Yeah was just reading that…now Throbbing Gristle have REALLY broken up.

Died in his sleep aged 55yrs.

RIP

There goes another one of the pioneers. My condolences to his family and friends. RIP.

sad news.

Wow.
COIL will now be the soundtrack to my Thanksgiving road trip.

This is just sad RIP Peter.

WHAAAAAAAAAAAAAT??

This is truly tragic, Peter was one of my biggest musical heroes period and I loved a good portion of the music he did over the years. I was really excited to hear X-TG, which I thought would beat out the real TG as it took out the least impressive part of the band.

I haven’t been this bummed in ages about a death (probably since Dwayne Goettel). Damn, I didn’t even see this thread at first and then, once I saw it I didn’t believe the title. What a fucking shitty way to start Thanksgiving.

WHAAAAAT.

damn. industrial is literally a dying scene :(.

Wow, terrible and shocking. Awful. Stupid awful news. Very sad to hear this.

I haven’t listened to much TG but that sux another pioneer is gone. 55 is too young to die

When I listen to the first four TG records, I’m pulled right into the atmosphere. Those recordings are truly timeless. I doubt anything as innovative or incendiary as what Mr. Christopherson helped to pioneer will ever happen again in the field of experimental music. He’ll be very missed.

This one’s gonna sting for a while. Dusting off 20 Jazz Funk Greats

RIP

This is really fucked up for me personally… let me explain.

Last night, I finished rehearsal and as a ‘reward’ for finishing exams and a good rehearsal, I got out the bong and drove to the top of this massive hill out the back of my house which overlooks the eastern suburbs. It’s really picturesque, especially at night with all the lights, trees around the car, fields, etc. etc.

I put on this Coil mixtape Peligro personally put together for me. Coil were one of those bands I heard bits and pieces of, I liked what I heard, but it didn’t hit me like a tonne of bricks the same way listening to Debussy, Aphex Twin, Prokofiev, Tim Buckley etc etc did. Not because Coil was any less meritable than those bands, but mainly because my mind wasn’t open when listening to it. All I heard was sounds; I didn’t understand what was going on with the sounds and the level of detail and how it all interrelated because I didn’t give it enough time.

So, I put the Coil CD on while ripped off my tits. And it all hit me;

Christopherson, and Jhonn, were geniuses.

The level of detail, the amount of work… I am unconvinced he was musically inept or tone deaf as he and the rest of TG would have us believe. There is such a level of tonal variety and harmonic complexity, and yet it all interrelates in a way that is only apparent if you give it the time it deserves.

To know he died last night while I had that, perhaps drug induced, realisation makes it all the more poignant.

RIP Sleazy

this one in particular…

I had been in contact with him via email only a few months ago.

This is sad news.

Very sad.

I’m still waiting (in vain) for the obligatory ‘it was all a hoax’ revelation’.

Coil / TG were a huge influence on me.

Here’s a great recent interview:

Also, in July Peter posted this beautiful missive in the comments section:

Don’t worry, I’m fine, I think  but remember we are all only temporary curators of our present bodies, which will all decay, sooner or later. In a hundred years or so ALL the humans currently alive will have died. I take great comfort in knowing, with certainty, that thing that makes us special, able to enrich our own lives and those of others, will not cease when our bodies do, but will be just starting and new (and hopefully even better) adventure…
If we don’t get to meet in this Life, maybe in the next you can buy me a beer! ,-)

Sad news. I never heard Coil, but i’m a huge fan of TG. A huge talent and legend will be missed.

Sad news. I never heard Coil…

You need to rectify that.

RIP Peter.

I definitely want to now. Wouldn’t know where to begin though. Time for some TG in the meantime.

^ I think “Loves Secret Domain” is a good album to start with.
