Reissue/Repackage

I’m talking about the 2 disc reappraisals/reissues - similar to the Beastie Boys ‘Paul’s Boutique’ deal that came out recently and those Cure reissues from a while back.

Any albums that are way overdue a remaster?

I’m going to be a cliche here (!!!) and say that ‘Land Of Rape And Honey’ is the most bleeding obvious example. A 2 disc remaster/reissue, in a crispy clean digipak with the bass volume fixed as it’s a little bit tinny. Perhaps as a ‘bonus’ they could include a live show dvd from that era.

Or not.

Some others in dire need:

Mr Bungle - Disco Volante (the ‘loudest/quietest’ record I own. There are some tracks that are barely audible and others that can be heard over the sound of a 747 taking off. Definitely needs a-fixin.)

The Smiths - Queen Is Dead

Kraftwerk - Man Machine

My Bloody Valentine - Loveless (another ‘quiet’ album)

Melvins - Bullhead (MORE BASS PLEASE!!!)

Throbbing Gristle - 20 Jazz Funk Greats

King Crimson - The Court Of the Crimson King

Earache are releasing some of their ‘classic’ back catalogues with bonus discs (anyone here checked them out yet?) so hopefully we’ll get a Streetcleaner reissue sometime.

I’d love to have Mind and Psalm remixed in the vain of FP or Darkside. I’d never noticed how trebily those Albums are until I’d heard the, in your face bass lines, boosted to optimum levels on FP and Darkside… Paul’s Lines are Beautiful and their sound should be boosted… Side note, you can clearly hear Paul’s NON influence on the trilogy; generic bass lines run all through the W discs.* “Hey, just pick the bass notes in a normal 16th note rhythm to the chords I play!” doesn’t make for awesome bass lines

*Note, I still like the W discs just cause I like the thrash metal with the samples and still utterly despise Bush, WIN WIN WIN for me! But I can appreciate the opinions of most on here who can’t stand them. I just see the Nu ministry as a differet band. Like GNR. GNR doesn’t have pretty bass lines but I still like them. Get my drift… Just a different band!

Shit, señor Peligro I get massive boners just thinking oêø 20 Jazz Funk Greats being reissued.

And yeah pretty much anything by early Ministry would make my fucking day, i would die complete.

Some “quiet” albums off the top of my head would be:

Tool: ‘Undertow’
Jane’s Addiction: ‘Ritual…’ (at least the cd I have anyway)
all of Soundgarden (a shame this is so)

Coroner - Mental Vortex
Voivod - Angel Rat
Fields Of The Nephilim - Elizium

Well…for starters:

early Bathory albums

Sepultura - Beneath The Remains

Tangerine Dream - Stratosfear

Mission Of Burma - Vs

The Pop Group - Y

Mercury Rev - Yerself Is Steam

Royal Trux - Twin Infinitives

Gun Club - Fire Of Love

Beneath The Remains has already been remastered… I have it, sounds pretty good.

the classic revco studio albums are prime example of a possible cool 2cd remasters, where cd1 would be an original album, and cd2 would be a collection of appropriate b-sides, because there are enough b-sides for every album. and i’ve said it a couple years back here too.

but lately i became dissatisfied with so called “remasters”. mostly because they all fall victim to the ongoing raging loudness war. and the squashed dynamic range is another adding factor to thin drum sound on post-psalm ministry albums. and pig, spoon and animos just need to be mixed again, because they are too fucking trebly.

all that ain’t gonna happen anyway. the ryko rereleased were quite disappointing in terms of everything. only redeeming factor was the appearance of new tracks on early trax…

Agreed.
That said, Faith No More’s “The Real Thing” and the Kate Bush back-catalog could use remasters.

All of En Esch’s solo work can fit on a single disc… A remaster/compilation of “Cheesy,” “Confidence,” and the “Some Unreleased Stuff” disc would be quite nice.

DAMN, that’d make my life.

Tangerine Dream - Stratosfear

i think they just did a shitload of reissues

Loveless was recently remastered, and Court of the Crimson King was a few years back as well.

Really?

It’s impossible to keep up with this shit!

A 2 disc remaster would have been nice for Loveless - especially if it was packaged like the recent Cure remasters. They look gorgeous.

Ditto. The powers that be need to put a bug in Paul’s ear about this one. Remastered and expanded.

Voivod - Angel Rat

Excellent choice!

Disco Volante was just re-issued on vinyl, whether or not it’s remastered I dunno. I doubt it - that mix was intentional, came out in 1995…compare it to California four years later…pretty sure that was the effect they were going for.

Kevin Shields keeps talking about that Loveless reissue for a long time, including remasters. Believe it when you see it but I bet it will happen.

And whats wrong with the 1998 issue of the Crimson album? I dig it…re-released on Island I think, or on EMI at least…good full remaster…

Personally I think they were just trying to lose the ‘jock-metal’ crowd by wearing their avant-garde allegiances on their collective sleeves. And quite rightly so.

I wonder how many people who discovered Bungle after listening to Faith No More’s ‘The Real Thing’ threw down ‘Disco Volante’ in disgust and vowed never again to touch anything remotely associated with “that Patton guy” ever again.

What happened to my hero?!? He’s cut his hair and gone all weird. Oh well, I still have the Chilli Peppers. They’ll never let me down”.

I agree with Twitch/LORAH. same with Loveless (2 disc digipack, that artwork would look yummy)

how about these?
Scorn- Vae Solis (yes the one with Broadrick)
Scorn- Colossus
Scorn- Evanescence
Godflesh- Street Cleaner
Godflesh- Pure

I’d really personally like to see all the Outkast albums up to Stankonia done this way.

Godflesh- Street Cleaner
Godflesh- Pure

SACRILIGE!!!

Leave them as they be.
