Yeah. Learned of cancer on 26th. Dead two days later. I’m just getting fragments as they’re shared/ released but it seems he died rather peacefully, at home, playing his video game that was given to him by The Rainbow.

I think that’s a true testament to how fucking bad ass he was. Dude decides to go to the hospital and finds out he is in the final stages of terminal cancer? Can you imagine the pain he must have been in?
Some people go to the doctor when they have the sniffles. He goes two days away from death.
I think it’s one of the greatest tragedies (but not surprising), that he never made it into the RnR Hall Of Fame. I don’t think it has much merit until he is there anyways…
Been playing his side project: “The Head Cat” all day…
Gonna move on to some heavier stuff now.
Not many musicians have melded a handful of genres together as successfully as Lemmy did. He really had a style all his own.
Many years ago I stumbled down to Duke’s Coffee Shop, when it was in West Hollywood by the Trop, for a late morning breakfast. There was only one seat available at the counter so I sat down and found myself seated next to Lemmy. After being on the road most of the summer it was a relief to chat with somebody who had no pretensions or even the slightest hint of arrogance. Very down to earth and very respectful of other artists. Too bad there aren’t more like him.
Yeah, I’ve mostly been playing the ballads.
I’m sure now that interest and buzz will reach a fever pitch we’ll see RnR Hall of Fame and other corporate monoliths start praising the guy and givibg posthumous tributes.
and to think that I figured having a 103 degree fever witht the flu would be the worst part of my week…this is devastating news…just gutted…as soon as I recover it will be Motorhead and Hawkwind the rest of the week…
Yeah, this one hurts big time.
I won’t be listening to anything but Motorhead/Lemmy the next several days as well.
Blows my mind that Philthy and Lem died within a month of each other…poor Fast Eddie…
I thought I’d posted this back in November, but I guess I’d only put it on Facebook. I still feel the same . . . .
LEMMY KILMISTER - MOTORHEAD FOREVER
Okay, I’ve been needing to say this for a while now and I’ve been putting it off for far too long, so I’m gonna give it a go finally. Back at the end of August Lemmy Kilmister, the founder, bass player, and singer for ROCK AND ROLL legends MOTORHEAD had a little bit of health trouble. He struggled through one show in Austin (No, I do NOT need anyone to post the video. YES, everyone has seen it 1000 times) and had to cut it short. And he had to fully cancel one or two gigs before or after that. Suddenly, everyone that had no business having an opinion on Lemmy or Motorhead felt the need to pipe in saying Lemmy needs to stop and quit. Some of this came from a place of concern for the guy, I suppose, but mostly it was so people could hear themselves talk and try to be part of something that they never were. Some even talked downright negative and said that it was unfair or cheating to the fans for him to not retire and others speculated that he was going to die.
My response to those people is the same now as it was then. FUCK YOU!!! Lemmy has been rocking for 50+ years (he’ll be 70 next month) and can probably count on one hand the times that he’s had to pull out of a gig. Anyone who watched the Austin video would see a man who loves his fans so much he forced himself up on stage in a near death state and still pushed out whatever he could. It just wasn’t enough to do a full set. So he pulled out of what? 2 and a half shows? All that crap talking and death stalking by so many self-absorbed jackasses, so eager to be quick and checking the metal sites to see if they could be the first to catch and share the news that Lemmy had died so they could get their 10 glory points of the day on Facebook. Fuck you all.
Guess who’s not dead right now. Lemmy fucking Kilmister, that’s who! And guess who, after a momentary stall of the tour, went right back out on the road and continued kicking ass night-after-night and is jamming right now. Lemmy. But where were all the celebrations of Lemmy’s VICTORY over death? Yeah, I didn’t see them either. So many jerks just waiting expectantly to pick over his carcass. Because nowadays it’s when someone dies that everyone suddenly claims inspiration and allegiance. Fuck that. Let’s start (or for many of us, continue) celebrating his LIFE. Don’t be a vulture on the fence. That is a pathetic and gross existence. Be a warthog in the pit instead. Put your arm around your brothers and sisters of metal! Chug a beer and do a shot of Jack before getting completely soaked in sweat and bruised from elbows and fists. If you don’t do it at a Motorhead show, do it in your garage or in your car. But just fucking do it. Motorhead is not a band for emo pussies looking for shit to cry and complain about. It’s a band of hope and inspiration that inspires us to party our asses off, stand up to the man, and squeeze every drop of greatness out of our short time here.
Lemmy is on the road right now, kicking ass and rocking the balls off of people that LOVE him. We would NEVER tell him to retire or to slow down. We tell him to do what he wants to do because that is the only thing he’ll ever do.
This is the truth of the matter and if you disagree, you are wrong. And if you want to be wrong about Lemmy, do it somewhere else, because I don’t want you wrecking another party.
Blows my mind that Philthy and Lem died within a month of each other…poor Fast Eddie…
And Mikkey Dee and Philip Campbell. They’ve had that lineup now for almost 25 years.

Yeah, for sure…I was just thinking about Eddie losing the 2 other original members within a month…
No doubt his passing affects many people across the board…
Am already noticing a common theme, particularly on the ‘metal’-related discussion boards, about how the world is going to get a lot more boring without Lemmy around.
It’s disappointing to read that, because if there’s any lesson that can be taken away from the guy’s life, it’s that you can bend the world to your will and make almost any fusion of ideas into an ‘iconic’ one with enough persistence and imagination.
Think about it - here’s a guy whose vocal style made it sound like he was being strangled even in his leaner and meaner years, who conformed to pretty much nobody’s classic image of physical beauty, who decked himself out in iron crosses and other military regalia. And almost nobody in our culture now sees any of that as bizarre…Motorhead’s image and music feel as natural as drawing breath.
So my condolences go out to those who are mourning the loss of all the old legends. But more importantly, my respect goes out to the people who will look back on Lemmy’s accomplishments and say “ok, if that guy can have a seismic impact on world culture, certainly I can get off my ass and at least try something new.”
Someone posted a meme earlier that said, “If the only Motorhead song you know is ‘Ace of Spades’, Fuck Off!”
Everyone then started trying to pull out their oversized fan-cocks by chiming in, “that’s not even the best song”, “I don’t even really like that one so much”, “the best shit is . . .”
I get the sentiment behind the message, but it actually made me think a bit. I mean, just the fact that Motorhead HAS such an iconic song that defines the band in the same way the Stones’ “Satisfaction” does, really is a testament to their level of success.
This is a band (and Lemmy in particular) that never gave two shits about what was cool or popular or relevant. Lemmy just did whatever he wanted to and Motorhead kept on being Motorhead. He could live in a sprawling mansion but he always kept his small rent-controlled apartment which was chock full of junk and close to his favorite bar (Rainbow).
They were dirty, smelly, rowdy underdogs . . . and yet the legacy they left was so huge and so widespread. 5 minutes after I saw this original RIP post the Internet was on fire with lament and tribute. I realize it’s a product of the age and technology, but I’ve not seen such an immediate reaction to any other rocker’s death. Obviously, my friend set is going to be different than my mom’s or my sister’s, but still . . .
Anyway, I love that so many people at least know SOMETHING about Lemmy or Motorhead. Fuck elitist underground bullshit. Lemmy and Motorhead should be in every elementary school text book as far as I’m concerned.
5 min video from today of Tony Iommi talking to the BBC about Lemmy:

I’m more ‘underground’ in my orientation than I am mainstream, i.e. just enjoying the phenomenon of people doing strange things that they feel compelled to do. But yeah, enough with the “EL33T” or “KVLT” or whatever other nonsensical term bad artists slap on their art in order to make all its defects seem like virtues.
There’s no point in hating something simply because it’s become the standard-bearer for a culture. It’s the equally dumb flipside of liking something merely because it goes along with social consensus; both mindsets spring from personal insecurity and fear anyway.
But anyway - echoing your post a little, the magic of Motorhead is that you can “get” their message whether you simply saw them tearing through “Ace of Spades” on “The Young Ones,” or you own the complete discography. I think any master of his / her craft should aim for that ability to say what you want to say no matter how little or how much content your audience consumes.
Why didn’t the Ministry / Motorhead 2014 tour ever happen. I seen poster art for it.
I realized that in honor of Lemmy I can’t let a 103 degree fever stop me from cranking some Motorhead…so I am sitting here shivering with cold sweats and vomiting and cranking up Orgasmatron as loud as my tube amps will let me…
Lemmy lives!!!
Lemmy blows right along with his band.
no hard feeling suckers.
dude couldn’t sing worth shit.

You have some serious issues. You obviously don’t get enough attention.
