RIP Lemmy

Eddie Trunk ‏@EddieTrunk 8m8 minutes ago

Sorry to report that I have confirmed Lemmy @myMotorhead has passed away just now at the age of 70. RIP to a true original icon of rock.

Very sad to hear, although not unexpected.

Lest we forget.

This is fucking terrible.
Day. Fucking. Ruined.

Sad news for sure.

I’m holding hope that this is bullshit.
If anyone has any links or anything, please post 'em.
Lemmy’s been declared dead several times before . . .

Ozzy and Anthrax have confirmed it.

sorry dude. Eddie Trunk is pretty reputable. all the musicians are already posting their condolences.

dude lived a hell of a life though. 70 isn’t bad for his lifestyle. funny guy.

Yeah, about 5 minutes later FB was ablaze.
Sucks. Sucks major ass.
I think I’m gonna go to the Rainbow tonight.

I kinda figured that guy would outlive me, y’know?

Considering the life he lived, i’m not that surprised, especially given his health problems in the past year, but it’s very sad news. At least he died in his home that he loved, playing the slot machine game he loved, with his family. And he toured as long as he could too, his absolute love of the music and the rock n’ roll lifestyle made him one of the most authentic, durable rock stars and icons of all time. RIP.

[:(]
Sad times.
That’s the end of an era.

Was just thinking about him the other day (christmas eve being his birthday)…and was wondering if he was making any progress in his recovery since that depressing tour from a few months ago. Didn’t expect for his departure to happen this soon, even with those very discouraging signs from Austin and elsewhere.

I dont think you even had to be into rock 'n roll to understand what a uniquely original force the guy was, and to appreciate his successful attempt at living a life with seemingly zero compromise.

The last tour wasn’t depressing. It was fucking awesome.
One or two shows got canceled and one got a short set.
That was it. 50 years of solid duty, the guy takes two sick days (and tried to muscle through one unsuccessfully).
After he got that little bump out of the way he went on to kick more ass. Even doing sets in Europe a couple weeks ago with the full BOMBER rig.

People gathered like vultures because a 70 year old man got sick. Whoopdeefuckin’doo. And then they all tried to act like Nostradamus by saying, “I don’t think he’s gonna make it much longer”.

Fuck that. For everyone saying it didn’t come as a surprise, I don’t really know if any of them are even fans. Don’t say his death wasn’t surprising when having to pull out of 2 shows became the biggest fucking news on the planet.

And now FB is ablaze. Just like when any heavyweight drops, everyone has to chime in whether they ever listened to a single song or went to a show. Suddenly everyone has something to say.

Yeah, I’m shocked.
Lemmy has been a hero and God to me for many years.
I didn’t think he’d die.
Certainly not this year.
Not fucking ever.

LEMMY FOREVER!!!

I can’t think of a hard rock or metal band that would have as much recognisability among rock, punk, or metal - extreme or otherwise - fans, or even just in popular culture. When he shows up in Airheads, everyone watching knows who he is, even if they don’t know his songs. His drive and passion for his music, and his own singular vision make him one of the all time greats not just in rock, but in all of music. Everyone knows the Motorhead logo - my dad recognised it on the t-shirt of a character in a tv show a couple of days ago - and Motorhead will live on like The Ramones, kids will always listen to them and they’ll have new generations of fans for as long as the albums stay in print, or beyond with modern technology.

I’d say Ozzy has a bit more recognition, but point taken.

True enough.

Pick me up, I’m on the way.

RIP.

Sorry, I didn’t go out there, otherwise I would have picked you up for sure (it’s actually quite a drive for me).

I figure there may be a public-type memorium type of thing (like they did a while back for Hannemann) in the next week or two and I wouldn’t want to miss that.

We’ll see . . .

Meanwhile Al is still alive…
