Saw Adrian Sherwood Live On Friday Night...

Meh I liked the cabs better after watson left, all their quirky takes on pop music were pretty cool. Code is one of my favourite albums by them (along with C,S & the arm of the lord, microphonies and the crackdown), followed by the conversation which is the pinnacle imo especially disc 2. groovy laidback and nasty was a good house record, and Body and Soul was pretty cool for vocal techno/bleep house…

anyway yeah Kirk resurrected the CV moniker recently for the release Kora! Kora! Kora! the cabaret voltaire versions. out now.

also check out if you like vasco, Dollars and Cents: unabridged soundtrack to future movie…the best use of radio talk show preachers backs with lots of ethnic percussion and vocals has a really creepy Missionary vibe to it. it’s itunes only though iirc. also a new rich h kirk 18 minute track Neuroscience ep - in teh vein of “knowledge through science” or maybe more “Darkness at noon”

I’ll have to check that out, it sounds pretty cool. Also welcome aboard Simon [:)]

Yup, thanks for the RHK stuff on iTunes reminder.

Before I proceed, let me reiterate that I detest iTunes and everything about it. I bought an iPod only because it’s the only damn hard drive-based mp3 player out there (if I am going to fumble with a mp3 player I want huge capacity for ALL my songs in high bitrate) but I still detest having to fiddle with iTunes. I wish I could just drag & drop my files onto the iPod as a removable drive.

Anyway, with that out of the way, I can count on one hand the albums I’ve bought on iTunes but I have bought all of the RHK iTunes-exclusive stuff. Aside from the horrrid artwork, it’s all great, especially Vasco, the most recent Sandoz stuff (naturally) and Neuroscience.

I do wish that Kirk at least offered the option to purchase actual CDs of the stuff on his website for us collectors, but I guess it’s no major loss seeing as how crummy the artwork on these recent releases has been!
I’d also like to see him selling his wares DRM-free and as straight-up MP3s at E-Music or Amazon.

As far as the older CV stuff goes, yeah the Conversation’s 2nd disc is a fantastic long ambient track like Green Death said. The Conform to Deform box set from '01 is superb and has a surprisingly fantastic live set from '90 of the Groovy era material. Another good one is the semi-unplugged live BBC recordings “Radiation” (it’s been released and rereleased about 3 times with different artwork). It’s got a couple of exceedingly rare CV songs on it such as Doom Zoom and You Like to Torment Me that I’ve never heard anywhere else.

Also, the the rare Body & Soul album + the Percussion Force & Colours EPs (all from '91!) shouldn’t be overlooked by anyone who likes their later stuff. These works are still housey but darker and much bleepier than the Groovy material. Along with the Technology remake project album they nicely bridge the gap between Groovy and the final three instrumental albums.

Cool, I’m going to download “Dollars and Cents” once I get my new debit card in the mail (until then, no online downloading for me).

I remember loving the “colours” ep. Wish I hadn’t sold it. I wasn’t a big fan of “Western Re-works”, the remixes lacked the punch of the originals.

Anyone remember the Oakenfold remix of “Body & Soul”? I hadn’t realized Oakie Dokie did remixes in the early 90s until I pulled that old single out again a few years back. Also, speaking of remixes the Tiga remix of “Nag Nag Nag” was incredible. I have it on vinyl but would love a full length MP3 but Mute’s not selling it…
