Revco dates are up.... plus you can pay extra to meet al?

They posted the dates for the new revco tour on their website. They also got this vip pack thing for like 75 (at least that was the nyc price), you get some goodie bag, a download song and get to meet the band. Supposedly al is going to be at 4 of the shows (nyc, chicago, la and texas i think it was), so it’s implied you’ll meet al at these dates too.

Is it just me or does it seem like every band now seems to be doing this vip extra shit. I mean, it used to be if I wanted to meet the band i’d just show up early and wait by the venue or after the show, or go to a meet and greet. Occasionally you’ll get lucky and see one walking down the street (happened to me with perry ferral once) And trust me meeting bands can really really make you dislike the music afterwards if the person turns out to be a dick. I mean, you build up a person in your head, and no matter how amazingly cool this person can be, if it’s like a rock star idol type siituation, they’ll never match the person you imagined them to be in your head. So no matter what you’ll get let down to a degree… and then there’s always the ego rock star who totally makes you not even like the music after dealing with them.

anyway anybody going to any of the shows or gonna do the vip thing?

No Atlanta date, so I won’t be traveling any where else to see this. I don’t know the whole vip pack thing is like a double edged sword, on one hand it lets fans spend some time with the musicians they like, they get a goodie bag so I see no real harm. I’m sure you can still catch people on the street, at the bus ect… ect… which if they suddenly say " hey! where’s your vip pass" then you know the deal. Would I pay extra for such a service? No, but I can see how some people would enjoy it.

Nowadays with record labels trying to get a piece of t-shirt sales bands on the road have to try and recoup as much as possible, so putting money right into their hands I don’t see as a bad thing. I know its a little different when you are the label, but I digress [;)]

Well, Angie weened me off the whole VIP “goodie bag” with that lame bullshit she gave out to us on the C U la tour, which consisted of post cards and band flyers a few “exclusive” Mp3’s certainly not worth the xtra 100 bucks!

They’re passing by me when I’ll be on my honeymoon. Might’ve been able to go for free too, phooey.

was there a meet and greet involved? did the band actually take the time to talk to people or was it a rush job where they run down a line of autoraphs, take a few pics and bounce?

The only time it’s NOT stupid is when an actual VIP is involved.

A bona fide VIP, that is!

They sat at a table and rushed the line of VIPs passed them signing autographs with a handshake and perhaps a picture if you happened to have a camera.

heh… typical…
at least throbbing gristle had the decency to let a rush “meet and greet” like that be free… and they’ve got what be considered “rabid” fans as conpared to us tame ministry knucleheads

From what grmpysmrf experienced…

that VIP ‘pack’ sounds like a fucking disgrace.

‘Goodie bag?’. Fuck that. For 75 bucks. Meeting the band is a plus, but it’s not like they’re wholly inaccessible and not even all that famous, let alone infamous.

Imagine a meet and greet with GG Allin.

The goodie bag would be worth the VIP treatment alone.

Actually, probably best not to think about whatever the fuck it is GG Allin would’ve put in that ‘goodie bag’. Probably would’ve found something from ‘within’ himself to put in it… [crazy]

That’s funny, I was thinking that earlier. Most people would pay not to have a meet and greet with GG. He was a resident here for awhile staying at the equally notorious Clermont Lounge, Slack and Reverend should know where I am talking about. Some of the “ahem” strippers from the Clermont accompanied GG on stage for the Valentine’s Day 1992 show at the WreckRoom, that was a spectacle.

Please tell me about this, I’m a massive GG fan (I know, you can laugh at me)… [:)]

I wouldn’t poke fun at a fellow GG fan, although its been awhile since I’ve listened to his music. I wish I still had the flyer for the Valentine’s show it was hilarious. GG was standing there with a big paper heart that said " Be Mine" on it. [:)]

One of my friends took his girlfriend to see the show with us, and she hid under a pool table the entire time. Likewise I stayed as far away from the stage as possible. Like most GG shows it wasn’t too long about half an hour or so, but he groped the strippers, and ate a bible IIRC.

My friend Travis (former guitarist for Atlanta weirdo-band Pineal Ventana) had a t-shirt he made with a bulls-eye on it that said “Aim Here GG”. He got kicked in the chest. I skipped the show the next year which was at a dive called The Somber Reptile. It was said to be uneventful with GG claiming every kid with a mohawk was an undercover FBI agent. A while after that he was dead.

Toeknee who ran the WreckRoom and later Club 513 (the bathrooms of which were decoupaged completely with porn) was a good friend of his, which was funny because Toe is a very laid back kinda guy. My old band played lots of shows for Toe, and we even played a few GG covers back then that I had forgotten until now. Good times.

I have a fondness for GG’s early poppier stuff that was actually quite polished compared to the later stuff. That being said though, my favorite album has to be the ROIR release " Hated in the Nation". It complies a lot of his work with various bands with live bits in between. It is essential GG Allin.

well considering how most GG shows went, a post show meet and greet would be in the back of a cop car or in a jail cell…

btw, only the m+G’s w/ al are $75 the rest are $50

Back in the day in Chi Town all it took for a meet and greet with Al was a good size baga dope ! Guess Im going to the show. Still not sure why.

Well I would go if they played here as I think the new album was an improvement over the last. I skipped the Rio Grande Blood tour w/Revco and regret it, I gave my ticket to my roommate who had never seen Ministry so at least he had a good time.

New revco sounds closer to KMFDM musically i think than original revco…which is not bad cause i like KMFDM but still…

A former co-worker of mine worked at a L5P bar at that time. She said GG came in often, and was always a perfect gentlemen. She was wise enough to decline all his invitations to watch him perform, though.

Also, no Atlanta date? WTF? As one of nu-RevCo’s biggest boosters, I’m personally offended.

It’s only six hours from Atlanta to Orlando. Agreed, they could have booked Atlanta versus one of the four shows in FL.

Smart girl. I don’t regret seeing him, but it wasn’t something I wanted to repeat.

I wonder though if an Atlanta date will be added somewhere in the interim, it seems weird that they would outright skip here. We’ll just have to wait and see.

Its neat that Paul mentioned once that the 1990 show at the Masquerade was one of his favorites. That time they didn’t have the fence in front of the band, only the two tall side pieces, so lots of shenanigans happened. Terry Roberts getting fresh with a stripper onstage, Al kicking Ogre in the ass during TLORAH and knocking him out into the crowd etc…

The funniest thing of the night I remember was one of my friend’s asking Paul for his beer, without missing a beat he flipped his bass over and on the back it said EAT ME written in tape. [laugh]

Sadly that show only got a brief mention in Chris’ book.

Sounds fun. Seems like weird stuff happens frequently at the Masquerade. I saw Jarod from Chemlab get set on fire during a Pigface show. Blixa Bargeld called it “one of the dumps” when Neubauten played there.
