that’s basically what it is gunnar, black friday for music nerds. what’s worse is that there’s actually ANOTHER record store day on Black Friday too…that’s more of a recent thing. a few years ago when I was into vinyl I would go to record store day if they had something I wanted but I eventually lost interest. I agree that there’s something cool about going to an indie shop, chatting it up with the owners/employees/other customers. rarely had that happen in the big name stores.
I guess as I get older, the “social aspect” of the indie record store becomes more treasured to me. It’s kind of an event for me to go down to the store, chat it up with the proprietors or employees, share some memories and talk about different bands and such.
I maybe only buy one CD or so when I go, and sometimes that’s only out of a feeling of responsibility that I need to support this dying breed of small business.
I’m interested in the book, and the ‘rarities’ c.d, but not at that cost. Especially considering that I ALREADY have the rest.
I remember the WaxTrax weekend was the same as RSD, and my having to wait in a VERY long line to buy my non-rsd Devo album.
I almost wish that RSD was just on random unaanounced days, so that people that happened to be in the store had first dibs, as opposed to what it is.
Sounds interesting…I’m thinking about buying it.

That’s a pretty rad idea. Unexecutable in today’s era of instant dissemination of info, but cool, nonetheless.
When is this so-called Record Store Day anyway?
first of all, thanks for the info.
i am guessing this comes off as wax trax thing? or it comes from al wanting to release his “wall full of tapes” (his actual quote from some interview) of the early days?
because the 3 revco albums were “remastered” and re-released in 2004, i guess kind of same for the most of “original recordings” (early trax), and other side-project stuff (side trax).
not to mention that farily recently ‘twelve inch singles’ was re-released, expanding ‘early trax’, which in itself was basically ‘twelve inch singles’ expanded, omg what a loop!
this is better than rehashing same 3 cover albums with slight changes for sure, but i would really like to see the tracklist of this massive release.
(i am hoping the “live lp” is not sourced from bootleg, that would be a funny)
If this is a real thing (and I feel weird about speculating on news that’s too good to be true from a new poster with “fake” in his name), I would guess that the unreleased stuff would probably get a standalone release shortly after RSD. At least a digital release. It would be too good for them to only sell in limited quantities.
I’ll keep you as apprised of this as I am as I get info.
I’m amused as hell that anyone thinks it’s suspect, but then again I am hiding behind a new user name.
I copied the data straight from the list I got today, I kept the label & catalogue # out, though. The label’s easy to guess, I may have easter egged a clue to the catalogue #.
I still can’t figure out why it’s called “Tray”.
I asked a moderator on the facebook WaxTrax group if I should spam this out there, but then got too excited knowing and came here.
This is confirmed as legit and is a Cleopatra release. Same team compiling it as did the 12" Singles release, so it should be high quality.

You’ll find that a lot of people here won’t believe in anything unless they can put their fingers into the hole in its side.

Or at least have it proved in Gunnar’s Court of Justice.

Sometimes these things RSD things get digital releases, sometimes they don’t. My friend that worked at a record store changed careers about six months ago, so I can’t call her and ask her to set one aside for me like I’ve done in the past.
We all know Grmpy will buy it. Maybe he can digitize the unreleased tracks for the rest of us if Cleo doesn’t see fit to sell them online.
Sinc it’s billed as the complete WT! recordings, I wonder if CD1 and 2 are essentially the new reissue of twelve inch singles.
The whole thing would appeal to me more if it were all vinyl instead of a mix.
Grimace no have money for record. Too many milkshakes he drinks (then gets sent to Milkshakeaholics Anonymous to seek help of higher power.)
Plus people in line for Record Store Day harass Grimace when he try to buy record. They call Grimace “corporate stooge” and make fun his weight problem. Grimace no like.

HOLY SHIT!!! [shocked]
29 unreleased tracks (crappy demos, remixxxes, and other near-unlistenable garbage) for $175.00
How about . . . . No.
If these are the remaining studio recordings from the 1980-1985 period, then I will be the first in line.
Grimace talks like Cookie Monster. I’m thinking his account may have been hacked.

Grimace was ‘life partner’ with Cookie before we part ways. Cookie say he “find God” one night after near-death cookie binge, then give all his money to mega-church and leave Grimace holding bag.
So, maybe bad habits of Cookie rub off on Grimace.
Cookie rub off on Grimace.
Heh.
