Rantology artwork

about dsots autographing, i think al said it was because of the nude picture of harry’s mom [laugh] j/k, i mean that nude fat woman. sorta like the inside sleeve of tool’s undertow… [shocked]

I still find myself put off by bad artwork. The latest Cure album is a good example. I find myself saying “well, hopefully the music is better than the cover” when seeing art like that. I’m not saying that every great album has equally great art, but I still like the idea of nice packaging.

I agree…artwork is important to me. But I actually liked the artwork on the new Cure shit.

As for this remix album B.S. though, I mean, come on! How hard is it to make an interesting album cover that doesn’t look like some shitty ninties kitsche bullshit.

That cover belongs on a NoFx album or some shit…

Ministry has had shitty covers in general:

  • Psalm69
  • Sphinctour
  • HOTM
  • WS
  • even Filthpig in the sense that the cover didn’t really fit with the album’s theme

Good Ones:

  • Animositisomina
  • Dark Side of the Spoon
  • In Case You Didn’t Feel Like Showing Up

So-So:

  • Twitch
  • LORAH
  • Greatest Fits
  • Mind

Fantomas’ latest release really struck me as being exceptional in terms of appearance. The album comes in a mini-calendar with drawings for each day of the month and shit. Really interesting, thematic stuff.

Definitely. Fantomas is one act that is constantly expanding into new areas, thematically speaking of course. Always keeping it real AND keeping it interesting.

Like it or not artwork is part and parcel of the whole package. It is a statement, the first thing that impacts upon you when first coming into contact. It DOES affect the buyer - and this limp uninspired new shit just reeks of a half assed approached to a new release. Is it a pisstake? Probably. But this whole remix thing seems so much like Al needs to come up with some quick cash and there any ol’ hack job will do - so long as the fans lap it up some!

BTW Houses Of The Mole artwork was PATHETIC!

twitch looks awesome on vinyl. and with sympathy cover r0x0rz. as for most bland one, it’s 12" singles one. though i have to agree, revco had much better covers.

yeah Houses… was a shit cover but then again it wasnt a great album. Filth Pig’ s artwork however I liked, the colours used were psychadelic and the sludged cover inlet I thought was in keeping with the albums content. Also loved the writing on the inside, it gets your attention to say the least. The Mind… though I think was their best album cover inside and out.

i’d imagine most embarass for al to sign is with sympathy, no?

I thought that if you handed Al anything from the With Sympathy-Era LP or otherwise he’d break it.

I actually don’t mind it that much - it’s sort of retro, which seems appropriate. They should change the font though, or better yet just remove the writing from it.

This “remix disc” is for die hard fans anyway, so the art is a bit moot.

Concept with the title is solid, colors are bad though. That would be my only complaint, but the music on the disc is what counts. Art enhances the packaging deal, but Ministry usually never has been an “art” band.

What dont people like about it?
I saw it… the mouth on the flag right? It’s alright, reminds me of that limited AMEN release… join or Die, is that what it’s called?
It’s not anything special… a bit, erm amateurish? but what do you want? Like i said, nothing special, but theres something I like about it.
And I liked the houses cover too… maybe I just have bad taste [pirate]
favorite min related artwork would probably be last temptation of reid. Love it!

Yeh the new album cover looks a bit on the retarded side. I wouldve gladly done the cover for Al and Ministry for free being a graphic artist and a fan, especially if it meant that kinergarten cut/and/paste shit wasnt released. I agree with Olsen also on the HOTM album, that was basically a few decent black and white pictures tinted with color, nothing inspiring. It really seems like Al just doesnt care about the depth of his work lately, maybe hes just been tired and stuff from laying off all the heroin. I think he needs to give up drinking, take up smoking weed, and move to Canada or Seattle because bands that move to the desert are always bands that move their genres to weird southern metal. NINs new album artwork bugged me too and especially what Trent said about all album art. He said something like ‘when was the last time you were ever really inspired by album artowrk?’ Well when its good Mr.Reznor, alot! Its crucial that they should always have some sort of message, wether it be cool or evil and shit. That whole having to download the “real” album art was interesting but lame cos the cd shouldve come with a little something something too. Whatever, I dont know where Im going with this anymore, I want some weed, Im going nuts over here, anyone wanna hook up a fat 17 year old living in Anaheim, California with some?. Peace. [mad][sly]

huh. yeah. considering NIN artwork it never was good… and it became colored blurs since the fragile release. although with teeth doesn’t look all that bad on LP release.

i’ve recently saw BSQ picture disc, now that looks fucking awesome.
