For the record, I’ve been seeing copies of Albini’s infamous “tour diary,” as well as his other pro-child porno screeds, for decades. Either he genuinely plugs into this horrible crap or someone’s been having a field day with him on the Internet since the days of Compuserve. And believe me, we’d have heard about it long ago if someone was putting that much work into pretending to be Steve Albini just to make some child-porno swipes at his rep.
I’ll agree the article’s timing is questionable, but I think the author’s shitty rep and the reality of Albini’s… leanings… are two different entities in this case. Albini really was a monster.
Yeah, this was something people have been talking about for a long time. I found out about it in the early 1990s because of liking Whitehouse as a band and then digging deeper into them as I began to realize the creepy sleazy angle of Peter Sotos. Yeah people are among hay of it now that Albini’s passed and maybe it was just edge lords edge lording, but there’s way more of a paper trail to this than a lot of other stuff.
