuite ala all his other recent releases.

Actually speaking of his recent stuff have you listened to the first Vasco De Mento? It’s really really good stuff. I think some of his best work in ages. I’m curious to hear his two new ones too.

He remixed some New Zealand group recently under the CV moniker didn’t he??? Maybe you’ve already mentioned it in this thread but I remember a few months back reading a review about a new album under the CV moniker which was a remix of some group from NZ???
