Oh my god!!!
That’s TERRIBLE.
Oh my god!!!
That’s TERRIBLE.
yea i agree. so lame.
Wow, i’ve seen bootlegs from 1991 that blow that out of the water. what’s going on? Do they just not care about the cover anymore? Hopefully they’re gonna change it before the album ships.
I think it could be a pisstake. At least I hope it is, but if it aint it could be a commentary of sorts on the immaturity and stupidity that is rife in the U.S. administration today.
Ehhh… I think Al just didn’t care so much about the artwork on this one. He probably means for the remixes to do all the speaking and not the coverwork to try and make it more “pleasing” for consumers.
At least, that’s what I’m HOPING.
Peace!

if the snippets of the tracks are as bad as this artwork, then we’re in trouble…
Rantology would’ve been a good chance to have a fan-artwork contest, but too late for that. Maybe Al watched The Rocky Horror Picture Show recently, and got inspired (or had too much wine). At least it’s not a studio album cover!

Terrible? Yes. Surprising? No.
Ministry are becoming the industrial metal Bloodhound Gang.
No…wait…even that’s being generous.
maybe they don’t give a sh*t about the artwork because, like reznor said, the CD package is not size-suited for displaying visual information like old LP’s.
If they don’t give a shit about the artwork, then why not release the album in a clear plastic cd cover with only the songtitles printed on the front?
C’mon, the artwork plays a massive role in the way an album impacts on the listener.
Maybe it’s safer to assume that, without Barker’s more…arty/intellectual approach to guide them, Ministry is now left somewhat creatively lacking. I always assumed Al was the muscle and Paul was the brain!
Al = Caveman.
Paul = Socrates
Amazing how a pair of glasses can impact people.
Uhhh… that looks like a temporary cover, to me.
And if it’s not… I’m going to blame Paul Elledge quicker than I will Al. Jesus christ! Animositisomina’s and Filth Pig’s covers were great! What the hell is this!?!
Elledge did the Psalm 69 cover too…great photographer.
C’mon, the artwork plays a massive role in the way an album impacts on the listener.
I don’t agree with you at all. I could actually give 2 shits about most album covers/artwork that I see on things. The last few albums that I’ve actually seen that really made me stand up and pay attention are (from newest to oldest) :
OTEP - Sevas Tra (2002)
Ministry - Dark Side Of The Spoon (1999)
Tool - Aenima (1995)
Obituary - Cause Of Death (1990)
aenima has very cool smokebox animated cover!
but this rantology artwork… i mean, come on, ffs…
I can appreciate good artwork, it’s sorta like using nice wrapping paper for a quality gift. I really got interested in graphic design after seeing the work of Stephen R. Gilmore all over those 80’s Nettwerk albums. I still find myself put off by bad artwork. The latest Cure album is a good example. I find myself saying “well, hopefully the music is better than the cover” when seeing art like that. I’m not saying that every great album has equally great art, but I still like the idea of nice packaging.

absolutely, i for one really like lp’s…colored vinyl, pic discs, whatever! some are nice enough to even display out of my usual lp crates. perhaps uninspired greatest hits remix albums deserve uninspired covers?
i think al said dsots was the only album cover he hated signing [laugh] - wonder if rantology will be the only cover he’ll be embarassed to sign. cmon al we want a better sleeve.
i’d imagine most embarass for al to sign is with sympathy, no?
